hi cshnik,
it's a good idea I think, to update the first post as well with the most recent link/update.

Would it be okay to try it out on a home-office machine (i.e. one used for commercial use) ?
(EDIT// I should probably say I'm using skwire's Splat, which seems to be comparable - https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=39934.0)

I'm very grateful As to "amn't", though it's off topic, you might like to have a look at http://www.worldwide...s.org/qa/qa-amn1.htm!

very interesting, I didnt know it was so localised in usage.
You now know roughly where I'm from :)

So: if I set it up to open main window after capture, and to autosave as per your screenshot, how do I go about adding a caption/comment [..] I wonder how I do it with the main screen.

late here, so just a quick reply:
see the toolbar running down the right-hand-side, there's one there for text:
  • clicking icon will display a formatting panel down the right side
  • click-drag in image to create textbox
  • type - you can select text & change settings in the panel

As said, not sure how the other caption works, this one allows a lot of control, hopefully will cover your needs

Screenshot - 2017-06-14 , 00_11_24.png

And I love "amn't"
was actually a little surprised it set off the spellchecker (normally dont use one)

I have "show post capture dialog" set as after-capture preference, so that I can set any caption I like.

ah okay, we're doing this in completely different ways. I'm just working within the SC window - select a thumbnail on the left, and work on it, add text, etc.

I've not really used the method you describe (so presume the problem is a bug with that), and amn't sure the auto-save option I mentioned would even be relevant there.
But in case:

hi orbis,
been using both added text and 'splice out' lately and haven't had this problem - but I dont save the image until I'm finished. (In options I have it set to auto-save when focus is moved to another image.)

[edit] removed flawed example I had attached - think it was user error: i.e. I cannot reproduce problem (and think white stripe was my applying text twice) [/edit]

I pay ~$150 per year for [SpiderOak's] family plan which allows unlimited space for up to ten computers total (of which I back up six total).

got a mail saying they are offering an unlimited plan just until Saturday, June 17 -- but dont say how many machines you can connect to it. Price is $149 per year.

FWIW, when I try to access via my account page (clicking 'CHANGE' link in the 'Plan' section) , it hangs -- but I dont want/need the offer anyway -- was just trying to see if they gave any more info if one attempted to proceed with the offer.

I've also used vlastimil's Picture Resizer which is sort of user-friendly-command-line:

Quality is good, but it might not suit as it saves new renamed files in the same folder

Haven't had to do this in years. FWIW there's a few older threads on the topic:

FastStone Image Resizer & IrfanView were recommendations that both are still in development (and both 'free' AFAIK)

On Windows 7 I used use Resize.exe see:

General Software Discussion / Re: PDF viewer that reopens files after crash
« Last post by tomos on June 11, 2017, 04:48 AM »
Windows does keep track of most recently opened files in a list.

I find files are often not included in this list: even files I've just created (e.g. print to PDF), but I've never paid enough attention to try and figure out if there is a pattern to the files which are *not* included.

I use the FARR most-recently-used plugin to get and search a list of files. Very helpful.

@Kalos, FWIW, I cant remember my PDF reader crashing (Adobe Reader), but then I mostly use it to have a quick look at a PDFs I've just created, and that's it.

Strong sense of dejavu here...

Quick search found threads quoted below -
which of the recommendations did you try?

hello!

I need to backup specific files and folders in my laptop realtime on cloud. Or maybe there is a better backup strategy in case something goes wrong? Could you advise me please?

If not, then which service would be the best? Easy, reliable, free preferably, secure, etc?

Hello!

I am generally satisfied by Bitcasa, but it interferes with an online game I play and it makes it sluggish!

So, is there any alternative?

That will monitor and maintain an cloud back up of specific local files and folders?

Free please!

Living Room / Re: Why Running May Be Good for Your Back
« Last post by tomos on June 08, 2017, 03:50 PM »
It makes sense to me, following this logic:

Our bodies have ways of coping with frequent, repeating stressors. For example, our hands and feet develop calluses to protect them from wear and tear. Many minor "injuries" lead to the hands becoming hardened and more resistant to the effects. But people who don't use their hands in such a way don't develop these calluses.

I'd guess it's a similar thing with our backs. If you run regularly, you repeatedly and frequently "injure" your back in minor ways, so the body compensates by making stronger discs, etc.

Along with the "motion is lotion" saying could be added: "If you don't use it, you lose it."

I dont know that the back works that way -- if you damage between the vertebrae or the vertebrae themselves, they dont recover well.

I could imagine the way it helps is through use of the back and stomach muscles when running - these hold the back straighter; they also lengthen the back, which leads to the vertebrae being further apart from each other, so they and all between them doesn't get damaged.

EDIT// which ties in with the 'Gokhale method' which I still follow: one of the core ideas is to keep the back straight and lengthened. It hurts me to see my niece (age 11) who used to naturally sit so beautifully straight -- she now slumps when sitting in almost a half-circle curve...

I found a trial that serves perfectly well, just because goes to one of my screens without any configuration.

Affirmator

can you explain what you mean by:
it "goes to one of my screens without any configuration"

I know you said you don't want to enter a location, so this isn't very helpful, but just FYI:

The default clock in Android allows you to add multiple locations, and shows the current time/date at those locations.

the more the merrier
but I use a windows phone :-( lol

This one is half way there -- shows current time on a map:

General Software Discussion / Intelligent Time Zone display (online or local)
« Last post by tomos on June 07, 2017, 05:03 AM »
I'm looking for a site, or software, that will quickly show time (current or given) in all timezones, or in timezones of choice.

1) Maybe like the map below - but instead of +1, +2, etc, it would simply show either (a) the current time in each time zone, or (b) show a given time (i.e. one I add). Ideally I would be able to add the 'given' time in a timezone of my choice.

Screenshot - 2017-06-07 , 11_53_04.png
[http://staging.timeanddate.com/time/map/]

Most sites I found so far request a location -- I simply want to know a timezone e.g.
  • what time is it now in Pacific Time, or
  • what time would it be here, when it is 9pm pacific time

2) Or something like this below would be good, if I could custom add timezones, instead of cities

It would also be nice to tweak the interface design a bit, just 20% more so that it does not look that simple
I'm curious:
do you mean to just make it 'look better' ?
or had you practical changes in mind ?
