I plan to release an update next Saturday for CCleaner 2.0 functionality, JkDefrag to replace IObit SmartDefrag, and a couple more things, and I may or may not keep trying to fix WinFix :-\

The updater was almost complete, but I am sticking to my release date and will have to try to get that in the next update.

The installer is a LOT smaller, without WinFix it is only 3MB :) so that should also please dial-up users (and bandwith-limited users)

Enjoy!

OK, I just threw together a summarized changelog/list of plans...the list of plans is the same length as the changelog, so the project has a lot of work to do- but I am very satisfied with it. :)

Here goes:

Changes with CompuTech CommandCenter V1.0

Smart Loading - Enhanced loading for all programs
Quick switch - on-demand, instant program reaction. switch tasks without lag time
Ease of use - enhanced interfaces in all programs, informaion boxes on first run of all programs
Code Cleaned - removed unneeded code to enhanced speed and eliminate errors
Code Enhanced - changed many lines of code to speed up and make the programs "smarter"
AI - now uses "AI" for several functions
Dual donations - donate to Brandon OR Walt
Easy Donate - first-run donation request box (10 sec duration) makes donating a snap
Squeezed and chopped - smaller, more compact, and better layout means a smaller file size and easier code maintenance
Code Editing - planning for updates, much of the code of all the programs has been organized for easy maintenance for future versions
Program Combinations - now just 5 programs, and they are more efficient, too
CommandCenter - open programs and update the system easily & quickly
Hassle-free setup - setup for users of all experience levels
EasyOpen is Open Source (partially) - add your own programs to EasyOpen and remove the ones you don't want (just don't use the code anywhere else and follow the guidelines in the script at the top)
Simpler setup - 1 package = less hassle
Cleaner registry/Program Files - the single package setup keeps your registry and Program Files folder uncluttered
Smart Technology - added almost 1,000 improvements, and more are coming!

Plans:
DCUppdater compatible?
FileForum hosted?
Easier layout?
AHK-based install?
Better looking icons?
More programs?
Shareware (it is getting complex writing all of this, but if I do this DC supporting members WILL get about 75% off - where else can you get a $2.50 program)? <-- just to clarify on this, I don't plan on doing this unless it gets really popular and becomes difficult maintaining it (so don't expect it to happen :P
More step-by-step oriented?
More graphical GUI?
Easier setup?
Eliminate CCleaner and CleanUp and replace with EasyErase/EasyWash?
Even SMALLER file size?
Hosted on FileHippo?
Hosted on Download.com?
Extensive help file(s)?
Proper webpage (fixed and cleaned version of current ones)?
Portable version?
UNIX/LINUX VERSION?

Also - last second update here...
I had a semi-working Updater going for me earlier today, and it failed on me. It will be taken out until the next version.
WinFix will most likely be renamed- and the code is still dead, so that will be taken out until the next version as well.

I am building the final couple test versions now, just making sure everything works. I am going to upload it tomorrow (thats my plan, anyways) and it will be a link to the Maze Craze site (its 10MB, max size permitted on forum uploads is 8MB, and my normal website is still not taking EXEs and corrupting my ZIPs... >:() so don't be startled.

Any feedback or questions or anything I will take in tomorrow, I have a birthday party to go to, so plenty of coding time :D

Living Room / Keyboard shortcuts
« Last post by wreckedcarzz on September 08, 2007, 01:11 AM »
Figured I would start a thread about this because it would most likely be useful to a large user base here at DC and not just me, so maybe this will get some attention...

Anyways- I recently became keyboard nut. I am going insane with hotkeys and shortcuts. My mouse has a longer battery life :o and I am working faster. My point is, what other hotkeys are there (for most programs, they seem to share the same ones for the same/similar functions, thats what I am talking about)?

For those that may not know, I will list of what I know (off the top of my head)

Control+Alt+Delete - the infamous key combo seconds before the bashing on the keyboard (Starts Task Manager)
Alt+F4 - close the current window
Start key+E - open My Computer/Windows Explorer
Control+T - TABS! Open a new tab in your web browser
Control W - close the current window/current tab in web browser (and some other apps, ex Pidgin)
Start+R - Run! (your program or command)
Backspace - go back a page/up a level
Insert - in word documents, overwrite text after the current letter by hitting insert and typing your text. Hit insert again when done to toggle off.
Delete - delete a file/folder/etc and delete characters after the current cursor line thingy...
Start key+Tab (Vista only, AERO required) - Vista's "Windows Flip 3D" version of Alt-Tab
Alt+Tab - view and switch to different running apps by holding alt and tapping tab
Control+O - open a file
Control+S - save a file
Control+F - find
Control+H - find & replace
Control+X - cut
Control+C - copy
Control+V - paste
Scroll Lock+X - Xfire In-Game Chat

I am sure I missed a lot, but this is (supposed to be) a learning thread, and I am sure that I at least helped someone learn a new hotkey (I hope...) :)

Please list any others that you know of!

