In South Florida it is so flat that lightning often hits the ground.  During a heavy storm it sounds like an artillery barrage.  Especially downtown Miami the sound bounces off the buildings.  In fact it's almost as loud as the guys driving Ferraris with glass packs.

I've been trying to find the time to finish this post for over a week!

So I took my car down a rocky gravely road, and tested ABS -- which kicked in easily on that surface.  It wasn't particularly dramatic but i'm glad to know what it feels like so if it happens in real driving it won't startle me.

That in itself is probably the most important - takeaway for you - part of the test. Because the last thing you need in an emergency situation...is more surprises.

I also tried to get it to trigger on a regular road, but a hard stop at 35mph did not trigger it -- despite giving me whiplash and throwing baby cody from the back seat to the front seat, and so i gave up on that.

Okay, I'm going to go out on a limb here, and assume you just gave the brake petal a good stomp to effect that reaction...yes? While it is excellent for testing purposes, It is also the exact type of problem behavior I was initially eluding to when one - fortified with ABS - takes the expression "Panic Stop" a bit too literally.

The reality of it is that in "normal" driving, if you really have to suddenly clamp down on the binders ... You weren't really paying attention. Otherwise, you'd have had other accident avoidance (e.g. escape) options available. And yes, after 35+ years of street riding this is where my motorcycling elitist background tends to bleed through rather quickly. Because for most people it's "just a fender-bender", but or me it could quite easily be a fatality ... Mine! ...So I tend to take that and the whole defensive driving thing quite seriously.

Now here is the part that people seem to have difficulty grasping. We've already had much discussion about ABS being able to stop a vehicle faster ... but the problem is - from a truly holistic defensive driving stand point - that's irrelevant. Because the real reason that ABS was originally explored as an option for cars, was to resolve an issue with steering control during hard breaking. Once the wheels lock due to excessive braking the ability the steer the vehicle is completely lost. That! is the one and only reason for ABS to ever be explored as a possible safety feature in an automobile. The fact that it also happened to make the cars stop faster by properly regulating break pressure was and still is a completely accidental (pun intended) fringe benefit.

Want proof, simple ... There are 2 wheel and 4 wheel designs for automotive ABS systems. Now for the 2 wheel only systems - on a 4 wheeled vehicle - which 2 wheels get the advantage of ABS control? I'll give you a (a slight misdirect) hint. Due to weight bias under breaking, the front wheels provide 70% of a vehicles stopping power. The ABS btw... goes on the back wheels. Why??? Steering control pure and simple. This configuration is actually most common in pickup trucks which when traveling empty and having no weight in the rear, have a very bad reputation of locking the rear wheels and sliding sideways.

Faster breaking...not so much. Safer breaking, yes ... But that - in defensive driving - is not necessarily always faster breaking. You see in defensive driving, the person who stops the fastest, is frequent also the first person to get killed in (if not the cause of) a chain reaction crash. First rule of defensive driving is in an emergency...look for a soft place to land.

Motorcycles stop faster than cars do - it's simple weight ratio physics. So I have always been able to stop much quicker then the folks in the cars around me. However... If the guy behind me can't stop as quickly as I'm about to...then who's fault is it really if he just so happens to run my stupid ass the fuck over? Hm..? Not really a trick question is it? I have to maintain steering control so I can swerve to some out of the way place - so as to politely and defensively allow him to proceed to continue and finish crashing into the idiot/obstacle that I just avoided. Otherwise to be brutally honest it is quite simply my own fault that he ran over my ass.

Now sure, Florida law says that if you rear-end someone, then the accident is automatically your fault. So according to 'The law' I would be completely blameless. However in any defensive driving classes you take the term applied to this type of situation is called being "Dead Right". Yeah, sure you're "right"...but you're also dead. Pyric victory anyone?

We have a thing called Legal Aid in our state. If you're below 125% of the poverty level, they get you an attorney. For criminal charges, there's the public defender's office (not bad here actually) which often means some sort of plea deal.

   If you live in a box in the park...you're covered.

   If you live in a mansion...you're covered.

   If you fall between these two groups...(and you really need counsel)...you will either end up living in a box in the park, or going to prison.

The "poverty level" moves as needed for the benefit of those controlling the system.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that you are unaware of the fact that I designed said interface, and wrote the code for it...so a modicum of tact would be appreciated. Even if it is your wish to imply that you have some sort of insight into what I was thinking at the time of its writing.

