what a nice little adventure.

(the ribbon was a gift from mouser i believe - BC was wearing it when he arrived at my place after leaving mouser.)

i've just watched the videos/tutorials. looks like a great program, some nice features presented in a really intuitive way.

going to try it now.

Living Room / top secret: tech support cheat sheet (xkcd)
« Last post by nudone on August 24, 2009, 03:20 AM »
xkcd finally lets the cat out of the bag and makes everyone an expert in the process.

(i can think of a few people i could give the chart to - but i'd have to staple it to their face so that they don't lose it.)

is that p3lb0x before he needed a robotic right hand?

thanks for sharing, Joto. your predicament is very humbling.

*cough* RAID-1 *cough*

or use MirrorFolder if nothing else - which offers more choice (being able to select specific folders).
1283
interesting.

have you been living like this for a while or are we the Guinea pigs?

(are you also living under a kind of quantum dualistic state whilst you remain constantly awake and yet you must also be sleeping - sometimes?)
1284
marvelous. i wondered if BC could fly and now you have the photographs to prove it. (when he was visiting me, he refused to walk let alone fly. i wonder what else he can do that we've not seen so far.)

looks like he's having a great time in yorkshire.

General Software Discussion / Re: MonsterCart
« Last post by nudone on August 05, 2009, 09:26 AM »
i've not tried magento but the templates certainly look more modern than zen carts - out of the box, at least.

there has been a recent zen cart security patch for the admin side of things - does that count as an update? (probably not much.)

customising zen cart so that it doesn't look like something from 1995 is quite a horrible activity. i think 50% of the backend needs chucking out; the template system was obviously created by a team of crazed masochists.

so, from that, i'd have to conclude that magento is easier to work with than zen cart - could be wrong though.

- if the icon is what I think it is, it means "you have no firewall", or "you have de-activated UAC" or "no update scheme", etcetera, you pick your choice.

hmm, not sure what it is - i've logged off/on and the icon hasn't appeared again.

sorry, Josh, just manage to get rid of the icon without rebooting so can't answer your question now.

still not entirely sure what's going on but this is what i did...

killed "taskeng.exe" that didn't have any description associated with it in process explorer. there is also a "taskeng.exe" still running with the description you'd expect to see "Task Scheduler Engine".

as i'm writing this "taskeng.exe" without a description has now loaded itself back in - no icon has appeared in the system tray this time though.

i wonder what it is? i'll just forget about it unless someone thinks it's likely to be dodgy.

yeah, heheh. systinternals process explorer is the same one you mention. can't see anything in the list though that refers to the tray icon that's running.

maybe i'll just have to kill everything until the icon goes...

How about right clicking? Do you have automatic updates on?

this is why it's so weird; double click, right click, hover cursor - none seem to do anything. the quality of the icon doesn't look very good either so that makes me suspicious of it - it's like it's trying to look like the default windows warning icon but failing to get it quite right.

(i've got automatic updates on but i'm sure the icon looks better for that - plus it provides information when hovering over it.)

i've not had my pc on for about 3 days and i'm sure i didn't download anything the last time i used it...

...today i turn it on and there's an ugly looking exclamation "warning" kind of icon in the system tray and i've no idea what it is and where it has come from - hovering over it doesn't reveal any information - shutting down other stuff doesn't remove it. i can't even identify what it is using sysinternals process explorer.

if it was something nasty then why even bother to show itself?

any ideas what it might be or best way to identify what it is?

this is what it looks like - the orange triangle icon...

I'd hate to see the back of Nudone's shirt after that final shot!    ;)

heheh. no worries. i think mouser must have made sure Baby Cody was house trained before sending him on his travels.

Adventures of Baby Cody / Baby Cody gets bored with nudone
« Last post by nudone on July 31, 2009, 06:39 AM »
Baby Cody has finally become bored with me. i'd promised we'd go searching for big Cody but the typical British summer has meant rain stopped play.

i managed to grab a few quick snaps of BC today whilst i was at the computer. you can see that BC has quite a short attention span so be warned when he visits you.

BC snooping on my web reading.
01-monitor-perch.JPG

BC bored after about 3 seconds.
02-monitor-bored.JPG

BC confusing a usb cable with a worm - maybe he prefers them.
03-usb-worm.jpg

BC looking for details of Cody's location - nothing found. Seems Cody isn't so easy to find.
04-drawer-search.JPG

BC perplexed by a taxidermy bird and Intel Bunnyman rider. Asks "where's Cody?". No reply.
05-looking-at-bird.jpg

BC trying to hatch a large egg. (Don't tell Baby Cody it was a skull - i think he'd freak-out.)
06-skulls.JPG

Me and Baby Cody (look at the mess - that's all BC's fault. honest).
07-shoulder-shot.jpg

so that was a brief visit. wish there could haven been more excitement for BC - maybe he'll visit again one day. next stop is Carol's. I'm sure he'll have an adventure when he gets there...

Cute story, but I doubt that's what they think, since dogs can see very well during nighttime.

I think the author of the article did more anthropomorphizing of the dog when he decided that's what the dog was thinking than when he thought the dog would have difficulty adapting.

good point. i thought that myself after i'd posted my comment.
1296
"It's nighttime always now. Huh. How about that."  what a brilliant way of putting it. something we could all learn from i think.

I'm still not sure why the flag was apparently blowing in the wind in some shots ;)
-Carol Haynes (July 20, 2009, 06:40 AM)

isn't that because of the moon wind?

(i know the reason.)
