One caveat though. This has to be done before the song is shared.

Is this something similar to how Linux applies its updates without needing a reboot?

Is something anyone which knows how to click the right button of their mouse, select "Properties", "Advanced" and change the music genre of the file can do. So, yes, an obvious and HUGE DRM hole. Which would be fixed by the next firmware, anyway, unless Microsoft wants to fight the RIAA and all the pack (they would get all my support).

Whoa, DivX buying other codec makers and licensing their technology to bigger companies. My, my, how things have changed in a few years. </offtopic>

Well... humans have free will so... it's both things.

Wasn't the limit 4 GB?

Forget about it, I just checked the WinRAR helpfile, and it's 2 GB. You can always use the Zip64 extension, though.

Now what is this Wordzilla search tweak(s) you are speaking of?  I could use a tool or two to help with searching here...

Wordy, you up to the task of competing against all those companies writing desktop search apps? ;D

ZillaRank, Wordzilla's highly improved version of SMF search functions ;)

Hey, I missed this one. So it would be:

  • foobar2000
  • Miranda (up to some point)
  • Opera
  • TED Notepad
  • xplorer²

And the usual security software coupled with FARR to launch everything. Zaine, how things changed since your first post, huh? ;D

It's the Darwin-edited newsletter effect :)

Yes, it's in the installation instructions. Linux and Mac OS X users don't need it. I assume it does not have a native port for Windows, and the image must bundle a Linux distro with only the essential to run the program. Besides, the installation packages for those OSs are far smaller. Yeah, I know about the differences between OSs, but...

On the other hand, it seems only 3 distros are supported.

Ah, since I never worked with Mathematica, I can't comment :)

Yeah, R is a pretty good pack, despite being ugly at first, and it's truly replacing commercial alternatives. Just experienced that this year at college, they didn't have enough money for SPSS licenses, so they moved to R.

And the WGA now plays quite more nice than before, like it does with XP.

Personally, I preferred the old version in which you commented an interesting thread of your choice briefly. It made the newsletter more enjoyable for me, since I check the site daily (almost) and I don't find much use in going through lists of links I already visited. Just my two cents.

Something I forgot to mention is that 141 fps in FarCry is not a big deal (unless they're running it at maximum).

I mentioned Alienware because those guys even pack two cards in SLI within a notebook. Of course, such beast should not be used for everyday work. Only for gaming ;D
1467
You run it within a browser, and inside VMware? Weird...

And how does it compare to Octave? (Yeah, there were OSS mathematical software before Sage...)

Apple and cheap in the same sentence? ;D

I can attest nontroppo's report about MacBook's trackpad, the two-finger idea is certainly sounding and neat. Unfortunately, a trackpad is still a trackpad, and still works like any other, so a Logitech mouse for me :)

Ow, what a review. First, they mistake Crysis for FarCry (I clicked on it yesterday and I swear it read "Crysis" instead of "FarCry" like today), and not a single note: "We made this mistake, bla bla bla". Fantastic.

No charts comparing those other notebooks that are slower (no Alienware notebooks tested by PC World as well), no configuration details (we tested FarCry at this resolution, with this turned on and that off)... a mess. I saw forum signatures longer than that review.

Not really

Also, it seems they used female names for familiarity and to avoid industrial espionage (Atari ST?)

Living Room / Re: How often do you reboot your primary workstation?
« Last post by Lashiec on December 09, 2007, 12:03 PM »
No, it doesn't. From time to time, the neverending discussion between plug or unplug arises. Even reputable PSU makers got in the fray, like the CTO of PC Power & Cooling, stating:

Our position is let it run. That's for voltage and temperature stabilization. Anytime you can keep the computer components at a stable temperature, it's better than expansion and contraction. That's what wears them out.

Of course, letting things work means that they'll work better each passing year, and their lifetime will improve to ad infinitum. That's why Google never buys new components for their servers. </sarcasm>

Seriously, I plugged and unplugged my old computer for more than 7 years, and still works like a charm, and it was not using a fancy PSU, more the opposite. It's your own choice, the quality of modern components is high enough for them to be replaced before they actually fail.

EDIT: Some rephrasing

I think there's some kind of component for wikis to avoid this, Wikipedia rarely gets hit with those kind of spam robots, only by 'tards with too much free time in their hands >:(
