The reason I didn't purchase it myself is that sometimes I am really cheap in a not so logical way... the license offered was for 2 (two) computers, but I only have one computer, so what if your offer is fine?, I don't have two computers!
 :-[

In the end I used the discount code we have here at DC (for 1 computer), and added it to the discount code that Bits du Jour is offering (for 1 computer), and saved myself a few cent. A mighty fine deal...

Yeah, it's cheap, but not quite in the way I would want it to be cheap...

The Sanwhole Vole Explorer is being offered with a lifetime license for free at Bits du Jour's.
http://www.bitsdujou...n-profession-edition

It is being updated so frequently that you would think he is bound to someday make it a well working program:

2) Vole Explorer does not support Unicode, only old Latin.
3) It could not preview any of my pdf files, not even one.

-but as I said, it's being updated so frequently; someday...

EXTRA:

You must install/register the software while the promotion is active, and cannot do so afterwards. Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for the lifetime of the product.

Yes, >the studio version< is even better, but I really like this outdoor live version from a balcony with snow.

Here we also have a XYLOPHONE (just how often do you have the chance to type a word beginning with x ? No, Real Life is that the xylophone was invented & named to give meaning to the letter x !) a double bass, freezing fingers, and a broken string!

Since the source is available I'm intrigued to see what it is that makes it not work on Win7, and whether it can be done.

One major problem is that MP3ext also should give icons to the various audio files:

It worked okay with 32-bits Win Vista, but not with 64-bits Win 7.

-this was back then, but
the new situation is like this:

Dear Curt!

Linkman has been updated.

After Linkman 8.90 with major feature updates, version 8.91 is mainly a bugfix and compatibility update. Support for Firefox 26, Opera 19, Chrome 32, and SeaMonkey 2.23 has been added. Path sort will now also sort folders by name.

Several bugs have been fixed. Send to from explorer accepts now also folders, there is no more slow-downs when adding bookmarks from Firefox when Thunderbird is present, the user defined browser settings will accept now all browsers.

Attention Windows 8.1 + Internet Explorer 11 users!
We have placed instructions on our website how to get the Linkman IE Toolbar working on your system again: http://www.outertech...en/favorites-manager

General Software Discussion / Re: In search of ... reasonable backup software
« Last post by Curt on December 31, 2013, 07:11 AM »
My Win 7 is unable to backup at all. A handful of years ago I deleted the wrong file, or something, end ever since Windows has refused to create a backup. But for the following reason, I don't care!:

I backup every document 1:1 twice, to two external USB drives. USB drives are so cheap, I see no reason to compress data. I believe compression is merely yet another weak point, and backup space is so cheap, you will almost have to be cheap yourself, not to use 1:1, even twice!

I don't care too much if the operating system is backed, it can easily be re-installed (and repaired at the same time!). But this is probably because I already have purchased a Win 8 disc.

In my opinion it is not too important what software you are using, but what the risks are.

to my limited knowledge no text editor can do that,
but any rich text editor can do it.

In SoftMaker TextMaker 2012 it is called (mark/select text) > Format > Paragraph > Shading > Background > (select colour)
-but no batch that I know of; you will have to do it manually.

I'll take this as evidence Linkman still is being more or less maintained.
Curt, "more or less"??  In my experience, Linkman is constantly being maintained.

you're right, criticizing my wording, 'Diva'. At first I wrote "evidence Linkman still is being maintained", but then I realized I would be in trouble, if it wasn't. So to protect myself I added "more or less", without caring that this too would sound wrong, if it is maintained. Since the arrival of my license key, I have never received any kind of informations from Outertech, so I didn't think too hard...

On Outertech's homepage for Linkman the latest version is 8.9, (has of course "now" been updated), but on Bits du Jour (BdJ)'s homepage you can right now get version 8.91 ("‎26. ‎december ‎2013 22:09:07"). I'll take this as evidence Linkman still is being more or less maintained. The reason it is available for download on BdJ is that it soon will be offered with a discount, 62% off, making it $14.99 instead of $39.

