Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Tray Management Utilities Mini-Review
« Last post by Darwin on February 18, 2009, 03:58 PM »
I tried running this lameware on WinXP Pro SP3.

I can live without it too.  What I hate is wasting money (that was my fault for not trying it long enough), and being ignored (not my fault).

Can't argue with any of that. Sorry you've had such a crappy experience with this. I agree that customer support really must be improved.

Hope you find a solution that does work for you!

Well... it's not all roses! I find that he usually responds long after I've forgotten all about writing him! In this latest case, I wrote to him on February 11th and had a reply today - so a week's interval. I'm not really bothered one way or the other - I can live without PS Tray Factory on this machine, so there's no real urgency from my end. I like the software under XP and hope that I can help to bring it to the same level under Vista 64 bit (I did use it under Vista 32 bit, but again, Vista's built-in hide tray icons feature seems much more reliable than XP's...).

Scott - what OS are you trying to run PS Tray Factory under? FWIW, it seems that once you enter into a dialogue with the developer, he's pretty good about keeping you in the loop. I definitely get the impression that he has a day job. Not making excuses for the guy - just a (random) observation! Here's another: funny that you and I have wound up on a thread that discusses, in part, SystrayX - my first ever PM exchange was with you regarding disabling the XFilesDialog splash screen  :)

PS cute sig!

Excuse the cross-post, but I wanted to make sure that people see this:

Just an update, this build doesn't work on my system at all (Vista 64 bit) - it behaves exactly as does PS Tray Factory 2.5 under Vista 32 bit - it installs fine but the main window doesn't populate with icons to be hidden/shown. I'll keep you updated...

I've posted a link to the latest alpha build of PS Tray Factory 3 in the Similar program to Ps Tray factory that works on Vista 64-bit. thread.

Am about to install it myself...

Just received a link to the latest alpha build of the 64 bit version of PS Tray Factory, if anyone is interested in giving it a shot:

http://www.pssoftlab...load/pstrayf303a.exe

I've used each version and they have gotten progressively better. Haven't run this one, yet, but the previous build was pretty stable.

Wow. Thank you, thank you, thank you, mouser! I finally remembered to extract the contents of the archive and load them up into my media player. Very nice  I like the ethereal quality of her voice and the simplicity of the arrangement (acoustic guitar and voice).

Awesome! Good find, mouser

Carol - be strong. The key to parenting is to find the strength not to give in to every whim that catches your child ward's fancy. It's tough, but you're preparing them for a future in which the simple act of wanting does not equal having...  ;D

For speaking 10% English, Shook, you're doing great.

Yes! He's ahead of most native English speakers WRT his command of the language!

General Software Discussion / Re: WDS and huge index files?
« Last post by Darwin on February 18, 2009, 09:19 AM »
Interesting question, Jim. I just tried to check the size of my index and Windows won't let me view the files! I can't even see their size - off to try Treesize Pro now...

OK - tried that, apparently my WDS index is... 0 bytes! What the...?!

I recently reinstalled X1 Pro and let it "replace WDS". Perhaps it disables WDS while it's at it... If so, everything works as expected, including Outlook search (just verified this), so I'm happy!

FWIW, I also triple checked WDS options and I haven't moved the index, so it's not an issue of my looking in the wrong place  :o

Finally, I think deleting the index and letting it rebuild itself is probably the best idea - be interesting to see how big the resulting index is...

Just checked the Clipmate forum and note that inbound clip filtering is currently under development. I'm guessing this will be a feature added to version 8...

Cloq - what a great idea! I'd love to have this functionality. I have Clipmate 7 installed, but have not "discovered" this capability within it - will dig around the help files, user manual, and forum and see if it is already part of the feature set (if it is, it is not immediately obvious from the menu)...

Your company is bumping you off?! That's a bit drastic, isn't it? What did you do, sleep with the boss' teenage daughter?

Sorry, couldn't resist. My understanding of being bumped off is "killed"  :P Anyway, hope that provides you with a laugh dduring what can only be a stressful and trying time.

Now, it would help us to help you, I think, if you give us an idea of where you are? A class that includes hardware will likely be "physical", meaning that you'll need to attend in person, and I'm assuming that your employer is going to pay for the course(s), but not airfare and living expenses if you have to move in order to attend school? Where I am, there are a lot of 12 to 18 month courses that offer students a new notebook on successful completion. They tend to be vocational colleges, though some may well offer some computer training. Not sure!

I usually indicate where I've edited. However, if I post something and then 30 seconds later realise that I've made an embarrassing spelling mistake, used a split infinitive, or made an error in logic and can edit it and repost less than a minute after having posted it, I don't bother... Maybe I’ll start doing so, though...

By the way, that's a nice wallpaper image for your laptop. Did you take that photo yourself?

No... I only downloaded it the other day and I've already forgotten the site  :o As iit’s only about 250kb, I’m attaching it now (hope that's OK? Mods feel free to remove if inappropriate).

Thanks, Mike, for giving me yet another chance to use my dictionaries!  ;)

Sorry, everyone, for someone involved in ESL (English as a Second Language) education for 15 years, I'm still REALLY Anglo-centric (English language centric I mean...)  :o

Nice! Is the 5k-posts mug a standard item now?

Haven’t gotten yours yet, f0dder? I meant to include you in my "hope Carol AND f0dder post pictures of their mugs when they receive them"  :-[ Sorry...  :o

Yeah. Alright. I *might* have liberated a food tray or two in my day - they are excellent for keeping the external vents under a notebook from getting obstructed. After my mother-in-law fried a near new notebook harddrive, I took action...

I like the mugs, too. They’re quite large and make for a very satisfying morning coffee ritual...  :)

I took delivery of my 5000 posts DC mug yesterday and thought I'd post a picture of it here:

IMG_0002-small.JPG

Unfortunately, my notebook is sitting on my desk in my office* and there is a window just above and to the left of it, so I had to use the flash to bring out the text on the mugs. The one on the left is the 5000 posts commemorative mug and the one on the right is my membership mug.

Thank you, mouser!

*and I am too lazy to move it...  :o

I'll post some action shots later... just picked up my hoodie today. And argh, I had to pay almost $40 in customs for it >_<

* f0dder curses at the very idea of customs.

Ouch! DK customs and excise sounds almost as Draconian as Canada Customs  >:(

Looking forward to the picture, though...

@Brandon - where the h-e-double hockey sticks is your picture?! I can’t even find a post from you on the first page, and yet there you are mkaing excuses for using ImageShack  ;D

Site/Forum Features / What's the interval between posting and editing being noted?
« Last post by Darwin on February 17, 2009, 02:07 PM »
Just to note - twice now I’ve gone back and edited a post after more than a minute had passed since posting and the result is not tagged ‘Last edited by... at... ‘. Don't know if this is by design or not!

OK it IS working but there is a greater "grace" period than I recall. What is the interval, as noted in the subject line?
