Oh yes...I can see the logic there.....-Stephen66515 (August 22, 2014, 07:40 PM)
There is no logic in this security system. It was a knee jerk reaction and a chance for some profitable corruption, on the part of the local school board (a school board member has a relative that works for the company that was paid to set this whole thing up).
But enough about this basement worthy topic. Back to the jokes!-app103 (August 22, 2014, 07:46 PM)
When her co-workers retrieved their phones to try to call her, they found that she had been frantically trying to call and text people to come help her.-app103 (August 22, 2014, 05:30 AM)
Um... Why not call someone outside of the school to come help?-Deozaan (August 22, 2014, 12:23 PM)
This is the first school in the US with a security system like this.
Calling someone outside the school would be like calling someone in another country. What could they possibly do to help you?
Because getting into that school is like trying to break into the Pentagon, and getting out is like trying to escape from a maximum security prison, if you are not a student or employee with a key card. And even then, it's tough, as you can see from this incident.
Not even a parent can get in there. The school is on constant high security lock down.
I would hate to think what it would be like if they switched it to maximum security lock down (which is supposed to be done if there is a shooter in the school, which could only be an employee or student, with the way it's all set up), where they deactivate all cards so nobody can move from room to room, and nobody gets in or out, even if they have a card.-app103 (August 22, 2014, 07:26 PM)

Good luck indeed Stephen! That's incredibly cool. Hopefully you'll let us all know more about it as the date draws nearer.

Chrome browser has a print to PDF function that I use to capture web sites. Open Office/Libra Office has the function built in. CutePDF writer works great too for everything else.-wetsmellydog (August 20, 2014, 04:10 PM)
Honestly though...we all know our information is being bought, linked, sold, auctioned, taken apart, put back together, and whatever else...life is life-Stephen66515 (August 17, 2014, 09:46 PM)
IMHO, acquiescence and capitulation are no way to go through life. Whether or not the above is true, we don't need to accept it. Or tolerate it either. Just sayin'-40hz (August 20, 2014, 06:04 AM)
Totally agreed. And just telling someone 'don't use it then', is not an acceptable alternative. Market pressure is a very real thing.-wraith808 (August 20, 2014, 02:38 PM)
We all use personal computers and we all take them for granted in our everyday lives. It’s easy to forget that PCs have only been around for a couple of decades, and initially were nowhere near the powerhouses we have on our desks today.
For example, did you know that the first “portable” computer weighed 25 kg (55 lb) and cost close to $20,000, that the first laser printer was big enough to fill up most of a room, or that you basically had to build the first Apple computer yourself?
This article takes a look at the time when the computer equipment we now take for granted was invented and what it looked like back then.
The first computer mouse
The first computer mouse was invented in 1963 by Douglas Engelbart at the Stanford Research Institute. (He is also one of the inventors of hypertext.) The first mouse used two wheels positioned at a 90-degree angle to each other to keep track of the movement (see picture below). The ball mouse wasn’t invented until 1972, and the optical mouse was invented circa 1980 although it didn’t come to popular use until much later.
Douglas Engelbart never received any royalties for his invention and his patent had run out by the time the mouse became commonplace in the era of home PCs.
What’s the big deal? Speed. Speed and
throughput are the really big deals. And
while promises of Gigabit speeds may
seem overstated – or maybe unnecessary
right this minute – HD streaming media
and real-time video are becoming
commonplace, meaning it won’t be long
before you need that extra oomph.
One of our Technibble forum members, PcTek9, and a handful of other Technibble members have compiled a large list of CDs for various computer repair tasks. In this list, the following types of CD are available for download: Antivirus Boot CDs, Recovery Disks, Hardware Diagnostic Boot CDs, Network Testing/Monitoring, Data Recovery Boot CDs and Special Purpose CDs.
Some of these are free to download, some are not. Be sure to read the EULA for the CD’s you download and the applications you use to make sure you are allowed to use them in the manner you plan to use them in. Many of the CDs contain a variety of different programs and some of the applications are free to use as you please, but some of them disallow commercial use. So be sure to read and abide by the EULA for whatever you use.
What’s the best PDF printer for Windows? We checked 7 of the most popular options to find out.
It’s kind of shocking that printing in Windows 8 doesn’t come with a PDF option; Mac and Linux users have had this by default for years. Windows users still need dedicated software, and it’s all of varying quality.
PDF printers let you save any file you can print as a PDF, meaning that any computer on Earth can open it without much trouble. Because these programs disguise themselves as regular printers, you can use them to create a PDF file in any program that lets you print. We’ve shown you how to print to PDF on Windows 8, but such software is by no means new: you can use it on any version of Windows.
