Man, they can't include a GUI anymore either because Stardock and various other gui makers would complain about a monopoly. Then they couldn't include a command line because linux would cry afoul that their OS has yet to take off due to the popularity of DOS.

And along with what fenix said, many features opera "implements" tend to stagnate after final release.

Can't you use run as admin?

-Carol Haynes (June 13, 2009, 03:55 PM)

Works fine for me on almost every occasion. I have no reason to run as an administrator which saves me a lot of headaches. Run as administrator is a great tool and for those files which arent directly executable I can use the command prompt with the "runas /user" command.

Living Room / IE to be removed from Windows 7 in EU
« Last post by Josh on June 12, 2009, 10:33 AM »
Microsoft's plan to strip out its Internet Explorer (IE) browser from Windows 7 in Europe, due for sale in the fall, is designed to force the European Commission's hand as it devises an antitrust remedy to restore fair competition in the browser market, said Jon von Tetzchner, the CEO of Norwegian browser maker Opera.

"Microsoft is trying to set the remedy itself by stripping out IE," he said in a phone interview Friday.

Opera complained to the Commission about the bundling of IE in Windows in 2007. The complaint sparked an antitrust probe that resulted in formal charges of monopoly abuse in January this year.

f0dder, any applications started under an elevated profile for one program will launch elevated in their instance. I.E., I launch cmd.exe in elevated mode and I type "mspaint". That launches MSPaint in elevated privellege mode as well.

By the way, am I the only one who doesn't find UAC all that annoying? I actually enjoy having it. While "Allow all" is definitely a no-no, I think NortonUAC is a great addon. I use this and it lets you set an "Allow always" depending on the context in which the program is executed. For example, if I launch procexp from a custom build placed on my desktop in admin mode, I will be able to allow THAT location and that version to run elevated at any time. But, if I place that same file in c:\temp, I am again prompted to confirm that I want to run it. Also, if the file hash changes, I am then re-prompted for elevated rights again

He is one of the many. There used to be a guy named httpd.confused on BN, however, he was driven off by the admins which remove posts based on a user complaint and not based on any actual merit. He was one of the more level headed posters and received flames for posting the truth about applications and not the "This application rocks" or "This application sucks" like everyone else. Betanews is definitely one of those sites which greatly annoys me. Fix your review system to include a moderation system before any review is posted. Half of the reviews there are flames against someone else and the rest are people doing just what DudeBoyz does. The site is quickly losing credibility.

There are two types of flames against people on BN, if you praise an app that others criticize you work for the company being praised. If you post negativity about an application, you get flamed for being a troll and you will get people trolling you and posting to other software in which you post to just to counter your review.

You know, I just swapped to NOD32 and purchased a 2 year, 2 user license for my wife and my PC's and I will not look back. ESET Nod32 4.0 is a very decent product with very powerful configuration and control options. I swear by it and it has replaced the Symantec Endpoint Protection which was provided to me for free through the US Army.

4wd, betanews.com is popular for people like that. The ones who have to state the same thing in every review for every version knowing full well the product in review will not change.

Females, typically, who talk in a manner which results in the majority of their vocabulary being "Like, whatever, yeah". I HATE THAT! It just makes you sound stupider when you have to keep saying LIKE!!!!!

But does your program really stop working after that time? Most of what I have seen is that the program stops receiving whatever the subscription gets you but it works still.

Subscription-ware is different than pay per version, I hope anyways. Subscriptions do annoy me. Paying for upgrades does not so much because you are alerted to this on most websites.

Trillian offers the subscription method which, in my opinion, is STUPID for an instant messenger program. antiviruses make sense and I think ESET got it right in that they provide a/v definitions AND program updates through their subscription.

heh. For anyone who isn't tracking, Ken and I have a very joking relationship on IRC ;-)

Anyways, Collectorz does make a nice application, but I am not entering all of this information only to submit it to collectorz and have them charge for it later. Nuts to that.

SKesselman

I fully understand that most food servers are not paid a decent wage. That is a problem which all food servers should address. It is the same a teacher or law enforcement officer or paramedic. All do a job which is worth far more than they are paid. The three latter I mentioned deserve 3 fold their current pay (Most police officers anyways, the ones who care about their job). Please understand that I do not totally object to the idea of tipping, but when it is used to make a food service employees wage livable, I do disagree with that. It should not be the customers responsibility to ensure that someone who visits me four times during a meal gets paid decently. Tipping should be in addition to not required for someone to live comfortably. I understand the difficulty that comes with the job. My brother was a waiter for about a year and explained to me the eccentricities that were involved. It is there that I feel the employee should request more. If more of these employees asked for more, they would surely not have to rely on tips to "Make ends meet".

My belief is for tipping in general. Tipping should not be an excuse for an employer to pay their employees poorly. Do you know how many times I have tipped my car detailer (Fort Meade Auto Spa) for doing a great job? Yes, the service cost me 100 dollars, but I gladly pay them a bit more for a job well done.

Mandatory gratuity in ANY FORM. If you want me to come to your restaurant, do not charge me a fee that goes to the waiter/waitress. If I want to tip them, read "If they deserve it", they will get one from me. I should not have to tell the waiter/waitress/manager that I want the fee removed. Gratuity is just that, GRATUITY. It is not mandatory and I hate places which add this at certain given occasions.

I never did understand the idea anyway, paying someone to do their job they are being paid to do anyways. I do tip, but mandatory tips disgust me!

This is a poorly written post, I realize that, I just had to run inside and add it before I forgot. Now, back to cutting down the ugly trees in our back yard.
