General Software Discussion / Re: Sosius
« Last post by cmpm on December 16, 2008, 09:27 PM »
Thamks for your input fenix.
I'll try to sort it all out soon enough, no hurry.

The idea is real time collaberation.
Which Google Docs does well.
But this had some more perks I think.

I reckon I should stay with the tried and proven.
I do have dropbox and can collaberate through Skype.
As well as the tools Skype has for real time sharing data.

I don't know adout SVN is the thing that I really posted for.

Well, I've been signed up for a while and using it.
I'm just wondering what this new thing is.
New to me anyway.

I'll do some research on it when I get time.
At work now, but I'll post what I find for anyone interested.
I am cause it looks rather cool!
And so far it has worked very good for me.

I thought maybe someone here would know right off.
So that kind of is not good considering the software crowd here.

The competitors would be what?
I guess google docs or Zoho or Thinkfree.
I haven't tried Collaber that has been mentioned here before.

Anyone work with others that would compare?

http://sosius.com/

Has anyone ever used this service?
I am and it works fine.

But now they have my head spinning with this newest addon.
I hope you can read this screenshot.

Which seems to be saying to sync folders with Sosius.
I guess.......

I don't know and I'm not sure what this SVN client is all about.
Or which one to choose from this list in linked in the newsletter.

http://subversion.ti...g/links.html#clients

Anyone know about this stuff?
Thanks in advance!

General Software Discussion / Re: VLC making improvements
« Last post by cmpm on December 15, 2008, 10:44 PM »
As far as installing vlc, or most anything, I always do the custom install, just to see what there is in options.
With vlc there is an option to uncheck making it the default player.

As far the KMPlayer. I like it a lot, but I opt for just hitting a song or opening a folder and click play without all the extras. But the extras in Km are nice to play around with. And it will play anything as well I think.

WMC, VLC, and KM play audio and video files fine....so far.
For me, it's the ease of playing songs and sometimes playing around with options, but mostly I just want music.

I'm glad they can all play on the same computer, bypassing quicktime and realplayer and wmp which we were stuck with years ago.

We can even play more then 1 song at once just for fun I reckon.

Yeah...
I think you would have to save it as a playlist or something.
Check out the advanced options.
Maybe there is something in there.

btw, if you do set it as the default player and then change to a different player as the default, that darn cone is still the icon for the file unless you uninstall vlc.

While I still have WMC as my default player,
VLC has improved since it's earlier versions.
I loaded it up but didn't set it to associate with anything.
It works well and seems to have an improved look.
Some things only work on VLC, so I keep it around.

People like Mr Silverstein, who know more than a little about encryption, find Mr Bottoms's security recommendations are weak and the problem is doubled when Mr Bottoms is adamant in recommending very poor software in the face of all the facts to the contrary.

Pardon the interruption of this fine review of Mr. Silverstein.
But this is the only paragraph that applies to this site or perhaps this particular thread called 'General Software'. Which would require POINTING OUT THE SOFTWARE!

If it's not too much trouble. That is what happens here and the complaints about certain bad companies and software distributors have a place also.

There is a thread where you can tell DC about yourself.

And as I said, point out the software or it's really useless as well.

No one here that I know of promotes, likes or distributes illegal drugs. Nor is it my intention to find out through this site.
1384
What art the backgrounds of the rest of these sites?
Or will this be another dodge the question and don't answer deal.

1385
This is not about politics or crime.
This is about you Silverstein.

Point out the software or have a can of shutup.
1386
Perhaps you should do a background check on me buddy.
Or the rest of dcer's who are here for the love of software.

This isn't about people's crimes until it affects the software promoted or mentioned or used by others.

Pardon me for butting in mouser.

Links are not saying anything that YOU know for a fact.

Anyone can say anything about anyone ALMOST anywhere on the web.
1387
Being from Louisiana is not a crime.
Why say what you said about KenR.

I spent 12 years in Lake Charles, does that make me an accomplice? And I never heard of what your accusations are till now.
1388
Why do you care Silverstein?
How is it you know of bears site and dc?

And what is ACF?

edit-thanks for the ACF info mouser....

Living Room / Re: Repeated drive corruption
« Last post by cmpm on December 13, 2008, 03:29 PM »
Thanks again.
I'm hurrying at the moment but from a VERY quick look it looks as if
these (http://www.dban.org/) and (http://www.lehigh.ed...ty/gwscan/gwscan.htm)
Will wipe anything they find.
Will I have an option ONLY to wipe the second of 4 drives, do you know?

TIA
-cranioscopical (December 13, 2008, 02:58 PM)

If you have a drive you do not want affected by these two programs, disconnect them from the computer.

Test each drive separately on the machine.
If you want to go to all that wirk.
Otherwise mouser's suggestion is workablr as well.

Again if you run nuke and boot or gwscan,
remove any drives you do not want wiped.
Though there are options I don't take those chances.

You could try these two options after saving your data to a safe place.

http://www.dban.org/

http://www.lehigh.ed...ty/gwscan/gwscan.htm

gwscan will make your drive raw, and need formated
but if it's something software related it will kill it

I'd bet on them being tied to some adblocker or spyblocker.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Synergy: Sharing your keyboard and mouse
« Last post by cmpm on December 09, 2008, 06:39 AM »
When you first install Synergy, be sure to do the 'test' part first which will trigger your firewall to open up and let you allow it to work. After adding and configuring your computers, first.

'Test' instead of 'Start' first, then you can set to start and set the option to start with the computer or logon.

No problem, love to find things!

I didn't post who I would give what to cause I really don't know.
The schools here are up to date with tech stuff, so I would have to do some searching for the proper place to give some of this. It's a small town though so it should not be too hard to find some place for some great technology.

I'd bet CoolIris is the problem.
There have been many complaints since it's recent updates.

Try removing CoolIris and see if it's better.
Then reinstall CoolIris.

It's no a 'deal' or 'discount' so I thought I would post it here.

I think all you have to do is leave a comment on this web page. But I'm not sure.

It's all getting pretty crazy with the music stuff.
Soon another can't listen to your cd itself!

I've had some youtube songs bookmarked for a long time,
to return and find it gone with a copyright infringement notice.

If they would stick to the copy for profit idea instead of just posting a friggin song for enjoyment then that would make sense.

I can record a Football Game and replay it for anyone if it's not for profit and not infringe on the copyright laws of the US. The same should apply to songs imo.
