Living Room / Re: Movies you've seen lately
« Last post by tomos on March 07, 2017, 04:48 AM »
^ I really enjoyed Arrival, but yeah, had forgotten about it since :D
(But that's the way with almost all movies I watch...)

I think the main problem is / was expectations -- it wasn't what many expected from that 'type' of film

@IainB
well, me, I found the post more sad than funny. Unfortunately there's a lot more intelligent pedophiles travelling successfully for the more or less the same reasons. But yeah, I get the irony of it too -- but that's all beside the point.

You didn't address the main point made:
the idea is dc be family-friendly, and free of religion and politics, directly or indirectly. Which doesn't seem very complicated to me, and you choose to ignore it in what seems like a pointed manner at times. Which brought me to the thesis in my previous post. Which you also chose to ignore.

Re the offensive post in question:
I think @IainB thinks he has to test us on occasion -- not often, yet regularly. Who knows what might happen to us otherwise?
We may turn into naive innocents in our cocooned family-friendly donationcoder world, protected from religion and politics and related.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: CHS not copying text from column of cells
« Last post by tomos on February 22, 2017, 10:43 AM »
^ yes, capture was set to 9999 bytes

So,
it seems the two examples I gave are completely unrelated.

In InfoQube (IQ) sometime it works and sometimes not.
Here's an example that repeatedly wont work (i.e. goes to clipboard, but not to CHS)

Code: Text [Select]
  1. I’m torn between making these lists totally separate from the book -- or having them related to the book (i.e. with page numbers).
  2. Maybe initially I will make them completely separate (?)
  3. List Elevations
EDIT// the initial tab character gets stripped out there //EDIT

Here's how the text looks in IQ:

Screenshot - 2017-02-22 , 17_32_54.png

here's how it looks in Evernote (old 2.2.1.xxx version) and
in text editor

Screenshot - 2017-02-22 , 17_38_42.png

# what is interesting is that CHS doesnt recognise the text either when I try to copy it from Evernote !
# I thought it might be something to do with the first entry being indented more than the second -- so tried other examples like that directly from IQ, but they worked.

One thing you could test to see if the copy is resulting in TEXT on the clipboard is do the copy as you are doing it and then try to PASTE it into notepad or another text editor.  See what shows up when you try to paste into a text editor.

here's one example:
this column just had text, well numbers, with no formatting -- but with a little over 3,000 entries

Code: Text [Select]
  1. 2016-11-00 snpsht
  2. 268
  3. 269
  4. 270
  5. 271
  6. 272
  7. 273
  8. 274
  9. 44
  10. 275
  11. 276
  12. 277
  13. 278
  14. 279
  15. 280
  16. 281
  17. 282
  18. 283
  19. 182
  20. 183
  21. 184
  22. 284
  23. 285
  24. 286
  25. 287
  26. 288
  27. 289

it copies and pastes fine, just doesnt show up in CHS --
but in fairness, do we want lists with 3,000+ entries clogging up CHS?

So that wasnt the problem for me:
I posted because of the problem with the list of 20 entries, which I thought was related -- let me look at that in a bit more detail next post.

Just guessing: The list of columns is an object, not text or rtf?

not sure what you mean by 'list of columns' Ath, do you mean the selected column I copied?

Also lost by the object reference: can a column be an object? (note I'm a fairly basic spreadsheet user)
FWIW, in my example,
the selected column in each case contained text, often with cell shading/highlighting though [edit] when I think about it, there may have been conditional formatting, must check [/edit]

In the IM, it was similar situation, but not a complete column, but about 20 cells within one column. All plain text, (but not sure how it gets copied to clipboard).

Scenario:
  • select a column in a spreadsheet file by clicking on the header
  • Copy
  • The text *is* being copied to the clipboard, but it does not show anywhere in CHS

I thought this may be to do with volume of text I was copying (thousands of entries) in the spreadsheet,
but see I have the same problem copying a few entries (~20) from my IM (InfoQube)

I cant image it might be the case, but is there a setting somehow related to this?
Or is it a bug?

CHS version 2.3.9, installed version
Windows 7 x64

By the way ... the position co-ordinates data is probably:

@IainB,
[I believe] @ArizonaHot has not offered to share exact location, would it not be fair to ask before posting estimated location?

Dude, the exe is not on the server.....Could you re upload??? or tell how convert your ahk to exe? Thanks in advance

This how to run the AHK file:

You need to install AHK (AutoHotKey). The install version is here (I'm using a portable version myself):
https://www.autohotkey.com/download/

Then run the *.AHK file. Should show in the systray.

PS I not sure how to complile it -- have a search -- probably using AHK.exe as well

^ those are pretty cool features,
but like I was saying to Miles (or trying to), it would be more efficient to simply manually edit a word processor file, pasting/typing OG text on one side, and commentary on the other. My aim is to produce a file in the end that would read like a book.

The description for RE says it works on Windows 7. Did you try it on Windows XP?
-flowergardener (February 14, 2017, 05:03 PM)

I kind of doubt it would also work on XP (if designed for Win 7 upwards)
Did you see mouser's post?

is it running but not showing in tray, or not running at all?

What do you need in your editor pane?  i.e. what kind of formatting, or just plain text?

Plain is fine. Formatting would be a bonus -- but not at all necessary.

^ I'm grateful for all suggestions -- but was a bit brutal in my rejection there :-[

Wonder what translators use, must have a look in that direction..
EDIT: another one it's difficult to search for -- I get software that translates.

After a quick search I did not see any editor that associates comments with files and sync scrolls or whatnot.  But I did see in Vim you can sync scroll split screen with a file in each window.  If you come up with some way of opening both files in split mode via the command line perhaps you can come up with a scheme to derive the comment filename from the source filename and semi automate it.

This page gives an intro to sync scroll commands using Vim:
http://stackoverflow...the-same-time-in-vim
thanks Miles:
I'd probably look at a page layout programme before I'd go that route --
in a layout programme you can get the text to flow from page 1 to 3 to 5 and use the pages between for commentary.
Or simply going the manual page-break route in a regular word processor would be more manageable.

Is it necessary that it have a contiguous page?

For what I have in mind, yes, I would need the full page.
If you have other suggestions though, throw them out there.

I could always do it manually: page-break; blank page for commentary; page-break; etc.
Just thought something like this would exist, but maybe not.

Another option might be some layout programme: but they generally have a steep learning curve...
