thanks for the link, Paul. there was more to the whale than i thought.

Mody Dick does look related - adds another dimension to the failure part.

hmm, still can't watch it. why on earth have they blocked it for certain regions. i'm sure i can handle the horrible truth - it won't send me over the edge, i promise.

thanks for that. the browsing doesn't look too bad.

now i just need to decide if it might be better to get a netbook, which ought to be better for what i want but the monthly fee is more and you have less monthly allowance - G1 on t-mobile is 'unlimited' usage, unlike other mobile broadband offers.

Living Room / Android phone - anyone using it?
« Last post by nudone on March 22, 2009, 04:50 PM »
i'm looking at the Android phone thingy. might sign-up for one. question is, is it any good mobile browsing, i don't really care about the rest of it - i won't be watching videos, playing music or even using it like a typical phone. just browsing.

maybe the questions is, is the android thing better than the ipone for the internet? i like the idea of a real keyboard for email so the iphone gets thrown in the bin straight away on that one.

anyway, anyone know what they are talking about regarding the gadget (cos i certainly don't).

foxit reader has bookmarks - works depending on the pdf file, if it's protected or not (i think). if so, i bet there's a tool that unprotects pdf files.

you forgot to mention the little spiders you've trained to walk across the notes - and then smash them to a pulp by the looks of it.

my own quantum computer did all that in the video 50 times over in less time - so fast, in fact, it finished before i had even started the whole process with the batch command.

« Last post by nudone on March 05, 2009, 01:25 PM »
Preacher was more fun to read than Watchmen.

Sandman lost its way through the middle.

Dr. Manhattan is the best superhero evaaar.

We3 has more heart than any of the above.

i like Daniel Clowes and Dave Cooper. some of their stuff is a bit weak though.

just finished reading Watchmen again; in preparation for the new film. the ending seemed less disappointing this time around.

It's become tradition on my computer to use both images for my dual monitor wallpapers every Halloween season.

Thanks nudone for the great images!

very good. i'm glad they are still of use. hopefully one day i'll get around to doing some more.

i agree, the first two are amazing.

this is driving me around the bend. i'm i'm assuming it's a simple solution.

i've got XAMPP running a virtual host site on my PC (so i can test things with the site).

so, as it's a 'virtual host' i can access this site with something like "http://www.madeupname.com" from my PC.

this bit all works perfectly fine.

the problem is, how to access this same virtual host site from inside VMWare?

i can access NON virtual host sites that XAMPP is running, i.e. i can access anything in the 'htdocs' folder of XAMPP when accessing it from within VMWare using http://192.168.0.1

i just don't seem to be able to figure out how to access the virtual hosts XAMPP is running - i thought i'd just be able to do something like "http://192.168.0.1/www.madeupname.com"

can't find any explanation online but then i ain't got a clue if i'm trying to do something that's not possible - seems like a simple enough thing to expect to work to me though.

any help, please?

that is part of the problem. on the video it appears that he doesn't bother to look right until he's on the lines with the train a few feet away.

ps.

here's the avira warning i get when visiting the page that the video is on...

BTW, is people really so late for work to risk their lives in front of a train?

could be wrong but i think these people don't even understand that the barrier is there for their own safety, i.e. idiots that missed that crucial bit of safety imformation because they were too busy avoiding school, etc.

they just assume it's there for decoration. surely, if they knew a train was about to pass by they'd not be attempting to cross the tracks. i don't know, maybe they are all on drugs or drunk - probably both if they are typical naughty UK teenagers.

or maybe they are just morons of the highest order.

The Getting Organized Experiment of 2007 / Re: New Getting Organized Experiment?
« Last post by nudone on February 12, 2009, 05:01 AM »
i propose we try the "works for 2 months system". this consists of defining a set of rules, doesn't really matter what they are, and then you carry them out.

it'll work just as well as any other system that's out there, i.e. it'll work whilst you are engaged and believe in it, then after about 2 months you'll find it less and less effective, eventually you'll abandon it and declare that the system just isn't good enough.

at this point the "works for 2 months system" goes to its next stage. this is where you completely reinvent the system's rules. the process starts all over again - it works for 2 months whilst you feel enthusiastic and believe in the new rule set.

caveats:
  • you have to believe it's the "works for 2 months system" that's making you productive, NOT simply the fact that you are making an effort each day to do the "right thing".
  • you have to follow the rules of the system, well, a little. well, maybe just when you feel like it.

sorry for sounding cynical.

it also happens here quite frequently leaving the authorities at a loss of what to do..

having a large cannon at the front of the train to fire at any of the idiots obstructing the line. give the cannon a decent firing range so the train driver has a good chance of hitting these morons.

"crazy" is too nice a word. i think "retarded" would be more appropriate. i'm british, i wish i wasn't when i see this kind of behaviour.

ps. the website above was caught by my avira antvir immediately on opening the page - it blocked some .swf thing.

i've just been playing about with "Screen2Exe" for a few minutes and it works well for a free util. here's the link...

http://www.screen-re...d.com/screen2exe.htm

screen2exe.jpg
seems quite straightforward to set up the area you want to record, all the options are self-explanatory. it can include audio and there are several ways of editing and adding to the recording, e.g. blur parts out, add captions, add images, discard repeat frames, etc.

final output is at it says on the tin - to an exe file. so anyone can watch it back. not something you'll use for putting on a web page but probably the perfect FREE tool for when you need to send the movie to someone.

i wonder if the output files can be converted to something youtube can show.

(i was going to post this somewhere in the old screencast threads but i thought as they are so old i'll just make a new topic.)
