my solution: (on vista) i use MirrorFolder http://www.techsoftpl.com/backup/ and set it to do real-time mirrors of data and config files to another internal hard drive. all these "mirrored" files 'n' folders are then "backed-up" to yet another internal drive (which MirrorFolder also does for me).

it's not a freeware solution but i think the software is more than worth it ($39.00) for what it does. i know that my important stuff is always saved and duplicated - and i don't have to ever think about it as it's all done in realtime (except for the backup process).

i'll be using MirrorFolder when i start to use Windows 7. it makes the problem of file/folder locations trivial as it will mirror whichever you want to another hard drive (or even the same drive if you like).

it's not that bad here, Derbyshire, UK. the roads are pretty normal and clear anyway.

(heheheh.)

Perhaps there could be a set of "special" cafepress items that are given out as gifts (with high prices), and then another set of fairly priced items for those of us wanting to "brand-up" with the DC badge.

(i'm not into fussy graphics on my garments (to be honest) so my favourite DC shirt is a black one with the words "DONATIONCODER.COM" on the front - nothing else. i'd actually be happy to design a few "proper" t-shirts if mouser wishes it, i.e. simple graphics and colours - things like the main DC logo text, etc.)

edit.
I see Carol has just posted the same suggestion.

I checked, and I have that disabled already.

But as long as it's only me, and donationcoder isn't hacked or anything, I can deal w/ the problem.

okay, sorry to hear that then. not sure what else to suggest trying.

sounds like you've got this ssl setting enabled (see screengrab).

if so, just disable the "Use SSL 2.0" and you should be okay.

i've had a look through fujitsu's downloadable pdfs called "recovery process". none mention the required information from what i can see.

plenty of stuff about sticking disks into the drive and booting from them - which isn't very helpful.

this is the helpful information found in the manual..

"Restoring the operating system, drivers, manuals and special software
You can find information on how to restore the operating system, drivers, manuals
and special software in the "Recovery Process" manual."

of course, the question is, why haven't they put the "recovery process" manual on the hard drive with the "normal" manual. i'll see if i can find it online - maybe it exists somewhere out there in the ether.

the machine is now restored anyway. the first factory reset was taking a long time because it wasn't doing anything - that was a great time waster. thanks fujitsu.

i'm still not sure what happened. i tried to reinstall vista - which simply brought up the factory reset options when rebooting. i'm not even going to try and figure out what's going on as it's working - that's all that counts.

Living Room / fujitsu - why hide away the factory reset button?
« Last post by nudone on December 16, 2009, 05:32 AM »
no doubt this is common knowledge with the world playing a cruel trick on me so that i never find out...

i needed to factory reset a fujitsu siemens notebook (amilo li 3710). vista is loading to a black screen with mouse cursor and that's all. i've read around the net for solutions and my conclusion is: i haven't got time to test every possible "solution". hence, factory reset is my friend.

the problem is, i've no idea how to start the process when booting up - there's no indication of what keys to press other than F2 for bios and F12 for boot order.

the weird thing is - i accidently got the factory reset menu to appear so i'm now waiting for the reset to finish its job. i really have no idea how it come on - i only pressed the F12 key again liked i'd done several times already but this time it skipped the boot order menu.

what's annoying is that i can't find any sensible info online about what keys to press. am i suffering from selective search blindness?

is anyone familiar with a fujitus amilo notebook and how factory reset is initiated while booting - maybe it involves holding down the F12 key whilst booting????????

thanks if you can help.

(i'm not convinced this factory reset is actually working - seems to be taking a very long time.)

nice program. i like the duplicate file feature and how it presents the results for that.

i'm thinking Networx is probably the one i'll stick with too - because of the taskbar graph feature.

this should be really easy but i can't find anything - or remember anything - but can anyone recommend a system tray util that will display network activity? please.

i'm sure i had something years ago that did - no idea what it was now - maybe it was zone alarm.

any ideas, preferably free.

oh, it's for vista.
1245
would be nice of an open source project managed to complete the task.

What's the Best? / Re: good and free spelll checker
« Last post by nudone on November 30, 2009, 11:13 AM »
i've tried a few spell checker utils in the past and uninstalled them after a short while (can't remember what they were now).

i've just tried TinySpell and it works brilliantly. I'm just testing it out with the free version (which is probably enough for me) but i think i'll pay for the full version if i decide to keep using it.

thanks for mentioning it, tomos.

oh dear. sorry for your loss, but thanks for letting us know. very easy for us lot to use credit cards online without ever giving it a moments thought.

potential for some new scams there perhaps - create a company, sell online, charge your foreign buyers twice (or more) the published charge. it's obviously a perfectly legimate way of doing business these days.
