General Software Discussion / Re: SQLNotes...what is it exactly?
« Last post by Armando on February 19, 2008, 01:02 PM »
Glad this is the way you're thinking!

Could I maybe try reinstalling an older daily build from version 0.9.21 and see if the HTML export works (without the export window, of course -- I don't think that I ever saw that previous builds)? It did work in the past.

OK, I tried that, and the html export works with version 0.9.21 of SQLNote -- downloaded on 11 jan 2008. Even the export window was there (I didn't remember seeing it before...).

BUT... I reinstalled v 0.9.22 and it still doesn't work.

Could it be registry related ???

also just thinking it probably would be difficult for a filter pane to pick up on the subtleties of a search like that  :-\
THIS and (THAT-where-OTHER-is-selected)

Exactly, but it's probably feasible. (I just hope that the "simple" filter entry zone will also remain available if such a GUI solution is going to be created)

This is a real mystery. WHY doesn't it work for me? Is the HTML export (export to a web page) depending on some external component (that would be absent/damaged)?

Could I maybe try reinstalling an older daily build from version 0.9.21 and see if the HTML export works (without the export window, of course -- I don't think that I ever saw that previous builds)? It did work in the past.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Locate 3.0 - great *FAST* HD search tool!
« Last post by Armando on February 19, 2008, 10:05 AM »
You can't even compare the two coz IIRC Locate doesn't index content.

My wishlist for Locate (which IMO, would make it the best file search tool on the planet):
  • Realtime indexing - very low on resource consumption, better (perfect) results, no CPU spikes as with scheduled indexing.
  • Thumbnail mode for graphic files (would give it an outright advantage over other FS tools that do realtime indexing, none that I know of have this implemented)
  • Panes for listing recently added/changed & recently launched files (like with Ava Find)
  • Popup window showing files being added/modified (like in Filetracer)

Nice list nosh. That would indeed be cool. (as options, of course)

I want to show "Projects" and ONLY files that have a "ChangeRequest" that arent "Changed"
So,
"Projects" and files ("file" ticked) where "ChangeRequest" is ticked AND "Changed" is not ticked

I'm REALLY not an expert. But if I understand what you want, this should work :

projects AND files AND changerequest AND changed is null

meaning : show me the items which have something in the fields "projects", "files" and "changerequests", but nothing in the the field "changed".

You could also add "is not null" to each field -- except "changed" -- but it's not necessary. I would be like that :

projects is not null AND files is not null AND changerequest is not null AND changed is null

(Check the orthography for the fields though as I just recopied the fields names from your post and I don't know exactly if I'm accurate)

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling SQLNotes again, cleaning up the folder etc. but the "export to a web page" feature still doesn't work, and I tried with different databases (even the sample one).

The weirdest thing is that I don't even see a thing : no "export form" whatsoever, no error message. I also did a  search on C (system partition) and E  (document partition) and didn't find any newly created  html document.

OK Pierre, the SQLNotes Forum works for me now. I just posted an enormous... post on categories, tags etc (sorry if it's too long). And I'm about to start a new thread on something else. Yippee!  :)

Hi Pierre. Thanks for keeping in touch!
1- I'll check the SQLNotes forum in a few minutes.
2a- Yes, I uninstalled before installing (but I didn't check out if everything was really gone -- maybe I'll try that right away, erase the folder, etc.).
2b- No, I don't get the export form.  :'(

Thanks Pierre. Nice job.

- I still can't create a new thread in the SQLNotes Forum... I really really have no idea what's going on! I always receive the error message :

"An error has occurred.
Error: Add/Edit Post is currently unavailable."

My guess is that someone is blocking me...  ;)
Seriously, what could it be ??

- And I still can't use the export to Web page. (I'm really jealous because the HTML export looks damn good!)

Evernote (FF plugin?)

Is there an EverNote toolbar in Maxthon? I can't remember. Anyways, I have no problems clipping stuff from Firefox into EverNote, and the EverNote WebClipper addon appears in my firefox addon (and the "add to EverNote" option appears in FF context menu). Roboform works without a hitch in FF and I'm going to buy it.  :)

Net snippets? I guess you could replace that with the great Zotero.

And if you still need to open some pages with the IE engine, you can always use the "IE tab" which will transparently open a tab using the IE engine INSIDE Firefox itself. sweet.

Many thanks Tomos and Pierre.

GRRRRRRR....!!! But it still doesn't it work here. I feel alone...  :)

So what happens ? Normally you just select some items (or all of them) and press the "export to a web page" button and then it just save s it in your sqlnotes folder (with the grid's name)? (That's what it does with the export to excel.)