AOL has stopped its Active Virus Shield service (it is now "McAfee SecurityCenter provided by AOL")...a couple days ago I went to try it and now McAfee hosts it...and its crap IMO (not that is wasn't before, but now its worse)

Not sure if you can jury-rig it or not, but if you can, go for it! The McAfee stuff dropped my computer performance to about 30-40% of what it should be, so hold out as long as you can!

However, PortableApps (http://www.portableapps.com) doesn't offer Star Office (not open source, as I can tell). :) I use my thumb drive at school and other locations with other computers so I use my PortableApps drive constantly, and I need to be able to take my stuff with me when I can't install programs to the computer itself.

Just my reason for sticking to OpenOffice

By visiting their site, you agree to their advertisements. Most sites offer a subscription for ad free viewing, if you truly like the site, you will let the ads show. I do it on sites I support. If DC had a way to force ads to show for charter members, I would enable it. This is why I like ad muncher, I can support sites I like and find useful. Its only right that a site I use all the time get some sort of recoupement for my constant usage.
True, and very interesting point. But I cannot afford $5 a year here, $15 a year here, $2.50 a month here, and so on. It adds up. And besides, the first time I visit a site that I might like (and want to subscribe too) its a pain in the *** to go around the 15 different flash banners making my computer look like the NASA space station just to get to a link (that often times turns out to be an ad).
1283
I have been using AdBlock Plus since I got into FF addons a few months ago. Best ad blocker ever.
Next thing we'll hear is sites either blocking Firefox, or blocking those users with the installed extension (so far, I think there's no way to query the extensions used by Firefox).
People running those sites can then say bye-bye to my traffic and any activity I may or may not have had there. It's my computer, and if you have a problem with it, thats too bad. (Isn't that also an intrusion of not only your computer, but your privacy as well? :-\)

EDIT: The irony- I just finished reading the article, and re-read the 2 last sentences, "Microsoft kows that ad blockers pose a far greater threat to Google than to itself. As they say: The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Directly under that is an ad...
For Google AdWords

IMO Big = good, and it looks kinda cool on 1024x768, but I may bump it down. Still a change for the better, as small as they are (not) :P.

Update:

Maze Craze is being actively developed once again :D

Expect it to continue to be until the 50 levels goal is reached (minimum), more likely after some other goals are reached (no details yet, only plans- plans change, unfortunately)

Although, one thing is certain...
You may want to point your browser to the updated website and have a look at the new graphics ;)

OK, I have been continuously crushing code for the last few days, creating, finding, fixing bugs, adding features, testing over and over and over and OVER, and making compiled exes, finding that they don't work, and making completed installers to find that the programs don't work... ;D

EDIT: I had a changelog here but Safari for Windows (Beta 3) tossed it, and it took me about 30 minutes to write, so I am not going to type it again (time I don't have, unfortunately). Sorry- just know its a lot of changes ;D

Here is what I am going to do (things will get marked off as they are completed):

- Switching Registry cleaner to Abexo (unless someone has a complaint about it, I have no reason not to change it)

- Leave EasyOpen (from the Top 3 programs you use thread) alone. I will include the AHK code so you can edit as you please, but it was too overwelming to sort through it all, and I doubt many would use just those exact apps anyways, so a waste of my time and a waste of disk space for many, IMO it is better that way.

- Ensure everything works - this is a top priority for me, I don't want to have any bugs anywhere.

- Include CCleaner 2.0!

- Add links to donate to Walt (Loki15) who has been helping me out. (Donate links for me have always been in all program tray menus)

- Add UAC disabler

- Try to fix WinFix

- Misc changes

Input is always requested!

Dual booting would be my personal preference, but if I could make it a vitrual machine, that would be even better.

If Apple has a problem with me doing so I have no problem with simply sticking with Windows :)

I just installed Quicktime about 30 mins before taking that picture though ;D

I want to take a Windows Vista PC and dual boot it with Mac, not run Windows on Parallels. I can't afford a Mac anytime soon ($1500 vs my $700 PC).

