>Ah, the good life!
 ;D

It's great! I recently sent back a bad memory stick to future shop, and got a knew one that's 2x the price. Hehe. Ah... the goods of life...

I'm delighted too. Thanks ak_ !

Python, he...  :)
And how's python on windows?
1229
Thanks everybody.  :)

No idea what causes it.

@cmpm : Yes, it seems a bit like a "lo-fi" version of the page, but not exactly (from what I saw, lo-fi seems closer to "No style" -- the image I attaches is almost identical to the original website, just without fills, borders, etc.)...  I don't think that there's any lo-fi version for this website (DC) anyhow -- or is there one?

@Gothic : nope, I'm not using FF3... Just plain 2.0.0.13

Right now, after restarting firefox (and clearing the personal stuff) everything is OK, and it will probably be for a few hours, or a few days. So I'll have to wait for the phenomenon to happen again before I try the "safe mode" experiment or other tricks. It's not a huge problem anyways, just annoying to not know why it's doing that and won't stop doing it unless I restart firefox etc.

Perfect. Thanks a lot Lanux. You don't have to do more work.  :) I'll see what I can do with that.
1231
Thanks Lanux.  :)

No, I haven't installed any extensions recently. And I also tried the "No style/Basic Page" thing before, but what I'm seeing is different than "no style". It's a bit like if the html code was not interpreted correctly or some stuff not downloaded properly (no textures, frames, background colors...) . And, strangely enough, it only happens with DC.  :tellme: It goes away if I close and clear my "private data" and restarts firefox. But it will come back eventually -- I haven't been able to pinpoint when exactly though.
1232
Anybody experiences that sometimes ? It only happens in firefox, not opera or ie. Seems like a Firefox bug, but can't nail it down.
1233
Hi Lanux. I just bumped on that thread, looking for an easy way to close/start a bunch of apps. Your little AHK script seems like it should do fine. But I'm struggling to find the windows class names. How can I find them ? Thanks.  :)

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Moving selected files to date based folders

I see. Yes, this is how I do it too -- but for backup or archiving on external media only. Otherwise I don't bother. A good  naming scheme and desktop search software are my friends as far as my internal hard drive is concerned.  :)

Is it always slow, or only periodically ?

I'm curious : there are probably many uses for such a utility, but why will you (personally) want to move files to date "based" (identified?) folders? For archiving purpose I guess?

General Software Discussion / Re: Evaluate Server 2008 Enterprise for 240 days

(Installing a server OS as a workstation is not for me, but... aren't people aloud to experiment? Didn't you, ahem, install slackware recently... Complexity for the sake of itself spinning out of control? And, well if the 240 days are too long of a trial, well it's not anybody's fault, it's MS's. It's not piracy AFAIC. Or is it? Sheesh.)

Very cool. I'm going to have to try that now...

I use Outlook 2003 + Keysuite (by Chapura -- a bit expensive, but worth it IMO... There's also the less expensive pocket mirror ). Keysuite is my favorite palm software for syncing with Outlook. All the others I tried (2-3 years ago) even if they had impressive features had drawbacks and quirks when it came to perfect synchronization (like syncing events colors, recurrences etc.). I came to the conclusion that I don't want to much differences between the data in my palm and the data in my computer, and that's why I chose Keysuite.

I don't sync my email, so I can't say anything about that. But the most reputable are Versamail (which ships with the Treo?), ChatterEmail and SnapperMail, I think. ChatterEmail seems very good.

You could read that :

If the remote PC is stable as a rock and really secured, I guess that would indeed be an ideal  solution -- well, for me at least.

General Software Discussion / Re: SQLNotes...what is it exactly?
« Last post by Armando on April 04, 2008, 08:31 PM »
Thanks Pierre!  (But hey, tututut! you shouldn't bother while you're on holidays!  :) )

I ended up trying a solution similar to the one you suggested. The main obstacle with this solution -- otherwise very elegant! -- is that every time  I change the  structure under one item, I have to manually change the structure under all other items. So that means that I really have to think about the main hierarchy under each student-item before committing to anything if I don't want to end up moving and editing subitems over and over. Overall though, I must say that SQLNotes is a pleasure to use in a classroom context! All the filters become incredibly useful and allow a lot of different data presentations. I can't wait for the calendar and the gantt charts to do all my project management in there.

(PS : I could eventually share my grid template for the student marking, etc.)

Ok. I think I'm finally going to opt for solution #2 (enter tests and other evaluation types as subitems of the students items). Seems like the most convenient way to do it after all. The only problem is the replicating or modification of subitems under all items-students. The copy/paste feature makes it a bit cumbersome as it is now.

I need some suggestions. I do have some ideas, but I'd like to know how you (SQLNotes users) would do it. Here are the elements that I have to organize... pretty basic).

1) 21 students, identified by their names (mostly) and other caracteristics (I'll create special fields for that)
2) Around 60 different tests, evaluations, papers, etc. (will be marked using letters or numbers)

(Each student is of course evaluated for each test, paper etc.)

My problem is that... 1-Well it's a LOT of fields if I treat tests as fields, 2- and some fields should actually be "sub-fields", but it's not possible to do that... at least now... 3- Using fields would also be fairly limiting in terms of how much info I could enter for each test field (hard to insert comments of any sort, if I'm using numbers as my grades)

And if I enter tests and other evaluation types as subitems of the students items, 1- it would look nice and I could create hierarchies of tests depending on the different themes, etc. (french, math, geography...) 2- it would allow me to put more than just an evaluation for each test (since I could use the HTML pane  to write some comments for each test), 3-  but it'd become kind of awkward to manage because I'd have to copy all the different tests subitems in each "student item" repeatedly to keep the structure uniform (ie : all students are marked for the same tests and criteria). 4- Also, using this way, it would be harder to see all student marks at once for one specific test since that specific test would in fact be... many different subitems (even if they share the same name...) -- possible though, with filters.

Opinions ?

PS : IMO, one feature that could be useful would be to be able to reverse the items/fields axis.... But maybe that's already possible?

So I guess I'm left with the tests/marks as fields... But I wonder how to do that elegantly... I could also use excell, but I  feel that SQLNotes will probably allow for better searching and filtering. What do you think?

They are good forums but remember most people only go there when they have problems to solve.

About acronis ive seen the infinite numbers of posts of unsatisfied customers on wilders so i dare not go near it for now. Besides i think ill need a burner for that. Tools such as fd-isr and rollback rx are much to expensive for me.

If you're affraid of acronis, there are other great imaging software, like the VERY reliable Image for Windows (39$) or BootIt NG (same company). Some members here (like Zaine) used to swear by it.

Im looking into syncback free right now. I might just install that at my next reinstall. If for some reason or an other i won't turn out positive i might get into shadowing software. I just hope SBF will be easy enough to handle and reliable in the end.

For full system backup (and eventually incremental), I wouldn't use something like syncback. It will be a lenghty process, and I'm pretty sure you'll run into problems trying to copy in used system files.

EDIT : but if you're using XP, I'd probably try to grab a cheap copy of Acronis True Image 9 (ebay). That's what I'm using and I NEVER encountered a single problem, and I've used it many many times. my 2c.
