Shades: would that work in that dialog? Doesn't the certificate have to be signed by microsoft somewhere along the chain?

JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / Re: GridMove: Grids Here
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 26, 2008, 05:46 PM »
Oh, that's really simple.. Just use something like this:

[Groups]
NumberOfGroups = 1

[1]
TriggerTop = [Monitor1Top]
TriggerRight = [Monitor2Right]
TriggerBottom = [Monitor1Bottom]
TriggerLeft = [Monitor1Left]
GridTop = [Monitor1Top]
GridRight = [Monitor2Right]
GridBottom = [Monitor1Bottom]
GridLeft = [Monitor1Left]
This grid assumes that the first monitor is on the left, and the second monitor on the right. If it's the other way around, just replace '1' with '2' and '2' with '1' (except on '[1]').

Find And Run Robot / Re: UNC Paths in FARR

Currently, mouser has disabled UNC paths support.
Read more about it on this thread (Searching network shares).

Find And Run Robot / Re: FARR Won't Start Programs - Vista
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 26, 2008, 04:53 AM »
So we can hunt this bug down, i've been testing the launch methods on my vista64 machine.

With the "use document launch helper utility" on,
 - method one launches everything with no problems.
 - method two can't launch .doc files decently, word opens but doesn't have any file open. Notepad files are opened correctly, and so are .lnk and executable files.

With the option  off,
 - method one launches everything correctly.
 - method two has the same effect as above.

So, one could say that in my system, the option has no effect, and the method one is preferrable.

Living Room / Re: Router keeps having mysterious issues - help??
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 25, 2008, 07:02 PM »
I've had a very similar problem with my wrt150n. Sometimes, the router just shuts wireless down when there's too much trafic flowing through it.
Unfortunately, if you ask linksys, you'll probably get no answer (at least,the thread i saw about this problem had 4 pages of complaints and no answer from linksys).
I highly recommend dd-wrt. Although my router still crashes when there's too much traffic, now this doesn't happen everytime, only from time to time. It's still anoying, but not that much anoying.

PS: this is already my third linksys router, and all of them had problems along the way. The first one took 3 years, but now it's inoperable, the second one would get weak signal when i was 3 feet away from it, and i only bought this one because it looked like a good router.. Unfortunately, i think it'll be the last linksys router i'll ever buy. Not so much for the quality of the material (which sucks), but for the quality of the support, which i would expect to be better from such a renown company.

Well, the results are pretty conclusive (this assuming that the trend will continue).
But i wouldn't expect anything else from this community :)
In terms of the general public, i'd say that the people that actually install their own OS are a very small minory, probably arround 10% or less (that's just a random number based on the people i know, which is just as good as any other statistic :P).
1335
Only now did i notice i didn't actually reply to the question  :-[
On my personal computers, i always install a new windows not only to change partitions, remove crapware and etc, but also because most of the time i replace the original OS with the pro/bussiness version supplied by my university :)

I also support deozaan's opinion. the question is whether you've already installed windows over the OEM install, or if you usually just use the OEM install.

Find And Run Robot / Re: [Bug report] Wrong order in file browser
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 25, 2008, 01:03 PM »
I believe this was reported before and mouser said he'd fix it (i'm not sure, though, as i can't seem to find that thread).
The problem here is that the heuristics are being used for sorting of browsing results, and that shouldn't happen.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: New C# FARR Plugin: FARRGoogleCalendar
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 25, 2008, 12:55 PM »
Ok, glad to know at least we figured out what was causing that.

I belive '\7' worked in previous versions, something must be wrong. (or it was some other escape sequence which i am not remembering correctly  :-[).

I don't think it'd make much sense for that behaviour to be changed for this plugin specifically. I mean, if generaly people would like to use digits to launch, this should apply to this plugin which also has several stuff that can be launched. Still, in the specific situation that you're entering a new event, it might make sense to disable the feature.
Maybe mouser could add a "temporary disable feature" capability to the plugin framework?

IIRC, the plugins that have memo display (like fcalc, for example), ignore that setting and always assume it's off, so the capability is there, in theory.

In short, the answer to your question, sri, would be: No, not at this time.

sri: does '\7' (backslash followed by the number 7) work?
The problem might be that when you press '7', farr tries to launch the 7th result.
To solve this problem, there's an option to specify if "digit keys launch results from search window".

I only have one advice: answer to those individuals in a decent way and explain them why they are wrong.
Please, please don't follow other companies' policies of erasing the posts that you consider bad for your reputation, it gives a VERY bad look for the costumer. I do agree with doing moderation on the wording, if necessary.

Just giving some feedback on the navigation panel: I like the new colors (the darker red) way better than the previous ones.

Also, I think you should move "A UK Charity supporting "The Gambian Organisation for the Visually Impaired"
(Registered Charity 1070173)" somewhere else and move the top banner up. I say this because it's stealing too much screen real-estate. One of the rules with web pages is to not make them long, but if the top banner and text are taking 1/3rd of the screen, this task becomes more complicated.
1343
mouser: i think dreftymac's problem is if there's a way for a plugin to paste text on to the previous window, like it's possible through aliases... Does the SDK export this capability?
1344
At least now it doesn't look as cluttered as it was before. The idea about adding more tabs (now leaves on the tree) was a good one, the dialog is now easier on the eyes.
Does this framework allow you to add icons to the leaves on the tree? I think it'd help in the visual aspect.
1345
mouser: This new options dialogue.. Impressive!!! Congratulations on cleaning that messy-looking dialog, it's looking great, now :D

 ;D Whoa, 3 affirmative answers in so little time, i guess that really must work :D

BigJim: Up until this point, jre is fully backwards compatible, thus, keeping olders versions isn't necessary. It might be in the future, though, if they decide to change something in the virtual machine. (which i'm very doubtful they'll ever do, since they've been avoiding it at all costs)

Living Room / Re: How Interesting is Your IP Address?
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 24, 2008, 06:23 PM »
I've got an interesting ip!

Score: 23
89 is prime +5
211 is prime +12
(+17)
180 is the maximum score from three darts (+1)
Your IP address as a poker hand:
Seven of ♣ Clubs
Queen of ♣ Clubs
Four of ♣ Clubs
Four of ♠ Spades
Five of ♥ Hearts

You have a pair (+5)
IP address as a colour (0)
The IP translates to Sunday 10th September 2017 as a UNIX date (0)
This IP address as a phrase: land than never hard (0)
Your IP address has scored: 23. Of the 356645 IP's spotted so far, this is ranked: 37097.
The map ended up somewhere in Canada, apparently not an interesting place.
The bitmap really didn't look like anything, i'm not very imaginative :)

Your bitmap is just great, mouser! :D That one's a keeper ;)

Please, do continue, though.. I'm enjoying the talk :)
