Finished Programs / Re: DONE: On Screen Button That Sends Keyboard Commands
« Last post by cranioscopical on September 26, 2011, 07:28 PM »
My feedback is that this all is stellar! Truly, it's first-class work.

I'll have to go back through the relevant topics as I'm having the problem of the cursor wanting to be on the MIMO but that's my fault, I just haven't yet figured out how/where to nail it. I'm sending from buttons, the target is receiving (at least it's reacting) but I've yet to get the desired result.

Now that I have more time I'm looking forward to playing with this some more.

Any opinions about Malware Bytes?

Good/bad?

Worth it/not?

TIA

I kinda love it how we keep mixing the use of the US and UK version of color and colour ;D
Do me a favor, knock it off!  ;)
1305
It's even possible that the touch-foil is interfering with the proper color-display
Foiled again!

Let me rephrase: When it happens next I will ready with a fallguy to blame.
At last! Congratulations, you're finally ready to move into corporate management!

It won't happen again.
… before the next time  ;D

You could try 'The Sage', it's a Dictionary and Thesaurus.
I'll second that — I was about to suggest it when I saw your post. I run the CD version of the full OED (2nd edition) here and find The Sage to be almost as useful >80% of the time.

Nice work, Ath and Nudone

I'm becoming a little frustrated by this whole exercise. When I played the dumb user for Ath in the early WinButtons daze (well, it was no act) I had a handle on things to some extent. Then a bunch of other stuff came along, in the middle of which I bought the MIMO, and this whole adventure has had to be moved to a back burner. I'd rather be a contributor than a spectator but…

Anyone else with the MIMO noticed such terrible colour production on the touchscreen?
Yeah, it's diabolical. This Pantone chart on my MIMO might as well be from a different range compared to what shows on the others. Reds shift to brown (too much green?) I haven't looked for a MIMO calibration program.

While colour matters on the main screens, I don't much care about the MIMO in this regard — for my purchase, display quality wasn't a significant criterion.

I feel like I am not in control, like the name just happened, not like I chose it. RealWorld is kind of random
Some accidental events turn out to be a godsend. Real World has connotations of practicability and reliability.

FWIW I'm with 40hz…  no paintee, please no paintee — too suckee!

vlastimil, be aware that "Quaint" can have a somewhat old-fashioned, almost disparaging connotation in modern usage..

I strongly agree that you should use 'RW' for thematic continuity.

RW Imagin (with apologies to 40hz  ;D)  ?

RW Imaged  ?

RW PaintKing ?

Best of luck, whatever you choose!

While I know that the boot drive cannot actually be ejected ...
You, sir, obviously have never seen me at work  ;D or do I mean  :-[

Personally, I'm glad that you're forging ahead with the external USB items. Here, those drives need the most attention, simply because they are swapped around so much.

Let me know what you think on the local USB drive thing (needed or ignorable).
-Stoic Joker

It would be useful if all of these items could be gathered in one application.  Nothing should impede overall progress, though. Why not set it aside for later?

W7 gives some very quirky-seeming (to me) connections when it shows 'safely remove'. I'm left wondering, almost, if I'm about to eject my boot drive  ;D

Then there are the WD SCSI drives that are actually SATA (speaking of which, when searching for something else yesterday, I pulled out a bunch of old SCSI drives, including a Plextor CD drive.

General Software Discussion / Re: cross tabulation

yup, I am too sure it can be done easily, but I know nothing about pivot tables and their terminology
I'm no Excel expert either but it does have good built-in help. You probably could learn from that what to do.

Hope that helps  :)

Cool! Thanks for chiming in ... Now we just gotta get cranioscopical sorted out. :)

Hold on, I just found a different application with missing context menus.

GotSpace is working perfectly.

GS 'safely removed' my thumb drive and also ejected discs from the optical drives.

I had to use system restore to get back my context menu on GS and some other applications (though it was working perfectly well in most). My apologies if you wasted time on this SJ!

I don't get a context menu.
Downloaded a couple of times to make sure nothing weird happened there.
I have context menus in all else.
I do have both optical and removable drives showing in the table.

Anyone else in my boat?

what I have seen lately, but forgot to mention, was delays/short-freezes with FARR (typed letters not showing beyond the first one or two), with an associated CPU flurry which turned out to be MSSE - presumably checking out whatever was on the list. Not always, but often.
That occurs here. I've nothing useful to contribute to understanding it.

Context menu entry to eject drive?
Context menu entry to 'safely remove' drive?

This one might get me into trouble as not all drives are ejected the same (USB vs. Optical vs. ?), but it's worth a shot. I was also thinking about adding mapping/disconnecting network drive options. But that's really getting close to the razor edge of the project scope. As initially this was only supposed to be a passive display utility. *Shrug* Oops. :)
They are only suggestions  :)
Had you not made it so effective you might have got away with passive only. (Make rod for Empire, Empire strikes back.)
Basically, being very, very lazy I'll use only one utility for this kind of thing. To make my hit parade it has to be a one-stop solution. Feel free to rain on my parade as hard as you like.

I assume you could lock out inappropriate actions for given drive types.

He has pushed it off in favor of other programs or services which appear to get sidelined as well.
Putting tongue-in-cheek aside (not easy to do that physically) you gotta admit he's constantly improving something.
1321
I'm sure I deserve it (in your sick and twisted mind).
Mmmm.
1322
Just thought I'd mention that using the latest drivers for the MIMO make no difference to my boot problems. The touchscreen is recognised after the driver is first installed and the machine rebooted but rebooting after that and the screen pretends it isn't connected. Which means I have to boot up without the screen attached - then plug it in.

Not too inconvenient I admit but I'll add this problem to the list of why touchscreens are still completely useless for wide appeal.

I'm happy to say that there is no such problem here. Just a quick cut to black... so fast that it hardly registers. Reboot always picks up the MIMO (unless I've turned it off, obviously).
1323
I guess I just have never heard the term used that way.
Variety is the splice of life.

Suggestions welcome

On W7-64 my external USB drives show up as local (both USB 2 and 3).
How about a user-selectable exclusion by drive letter?

Context menu entry to eject drive?
Context menu entry to 'safely remove' drive?
