General Software Discussion / Re: Command to empty recycle bin?
« Last post by PhilB66 on September 27, 2007, 11:31 PM »
Here's a .js script to do that:

shl = new ActiveXObject("Shell.Application");
bin = shl.NameSpace(10);
bin.Self.InvokeVerb("Empty Recycle &Bin");

Also, Recycle Bin in Quick Launch might be a useful tweak for some ... ???

I was wondering how do you guys go about keeping your system drivers - motherboard, graphics card, mouse, etc., up to date? Do you use a third party scanners to download updates or visit the manufacturer web site to do so?

General Software Discussion / FolderViewer - File Manager

FolderViewer - a freeware Windows Explorer replacement.

2007-09-21_231932.jpg

Browse folder content, print, preview, (un)pack and organize MS Office documents, MP3 files, Photos and much more. FolderViewer integrates with IE and provides a built in browser as well as a text editor with syntax coloring, image viewer, media player, and more. Here's a description from Softpedia:

"FolderViewer it is a completely new application designed for organizing your files.

It will help you to list, print, (un)pack, rename, search, distribute and convert and edit files and images. The files are presented on screen according to different Views.

There are already 50 different Views implemented in the program, but you can design as many as you want and save them to disc. All nearly 110 file properties (i.e. Author) and derived properties (i.e. Week number) can be used to Group, Filter, Sort or Search on.

Use the Multi Rename Tool to rename files on the fly using the file properties in the new filename, correcting case properties as well.
The Folder content or search results can be saved or exported to CSV, Excel, XML or HTML files for example to publish your MS Word documents to a local Intranet."

Anyone know if it's possible to run an app like DoPDF on a USB memory stick?

Tomahawk PDF+ (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=71), Swift PDF (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1216), and PDFProducer (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=142) are portable pdf tools. If you insist on doPDF, then MojoPac might offer a solution, but it's not free. Lifehacker article here.

Also, this thread HOWTO: create a portable application? might prove useful ???

PDF-XChange Viewer was featured on Lifehacker on June this year, and the reviews are good. Having said that, it might have the same compatibility issues as with Foxit (read the comments on Lifehacker), but hey it's free.