@mouser - While I've never been a fan of installes for this type of small program, it is one of the most common requests regarding T-Clock that I received over the years. It is a kind offer, but the decision is up to WhiteTigX - I really am trying to stay the hell out of here - so as not to become a total pain in the ass - but it's the damn force of habit ... I just seem to keep gravitating back.

well... I don't really think those buttons are needed... you didn't change other stuff besides that.. "non-existing" menu items could include a dummy text.. such as "double-click to add new" or something... Or a context menu on right click...

Quick-N-Dirty compromise might just be to change the group box text from "Add Menu Item" to Add Menu Item (Double Click to Add or Edit).

Honestly as far as ListView controls go double clicking to trigger the default action has always been a rather common behavior in any application I've ever encountered. *Shrug* So after having been there for 10 years it now has 1 complaint ...... It's up to you man.

Frankly I'm surprised we don't hear more of these stories. Because all to often companies use easy/cheap/free cloud services as an excuse to either fire or just never hire IT staff that would have warned them about the dangers of assuming it was all just really that (magical) easy. Proper security and backup procedures still have to be followed. So for a backup company to lose all of their customers backups ... Because they weren't backed up properly... *Shrug* ...Sorry guys I can't really muster up a tear for that one.

@ WhiteTigX  - Make frequent backups, and do not do any testing on the development machine (use a VM) if you tackle that code. The arrays are touchy as hell, resources have to be defined within certain ranges, and anything it doesn't like will result in a missing menu/shell crash.

^That^ is half the reason that T-Clock has an exit command line option ... which didn't always save me (hence the VM recommendation).

Hm... Looks like a wrapping issue then. I just poked through the source for my old build 95 to see where/what could have happened and IIRC that string was modified at compile time to read differently on the 32 and 64 bit builds. Since I can't even figure out where I hid the changes - That's probable the issue.

There isn't that much space actually.. so I'll either have to add scrollbars, shorten the text or leave it the way it is^^
I might remove the "Redux" text as well... You really want Two_toNe there?

Without Two_toNe's code the XP theme support would not have happened on my watch. So it's only fair that he be properly mentioned.

(Space) LOL ...You don't what to know how many time I had to resize and restructure the controls for those dialogs to get everything to fit.

The line was supposed to read... Shit ... I remember now! The text in the .rc file was only a design time filler for the dialog editor. It gets replaced when compiled with the text in the tclock.h file (relevant code is below).

For x64:

My intention was to acknowledge the removal of Win 9x support - it had to go to get the x64 code to compile - and the addition of some touchups to smooth out Vista & 7 operation.

If you have to shorten it that's fine, the permissions reduction doesn't really stand out much these days (it's kind of required/assumed). So just cut me back to the x64 XP/Vista/7 and x86 Vista/7 compatibility, and save the rest of the space for own updates.

How about the Stoic Joker icon btw Is it ok? I personally like the darken color.. but it's your Logo after all..

Sorry, I forgot to mention that earlier...it does look rather nice. Seriously, I might save a copy to use later if it's ok with you. TBH I actually received a few complaints about the old one being ugly as hell.

But at this point I think that spot would be better served with a copy of that White Tiger logo you have on the GitHub page.

Best thing that can happen is you end up with a movie of a bunch of guys running off with your stuff. While the cops will use the footage to hassle a bunch of people ...(see Clown Laugh Video Above)... You will never see any of your shit ever again.

Worst thing that can happen is the neighbors house gets broken into and the cops want your footage. So they seize you video equipment and other data storage devices (e.g. you computer), they f*** it up royally which isn't really an issue because they never give it back anyway. And then they arrest you for something they find on the hard drive ... That they felt was questionable.

@wraith & 40 - Okay, so if you two agree that that ain't Latin ... I'm inclined to put my money (so to speak) on that ain't Latin. Because left to my own devices...I've not a friggin clue.

But... If one follows Ren's link up the rabbit's asshole for a bit they run across this Reddit discussion regarding the viability of basically hacking/gaming Googles translation service. In support of the theory, one poster gives this link that appears to show the translation is valid.

So it appears that this could spiral for a bit if the message was perceived as perhaps being based on a popular misconception. Or are there dialects - for lack of a better term - of Latin that may/could apply?

Just tried Bing translate, and it auto-detected the language as Romainian and translated it as: im with the nsa and uti
