I don't know the answer to your question. But I have always found the TextAloud people to be super responsive to questions and problems.

BTW: You're right! The proofreading feature in TextAloud is incredibly useful. It's amazing how many contextual errors one can make that don't trip the spell checker.

I agree with most responders: TextAloud with add-in voices (read $$$) is excellent. I've been using it for years - used to have it read to me daily while driving 18 wheelers (email, news feeds, books etc.). It will also make MP3's of text for you to take away, eg. jogging, in the car and such like.

Now, if I could have only found a voice recognition package which could tolerate the varying background noise in the truck I'd have got even more done going down the road!

I seem to have a setup and problem similar to what you had.
I had the same problem with Win-E shortcut and also blamed QTTabBar, but it appeared that the culprit was the recent video driver suite (Catalyst by ATI). After painful uninstall/reinstall procedure of Catalyst everything works again, including QTTabBar. It's necessary to reboot after its installation, though.

Could you elaborate on the "painful" part? I'd like to fix it but it's not such a big problem as to screw everything else up. I have enough problems without creating more for myself!

What's the "it" that you saw??

My problem is finding something that will put a jpg screen saver across two monitors. Ryan at Digital Blasphemy makes tons of nifty wall papers and offers them in multi monitor configurations. But they rely upon using the tile setting on the Desktop settings. I hardly ever see my wallpaper as I have stuff running all the time. But I'd love to have some of his and other's lovely images across my monitors to enjoy for a minute when I return to my desk.

No one breaks that law in NJ so far as I know. It's a 'make work' thing for (otherwise unemployable) gas attendants. They would come down on you like a ton of bricks if you tried to pump your own. A fate far more serious than dealing with local law enforcement!!

Your request seems 'off-topic'. Nevertheless:

Suggestion 1 - Find one of the many key mapper utilities and remap the Insert key to something less of a problem for you.

Suggestion 2 - Use a key logger. Despite their nasty reputation (when used by bad guys) they can be very handy when your problem occurs or you have a crash in the middle of important work. I have one running all the time. It has saved my bacon on several occasions.

Suggestion 3 - Go out and buy a book and teach yourself to touch type. It's amazingly easy to accomplish. Two weeks of two 15 minutes practice sessions a day and you off and running. Then you will be looking at the screen as you type (instead of the keyboard) and see your error immediately.

I think that this is going to be really useful for me. I appreciate all of your effort. Hope that JennyB is as happy with it as I.

One small point: just about all of my "To-Do's" have a time of day attached and I'm a died-in-the-wool 24 hour clock guy. It would be handy to not have to put a colon in the time to make it work.

BTW: It's handy that a fraction of a day works, too e.g. 1.5 days!

I'm now getting only days and seconds in the countdown/up.   :'(  No hours or minutes.

Understood on reschedule of past due. But I, too, like the count up as I'm usually late on everything. Due in no small part to having similar habits to JennyB (surfing for two hours before getting down to what I'm supposed to be doing)!

Ref: Saving - I think that auto save with every entry would be the safest and easiest thing if you can do it. I love processes that help protect me from my worst enemy ... ME!

Again with rescheduling and alarms - I take your (and JennyB's) point. It might be an over kill.

It seems to me, though, that the times that you would NOT want to do some small edit of the folder name are very few. I would favor having it go directly to the rename box by default and do away with the shift key altogether. If you didn't want to make a change you're already a lot of clicks and keystrokes ahead of the game and could simply hit the OK button.

Having said that, since the whole point and value of your app is streamlining the process, how about having it deliver you right to the new folder after hitting OK? Almost always, after downloading and saving a file, you'll want to open it, unzip it or whatever and this would be a further advantage.   8)

Hi Ralf and thanks for your nifty little application. One problem and (at least) one suggestion:
1. In my trial, the countdown timer is reading one hour too many although the count up from past due is OK.

2. It would be handy if it could minimize to the Task Bar instead of only being able to minimize or close.

3. Incorporating a pop-up alarm of some kind might be a fun thing.

BTW: It seems to save on close. So what's the need/purpose of the "Save" button?
BTW2: A cool icon would be fun, too. DC member "ak_" seems to have a flair for this. See his File Nanny submission.

But I really don't see much need for this. FF is one of those apps which I load once and it keeps running always. I wish the devs would fix the huge memory leaks in FF, its the only reason I ever restart FF (that and adding an AddOn).

My practice is the same, MrCrispy. As such I find there's a very useful feature in the Update Notifier Add-On (in itself a real time saver!) labeled 'Restart Firefox ...". I'll often hit that when I leaving my desk for a few minutes and it's done the job by the time I return.

Neat on removing the close button, nosh. I'll bite. How did you do it?

I'd like to be given the opportunity to edit the new folder name before it's processed so that I could, e.g. change "Filenanny.zip" to "File Nanny" for the folder name.

Wreckedcarzz: Thanks a squillion for doing that for me. I appreciate the effort. Unfortunately, as Cpilot says, it doesn't work. I've tried it on three machines (2x XP Home and 1x XP Pro) and the light activity bears little if any resemblance to the HDD light on the tower. Worse, it screws up the function of the other lights.

I presently trying FloadLED on one machine and it seems to be working fine. Will give DriveGLEAM a try, too.