Nothing happens here, at all-- I tried selecting items in different ways, etc.. I even did a global search on my HD to see if the export file went somewhere unexpected. Nothing. Nada. Bizarre.

OK, see you later in the afternoon. I REALLY have to go now.

When that happens again, please send me the file (if possible) to betasupport@sql... . It must be a very small thing (in need for a definite fix).

Sure. I still have my original database that didn't want to open. I can send it to you... I don't think that there are to many sensitive info in there...  :-[
Maybe could we find a way to not have to send the whole thing in the future?

> SQLNotes forum not functioning

Seems fine now...

Hi Pierre,
I still can't create a new thread. I saw the thread test at the forum, so I'm starting to think that the problem is really on my side, but, frankly, I've no idea of what it could be (some security settings??). I tried creating a new thread with FF, IE, login in, login out. Nothing goes. Same error mentioned earlier : "An error has occurred. Error: Add/Edit Post is currently unavailable."

Edit :.... And I'm still not able to export to Web pages...

In filter bar I've tried:
Projects and File and duration>0
Projects and File and (duration>0)

both coming up empty nada nix...

So by that filter I guess that you want all the items which have something (data) in the "projects" and "file" and "duration" fields to appear in the grid... But have you entered something in all of these fields ? in the duration field too???

Try just writing "duration" in the "search grid" 's filter (the one used "exclusively" for searches, so that you don't mess up your other grids...). If nothing comes up, than you don't have any durations entered anywhere.

Screenshot - 2008-02-18 , 03_17_09.jpg

Try the same thing with the projects + file fields. Write them there, in your filter bar. One... (then refresh if you want : f5). Then erase the term, and try the other one. refresh to make sure... (Make sure that the filters are really applied. Don't write the field when the entry zone is greyed out, but when it's "white")

Check in the property pane also. Find an item that you believe SHOULD appear in the grid when you apply your filter. Check the property pane and make sure that in the "filled fields" you have something appearing for these fields : Projects, File, duration. if not, well, there's your problem! If you have something in one of these fields but nothing in the others, you won't see anything because of the AND operator : the 3 fields must have something in them simultaneously. If that's not what you want, try using the OR operator (place it where you want it... can't help you with that).

* that would be a great idea actually
a search/filter pane which shows all the fields - like in the properties pane,
you fill in what you want and it gets shown in the filter bar
So, in this case I'd tick my two fields and fill ">0" in duration field,
click "Find" or "Filter" and off

well... If you have 100s of fields (which is very possible), it might be a bit hard to use... But this is already pretty much possible anyways with the "source bar" (alt+s). Just write all the fields and terms you want (with the proper operators, symbols etc.) and bingo.

There are many questions I want to ask Pierre, but there's one thing I'd really like to know... now. Do you guys have problems with the "Export to Web Page" feature? Seems broken here... Or maybe I'm doing something wrong? I thought that before I was just clicking the "Export to Web Page" button or menu option, with an opened Grid.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: New Script FARR Plugin: Clock

very cool.
my only suggestion is to not call it cl, and instead maybe "fcl" so it doesnt interfere with normal searching for files that might start with cl.

Or "cl "
^cl (.*)

This is the convention that I've adopted for all aliases + plugins : they end with a space.

Darwin, I've switched from maxthon to firefox in December (I would've liked opera, but there were a couple annoyances I couldn't get rid off...). Which plugins are there in Maxthon that you like so much? And BTW, there's a firefox plugin that will allow you to keep using the "favorites" system if you prefer to function that way (I do -- easier to find with farr and other search tools... and fits better with my tagging system) : PlainOldFavorites.
1423
There's actuallu the aliases for nircmd -- isn't it a default farr alias? Can't remember. I think I've got mine set to "^cmd (.*)" regex. But if I write, "shutd" Farr will show me the "shutdown" option. "reboo" and farr will show me reboot, etc. "cmd " and farr will show me all the nircmd options

There are a number of threads on that subject (one I started myself : https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=10469.0, and other ones like : https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=7469.0 ) .

Usually, the consensus is that there are no great and infallible (portable, robust, etc.) ways of tagging on windows XP, and the summary tab found in the file's property can unfortunately be pretty unreliable (not accessible under certain circumstances) and not that convenient to use -- edit, modify, search with a desktop search program, etc.

As for software, there's tag2find (the best tagging software I found) but it might disappear or go open source soon... There may are other solutions too, but I stopped searching once I decided to adopt a solution... after much thinking and pondering I now use a system which integrates tags in filenames. Yup, pretty straightforward, if you're careful with path length. I use AutoHotkey to implement that (but any software to systematize your file names would do; ie : direct access, intellicomplete).
