As it turns out, Java lets you do stupid stuff like this.

https://searchcode.c...28%22windows+9%22%29
That's not Java to blame, just stupid/sloppy/lazy programming, and people tend to repeat their mistakes :-\

I'll just post my own 2222th message, though it's not particularly spectacular, imho:

I kinda expected an easter egg to be displayed for this (pretty) number by the forumsoftware, but it didn't :-[

General Software Discussion / Re: Linux bash exploit discovered
« Last post by Ath on September 26, 2014, 12:05 PM »
env x='() { :;}; echo vulnerable' bash -c "echo this is a test"

That's the simple test, but this one still shows the date/time of execution after patch 1 is applied:
rm -f echo && env -i  X='() { (a)=>\' bash -c 'echo date'; cat echo
After applying the second patch it should just do nothing, afaik.
Oh, run it in an empty directory, just to be safe, it will delete, and can create, a file called echo

Use DropBox on both ends, Android and Windows.

Who really does read software licenses?  I don't.  I ain't got time for that.   :P
Ah, and you're also signing blank checks to everybody you have to pay? :o

Please explain what you want to achieve, not how you _think_ you could do it.

Drop that "Conexión de red inalámbrica" in http://translate.google.com and it says "Wireless Network" (Autodetect:Spanish to English)

PBOL / Re: Requests: count workdays only and show workdays remaining
« Last post by Ath on September 22, 2014, 06:00 AM »
Another fine-tuning request:

The predefined choices do not cater for the 'Last day of current month' (or 'first day of next month') selection, giving a wrong impression of the remaining time in this month's gauge.
1436
It's sort of a no-brainer really.
In several magazine-comparisons of commercial and free contenders over the last couple of years, MSE seems to be quite a no-brainer, indeed..., in this case meaning 'without a proper brain' :o
Hitrate of MSE being 70-75% where the other free solutions all catch 90-95% of stuff to catch. And even the best paid solutions only catch 95-98%, and the worst commercial ones catch well below these free solutions.

Forgot to mention earlier that I used AVG before switching to Avast, but ditched it when it took too much resources from the PC. Boot-time went down from ~5 minutes to ~60 seconds on older WinXP PC's after removing AVG, and up to ~90 seconds after adding Avast :tellme:
These resources issues seem to be resolved with the current AVG versions, but I still have to re-evaluate AVG.
1437
AVG, Avast or Avira should do fine. Have only used Avast on a regular basis but I've read good reviews of all three.

Avira used to have auto-update issues when behind a proxy (like I am connected most of the time), but haven't re-tested that lately.
AVG has had some security issues (with their forum, IIRC) in the recent years, that's why I didn't bother to switch, but they are my next candidate :)
Avast I've seen some app-update issues in their latest release that I didn't get around to investigate thoroughly yet.

General Software Discussion / Re: color wax 3d printer
« Last post by Ath on September 14, 2014, 02:49 AM »
Don't think that 3D printing technology is mature enough yet to support wax. Current mainstream models support ABS and PLA, and some models only one of these materials.

Only 'advantage' of wax could be that the material is re-usable, but how to revert an object into threads of the correct constant thickness  :tellme:

If you could consider making it as a widget please
There is already a quite usable version of that: Countdown widget
but probably there's a market for a different one :D

Maybe the display misbehavior is related to this checkbox: (mine is in default setting)

Suggestions and requests for projects are also welcome

Did anyone already create an Android (or other mobile OS) version of PBOL ? Because I'm opting for that... just to finally get an Android app done :-[ ;D

It depends, based on resolution vs. screensize...

Also..I suck BADLY with Regex lol
There's a fix for that, reported here, in our DC forum

You can use a webbrowser control to fetch the page, then check its content with a regex.