Anyways, why Vista Ultimate? I am helping a family friend get Vista Home Basic running on Parallels, and I didn't see any requirement for Vista Ultimate. :-\ :tellme:

Living Room / Mac OS X Leopard - All show and no go, or is it worth a try?
« Last post by wreckedcarzz on September 03, 2007, 02:24 AM »
Hi all,

I was able to have a semi-positive (more or less confusing) experience with a Macbook G4 running Tiger a few days ago, and about 2 months ago I was also on a Panther iMac. With the upcoming release of Leopard, I must ask:

Is it worth a go?

I am a die-hard Windows fan. Linux is cool, and has its pros and cons, but I am an Apple hater. But, to be honest, I am interested. I have been using iTunes for the last year and also have been using Safari, and as much as I hate to say it, I am impressed.

Is it worth it to setup a dual-boot Windows-Mac computer? Any Mac-savvy people here at DC (come out, we know your here :P)?

I have been wanting to try it full-on for a while now, just the single button mouse thing gets to me ;D

Opinions, anyone?

EDIT: This doesn't inspire confidence, though...(see attached screenshot)

I just tried it, I love it. Just another reason to go Windows.

General Software Discussion / Re: Stay Away From Microsoft VISTA
« Last post by wreckedcarzz on September 02, 2007, 10:48 AM »
Now I am not a knee-jerk Microsoft hater.  Personally i have a deep distrust and dislike for Apple and their marketing-scam-driven design methodology
XP Pro is a fine operating system.

By far the worst thing is all this bullshit braindead User Access Control and the entire support system around it that is designed to improve security but instead winds up making using the operating system like living with the most annoying roomate you ever had in college.
I agree with all of that

But for me by far the most evil, harmfull, idiotic thing MS Vista does is with regards to the "Virtualization" approach to keeping old programs compatible.  Basically to solve compatibility problems with programs whose authors were stupid enough to use Microsoft's genius Registry System (another horribly stupid idea with everlasting negative reprecussions) or dares to create files in ITS OWN DIRECTORY, Vista tries to help these programs by creating secret hidden copies of the files they create, which neither users nor the programs will ever be able to find.  Best yet, it tricks the programs into thinking these files are in different locations.  Oh want more?  Ok, there can be multiple copies of these files, one in the original directory (which are now unbeknownst to the program unwritable) and then another copy in the secret directory.  Oh users with admin privileges will see the files in the normal directory, others get the secret hidden shadow copies.  Now watch the fun when users think they are working with one file but are really working with another.  More fun: If a program deletes the file -- guess what? it's still there? no it's not, its the other older shadow copy!  Please shoot the person at microsoft who thought this was a good idea.
What the hell is that about?!?! I agree, shoot the idiot!

Now when I am running something in Compatibility Mode I need to remember to punch someone at Microsoft in the face when my new file that I just saved gets overwritten.

(And I love Vista, 100%. For now, anyways.)

Living Room / DRM in Vista is getting on my nerves...anyone else's, too?
« Last post by wreckedcarzz on September 02, 2007, 09:43 AM »
I have been enjoying using WMP 11 in Vista for the last few days. I love the AERO :). But when I get my CPU fan starts acting like something is on fire in my computer, and I open Task Manager and see like 4 new processes eating my resources faster then I can read, there is a problem. (and all of them have something like "Windows Media Player protected mp3 service scanner" or some long thing that requires you to drag Task Manager to a width of almost the whole screen to read)

But I have been coping, I pause it and wait for it calm down then I resume with no problem. Except I just booted up today, and for some reason WMP now makes my little orb-circling-loading mouse cursor go nuts, making a 25% circle, then snapping back, in an infinite loop. When I close WMP 11, it gets less occurring, and when I close my Music folder, all is well.

Right now I am enjoying MPlayer Portable, no DRM and no problems. Has anyone else had issues with DRM?

Alright, its been a long week. And I mean long. Gosh I am tired...

Anyways, I have uploaded the latest version, it has a couple changes, couple program combinations, few name changes, etc. Not much major. SimpleOpen is still dead, and to be completely honest, I haven't had time/energy to search, download, install, find default install folder & main program exe, set it, save the script, close the program, uninstall it, and repeat that 15 times. It will be updated soon, just after I sleep for about 48 hours to get my brain back from the road 3 miles ago ;D.

I am waiting, killing time basically with these releases. CCleaner is (as far as I can tell) almost done :) so the final version will be ready soon (hopefully). Curt was nice enough to send me an e-mail with feedback, so I will be working on that as well.

