i've just found another version in my spam folder - appears to be from the future - the plot thickens.

oh...
>_<

how's this?
 (see attachment in previous post)
ah, that's much better. i'm glad you found the undoctored version of the photo.

whatever happens. i think Paul Keith should be leading it. no one else on the forum has shown as much interest in the GOE (at least, not recently).

but, Paul, if you do lead it, you must do shorter posts - maybe more of them, just shorter. the long ones even frighten me away and i'm used to such things.

also, you could well be the perfect choice. you say you are disorganised - you should be the one that solves the riddle to that. show us the way. i'm waiting for you to start the march.

looks like they beat me to it - "expo 2005".

marvellous, Cody will be glad to know his antics are appreciated.

i think i'll have to nominate p3lb0x's avatar too - but then i may be biased on that one.

mrainey, your new avatar now looks remarkably like this photo of Jean-Luc Picard i found.

thanks for the replies. i think i'm going to wait for a while - either until i decide it's something i must own or until the G1 is updated. now i've looked at a few reviews it sounds good but missing a few features.
1433
Edit: It's also going to be long. Longer than any post I've written in this forum. That's why I'm asking you if you really want to read something like it.
hmm, if it's going to be the longest post you've done then it's not worth it. sorry to say that, nothing personal, of course. i'm just interested in the novel approaches people may have; if it requires having to understand a complex set of operations then i won't be interested. if you've any unusual little methods that are unique then they are probably worth revealing.

i'm interested in the fun parts, the game parts, the daft parts. but only if it's brief.
1434
i'm more interested to hear about your system, Paul. or habit or method or whatever you find works.

right, i've just looked through 99 pages of forum member's avatars.

here are my nominations (excluding any that may have already been mentioned in this thread):

i may post a few others but maybe it's just best to stick to all time favourites.

i've just given PTFB a quick go - doesn't appear to work on my system (vista).

PhilB66 mentioned ClickOFF in this thread recently: https://www.donation....msg156967#msg156967

it works perfectly on my system (yep, vista).

i used to suffer from "repetitive dialogue stress" (or whatever you want to call it). but jgpaiva came to my assistance and saved my sanity with "DialogMove". https://www.donation...61.msg24183#msg24183

this app will move any small dialog window to your cursor position - this means they become almost invisible, at least, nowhere near as intrusive as normal dialogs. i find it the perfect solution because:

1) the dialog still appears - so you have the choice of clicking on the dialog button you need - something you can't do if you use an autoclicker util.

2) you don't have to move your mouse cursor - so you aren't disturbed, having to move back and forth across the screen just to close a dialog window (or if DialogMove doesn't put the dialog exactly under the cursor how you want you only have to move the cursor an inch or two).

i'd say, without doubt, it's the app that has saved my sanity more than anything else. whenever i have to use someone else's computer that doesn't use DialogMove, i feel i've gone back to the dark ages - it's like using a retarded machine.

i've found that the best settings for the 'Rules' of DialogMove are.

(Width < 500 AND Height < 400) OR (Width < 1920 AND Height < 200)

note: the figure "1920" should be changed to your screen width.

you can  also train it to ignore some windows you do or don't want moving.

you know, i think i will make a screencast for DialogMove because i think most people just don't understand it. it's one of these things that should be included with windows 7 - that's how obvious and natural it is when you use it. well, it should be part of all operating systems.

Would it be irony that the code name for Instant Boss was originally "The Whip"?

now that is a cool name.
1439
perfect. i'll meet you there, cranioscopical. you'll recognise me by the gimp mask and bow tie.

excellent. i think that is exactly where i've been going wrong. can anyone recommend a good dungeon in the Derbyshire, UK area?

if anyone still listens: i don't believe in any of the 'systems' now. i don't believe in 'discipline'. don't believe in 'self-motivation'.

i may have discussed this with mouser a long time ago, maybe on the forum, can't remember now: but i think a lot of the people striving to become more in 'control' are actually depressed - maybe a lot, maybe a little.

from personal experience, it just seems it's sometimes difficult to spot whether you are just looking for a better 'system', or are totally overwhelmed by what you 'feel' you need to do. anyone falling into the 'depressed' category is searching for that panacea, that super GOE like system that will change their life. it won't. maybe it will for a short period - just like any novelty change to one's lifestyle will work for a month or two.

if you are moderately on top of your situation and work load you can mix and match 'systems' to your hearts content. have fun with them, compare them, pretend that one is better than another.

if you find that no system will work for you (i really believe they are all the same) you probably need to ask yourself if your inability to get things done is an indication you have more serious troubles to resolve, i.e. you're depressed/stressed.

i'm now going to shut up because i'll start talking (even more) rubbish.

bottom line: all these systems are games to be played. games are difficult to play when you feel genuinely overwhelmed by the workload in front of you (or the problems that seem outside of your power to control).
1442
and i empathise with you too, Darwin. well, with everyone that has to work with someone they hate - which i assume is the majority.

i can't remember what Paul Keith's avatar looks like (i shall do a search in a minute). isn't there a quick/easy way to display the avatars in this thread - it's going to be difficult know what they all are if we get a few nominated.

mwb1100, not sure which film you are thinking of. the avatar is something i put together in photoshop:

stock photo hat.
stock photo body.
photograph i took of a Ram's skull.
cody added himself.

there is a Gilliam film, Time Bandits, that has the Minotaur in it. i think that might have a similar looking head. can't really remember. maybe Jabberwocky, probably could be a few.

my old boss was like a psychotic version of David Brent (Ricky Gervais) from the Office (BBC tv comedy). if he was just like David Brent i could have tolerated his idiocy and annoying habits, but he wasn't that harmless.

to say we were all working in an office kind of environment (computer/network technicians in a school), he liked to behave like we were all on a building site, i.e. he thought he had to act 'hard' in front of everyone.

i had a bit of a bustup with him. i know i can act like an arse but i wasn't doing on that occasion - he was completely out of order, he tried to throw his weight around. anyway, he was the boss, it was his domain, nothing i could do except pretend nothing had happened - yet again. so i just decided i'd leave the job instead, which i did after a few weeks had passed.

everyone hated him. staff above him, staff below him. unfortunately, he doesn't have any real friends so no one has ever taken him asside and told him what a total prick he is. i wasn't the first person to walk out of the job (two more before me). the bloke that replaced me made a formal complaint about him - but then let it drop.

so, in the video, the boundaries are blurred. i just wish i had smashed an old CRT monitor over his head, i'm just too nice a guy though.
1446
hmm, when i first watched that i empathised with the bloke jumping over the table, but now i think about it, i was probably more like the one getting hit by a keyboard.
1447
i sometimes forget just how much i hated my old job. well, not the job so much - just one of the people that worked there.

this clip brought all those (un)happy memories flooding back...

note you have to stare at nudone's to appreciate it.

you also have to have gif animation enabled. some browsers may have animation turned off. but, if it's off, you wouldn't see app's avatar properly either, nor Josh's.

i've been using BurnAware - the free edition for about a year or two. seems fine, regular updates.

seems to work. Linked through http://www.hidemyass.com/

that's good. i'd tried a few other proxies with no success - i shall definitely have to hide my ass in future.