@Innuendo and other dBpoweramp users:

The phrase "All payments are one off, there is no subscription or recurring payments" made me at first think the license had to be a so-called lifetime key. But then I noticed an upgrade-offer, and was confused. I think I have read that dBpoweramp was first released in 1999 - but fourteen years later they are now at version fourteen! Was it a major upgrade per year? Please tell what it takes in Real Life money to keep it updated.

You are a frustrated Directory Opus user who has been fed too much bloat for too much money for too many years?

I find the quoted advertisement to be both rude and accurate. Just one reason why I don't use Directory Opus instead of Explorer is because, DOpus doesn't offer any feature that I would need, that my amplified Explorer doesn't. I have a lifetime key for XYplorer, and a key for DOpus version 10, (I don't have any the two programs installed), and now you tell me that my expensive DOpus already is about to be obsolete?! I am not a professional, and have not yet figured out how to use the DOpus that I have, so I will not be upgrading.

Just like "you" I will like to see DonL visiting our forum some more, but at least he is active, and normally he is not this rude. I don't remember anyone from gpsoft ever visiting us. Do you?

I am not English, but even I can see, this is wrong:

dBpoweramp integrates it's self with Windows Explorer

---------

What I really wanted to complaint about is the absence of the promised "Popup info tips"
-which also is where the quotation above came from:

dBpoweramp integrates it's self with Windows Explorer:

• Popup Info Tips hold the mouse over a supported audio file and dBpoweramp displays details:

I assume MP3 should be supported?
In real life the popup is still as it used to be:

« Last post by Curt on December 20, 2013, 06:04 PM »
I really miss both mp3info and mp3ext, but they won't do their job on my 64-bits Win 7 Home Premium, because neither has been updated for 8 respective 10 years! Explorer can tell the bit rate, so the information that I miss the most is the sampling frequency. What do you use, in order to get easy informations from your mp3 files?

 :tellme:

I only need informations about MP3 files.

It was my impression that Ad Muncher died and not has been updated for 1½ year, but I cannot be sure. Have they secretly been too busy maintaining, to keep any kind of history up to date? Or is the Ad Muncher concept so "timeless", that they don't need updating?

Found Deals and Discounts / again: lifetime key for Outpost Security Suite Pro
« Last post by Curt on December 20, 2013, 10:41 AM »
Some years ago I made the so far best software deal of my life, when I purchased a lifetime key for Outpost Security Suite Pro. The offer was only available for a weekend or so, so only a few people responded in time. Later on many has envied "us", because the pro version of the suite has grown to be acknowledged as one of the  best security suites at all. For several years Agnitum has offered lifetime keys for their firewall, but since that aforementioned weekend not for the suite - until now: Agnitum has had a change of mind and a new motto: "Pay once and stay protected for life", so this Christmas Agnitum is both launching version 9 AND once again offering lifetime licenses for their top-of-the-line suite!

Unfortunately it is not crystal clear if this is a seasoned offer or a new, fixed policy.  :(

Our big news this holiday season is the official launch of the brand new Outpost 9 product line. Outpost Security Suite Pro, Outpost Firewall Pro and Outpost Antivirus Pro 9.0 are now available on Agnitum’s website.

True to the Agnitum promise of "pay once and get protected for life", we’re happy to announce a very special Christmas offer for Outpost Security Suite Pro. A lifetime license for Outpost Security Suite, with unlimited antivirus updates and product upgrades, is now available for only $59.95.

Obviously I sometimes read without reading. Sorry, tomos!

A few years back we briefly talked about a program that among other features could offer to perform a number of processes automatically - like resizing any picture arriving a certain folder. I think that particular feature only included a (one) folder - and you need more folders - but hey, time has passed, and maybe it has been further developed - or of course not developed at all, I don't know, because I don't recall what program it was - but I think it had to do with photo editing.

But of course it would be better to have a tiny, targeted application from skwire, than a fat multithisandthatprogram for a single feature.