Enough talking, more downloading...

EDIT:  :o Wow...7 pages...

Option 1 (I do this often): Sandboxie! Test out the stuff before installing it and regretting it later.

Option 2 (I do this automatically): SyncBack + an old crappy HDD = easy, daily backups and an instantly wipeable PC! :)

Option 3 (I did this): Go to Vista (IMO in a few months after SP1) and mostly everything fixes itself (its kinda wierd...)

Thats what I do, and don't have problems at all with software testing (and if I do, backup, wipe, install, restore in about 2 hours max).
1297
First of all, Windows Live should NOT require you to login or register  as I have tried it and it doesn't ask me, however it is a beta program, so

I get this cursed behaviour with Notepad dialogues of all things. I have not yet figured out what is going on, but it first requires me to click "cancel" on a number of requests to log into a webdav folder from work and then switches to two requests to log into Live. I'd love to figure out why this is so as well. As I never use notepad (EditPad Pro and ultraedit for me!), I've never followed up very diligently. Perhaps I will now...
Its all a big plan, run my Mr. Gates himself. Were all doomed ;D
1298
Wow; 9.6 MB - this new baby sure is "not tiny"! However, the first time I clicked this link I was taken to Windows Live which required me to tell when I was born and where I live, so it should not come as a surprise if someone will cancel the download, leaving you with fewer testers...

-

I have been puzzled by the buttons EasyChat and EasyHold, and more, but so far I have refused to push those buttons, because I know no programs with such names. Now I see that your new DC signature is linking to those programs, but maybe you should tell a little here about these apps? Edit: I for one will never follow a link unless some text first made me interested.
Hi Curt, let me clear up some stuff...

First of all, Windows Live should NOT require you to login or register :o as I have tried it and it doesn't ask me, however it is a beta program, so :-\

I am aware of the...size of the file. Unfortunately. I can't really make it smaller, I have been pushing that point for a while, but it is a lot smaller then installing all the programs individually, so it is an improvement, nonetheless.

The buttons, ahh, buttons. Very shiny. ;D
Ill give a quick overview of the new programs that are now included in the "package" program idea...
(this is from the newest version to be released in the next couple days, but I am trying to explain the current version's buttons also):

EasyChat (named EasyChat n Clear in latest build) - this is my little app for making and saving custom text for later automatic typing. Open, click the key (F2-F12) button you want to assign the text to, type away, and click Apply. Then hit the key at any time and see your text entered instantly. :)

EasyHold (now part of SimpleOpen in latest build) - this was a request in my "Computer jokeware..." topic. Start the program, type a popular drink (including Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, beer :o ;D and a couple more) and watch your computer make a cup holder for you!

IM Clear (now a part of EasyChat n Clear in the latest build) - Clears instant message/chat session text from prying eyes. Mainly for teenagers like me who have folks that are a little too nozy at times. ;)

SimpleStart (named SimpleOpen in latest build) - my little FARR alternative/basic app launcher/system manager (includes options to open/close disk drives, check free space, turn up/down or mute volume, open My Computer, open Recycle Bin, open Control panel, and more. Its a complex yet simple program, driven by its tray menu (includes a basic GUI, as well).

WinFix - my Dr. Windows replacment. (Don't use it yet.) It works the exact same way as Dr. Windows, and has many of the same/similar "errors". Has a code bug that keeps the errors from coming up (except the "could not open file or document" error :P)

The TinyUrl.com links are to the pages explaining the programs, not direct downloads. They all point to various pages on my site (http://www.incredisims.com/).

All the programs, except WinFix, work flawlessly (knock on wood). I have had a couple little problems with them, but just because of Spyware Terminator's realtime shield and Vista's UAC. Nothing caused by my end of it.

Hope I helped out, I may change the link so its not some annoying register stuff >:(

Its just the top 5 (ideally) most popular. It's more of a notification then a poll, but thats how its setup.

Anyone downloaded? Any feedback?

I am going to upload one final (Release Canidate) version in the next day or two, I have combined EasyHold and SimpleStart (now SimpleOpen) and EasyChat and EasyClear (that was IM Clear) to make EasyChat n Clear (I hate the name, hopefully I will come up with something less crummy, and fast).

A couple misc changes, and SimpleOpen will have the user-decided list of programs (see here: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=9503.0) once I download, install, find, and input the default paths...

I am looking for complaints, anything...anything at all...I haven't gotten everything in yet so I would like to get things changed before I set stuff in stone.

I will post again with a link in the next day or so. :)
