If you get 'toolbar buttons' addon you will have a button for new tab as well as many more for functions.
The buttons will be in the 'customize' box.
I use version 0.5.0.5.
It seems the newer versions mess up my button system.

General Software Discussion / search/find software for my computer
« Last post by cmpm on October 15, 2008, 11:04 PM »
I haven't seen this here on DC.

http://www.dkellner.hu/freeware/finder/

But it's a great search and find program for your computer.
Although it also found deleted files as well.
Which I thought was worth the mention.

It seems light on resources as it indexes the files.
Must manually index.

Any other search software that stands out from the crowd?

The bad block could be in your unallocated space which TrueCrypt is or may be reading as well.

Is there a way to tell if it is reading this?
Is there an option to have TrueCrypt not read the entire drive, leaving out the standard unallocated space which is designed in part to house bad sectors.

Or if you make the unallocated space it's own partition and/or format it. TrueCrypt may ignore it. If that is where the problem is, these solutions may work.

It seems sync programs are popping up here and there quite a bit.
Unless I'm just now noticing.

http://jonathanstoolbar.blogspot.com/

A decent read.

http://synkron.sourceforge.net/

Another sync program - open source.

And another-

http://www.sugarsync.com/

Personally I like Dropbox and Syncplicity. I use both.
For their ease of use and ability to make links to share any file.
I was surprised to see it in Syncplicity, just right click any synced file or folder and you can make a web link.
Dropbox has it's 'public folder', still having to click and make the link though.

I can't think of any software that can't be obtained without spending money except for XP. Noting that PhotoShop is an exception in functions, as well as programing tools.

http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html

Is trying but I couldn't get it to work right though it would load.
See here also-

There is this site for finding things like this.
It covers more then software, it has a database that covers a lot.

hmmm yeah...

here's another manual syncer

Also I have Windows media classic as the default for all it could choose.
It's in 'view'-'options' to make it the default player.

And that playlist method will work with videos as well.
If wmc is the player for them.

It's not that hard to do.
Open wmc.
Open the folder with your music.
Click view - playlist in wmc.
Drag and drop the music files into the playlist.
Right click in the playlist box.
Click 'save as'.
Name it and it will be saved in that folder.

vlc 9.2 has them all

after the search i tried to load it to find the version number
it gave me a bunch of errors or notices regarding those files and more
but it did load after hitting 'ok' about 10 times

what site has the avi, maybe that will help

Kind of funny....
On one computer I kept a version of VLC Player.

All those files are in VLC.
Though I'm not sure what you would do with them.
Put them in system or system32 or leave them in vlc.

So download a version of vlc and see if it works.

Yes I have the Kmplayer also.
But I prefer the wmc.
I still use kmp though, occasionally.

i had to dump vlc completely and went with wmp classic.

vlc would not play a lot of songs correctly. they would be all skipping and jumbled. so until they work it out, i'll stay away, but keep an eye on it cause it does have device functions i like.

General Software Discussion / Re: Kingsoft Office
« Last post by cmpm on September 28, 2008, 10:27 AM »
My wife who works at the college here and works with these type of programs said Kingsoft works very well and it will be on my son's computer. The 07 edition.
Writing for the serial number and receiving it, happened within 24 hrs. With no problems at all installing and running the program for her. No ads or hindrances at all. Compatible with ms.

So I know David will be unreachable soon but it works here.

Uninstall them both then reinstall after a boot.

You can get the drivers and software from the sites of the companies.

With the drivers and software uninstalled, they should be running with standard issue windows drivers.

I just picked up on this-

Using Gmail just got easier (FF only)

If you're a Gmail user, the Google Toolbar can set Gmail as your default email program. Once you've done this, clicking on an email link will automatically open a Gmail Compose page. Learn more

http://www.google.co...5/intl/en/index.html

The FF users of google toolbar have been using version 3 and now there is a beta 5 for FF. There is a version 5 for IE7.

I haven't tried it yet, having just found out. I'd not like it if it screwed my settings up. Might give it a whirl tomorrow.

« Last post by cmpm on September 26, 2008, 08:58 AM »
Windows problem is they will not put good picture or movie programs in their operating system.

While you can buy a mac and have about everything you need for anything in the OS. Windows remains featureless. Or the same features with a different look.

So you have to get programs that do things, rather then already having them built in, which is inherently faster.

Well I play chess with my brothers and we communicate with the text message part of it.
When we want to we will fire up yahoo.
But it takes a lot of resources, much more then Skype, which I have one friend on and my household.
My wife's sisters are computer challenged :) so it don't matter what is used, it's complicated.

You could try switching to basic gmail.
It's faster then the latest with all the bells and whistles.

You get the same info, it's just plain.
