Find And Run Robot / Re: Is it possible to add custom Farrs to Farr toolbar?
« Last post by kartal on May 18, 2008, 04:46 PM »
no they do not run seperate farr, they just run within current farr. So One is pkill (process kill), I click on it it runs pkill plugin by putting pkill in the search tab. I guess I just have found a new way to use farr? :)

Multiple F icons are my special alias, I just added them to toolbar so that I do not need to type everytime I need them.

is this a feature i don't know about? what exactly did you manage to accomplish?

Supposedly v3 will take care of many memory leaks

I think that searching for pornography is a dirty cover up trick to search everyone`s computer. The amount of data they can gather about citizens through such disgusting practices are huge.

If they are looking for predators they should be going after american catholic churches, you know many of their priests already admitted sexually abusing young boys. These laws are way to flex goverment muscle.

http://vue.uit.tufts.edu/index.cfm  there is also Vue. Very nice software, I think this one is between mind mapping and concept mapping

I do not think anyone mentioned this one before but I used it before it has some interesting ideas implemented as a note taking software

multimedia support (image, movie, sound)
file drag and drop operations (as nodes and content)
automatic thumbnail creation of images and movies
rss and html support per node
import and export for common formats
preliminary internal drawing tool (vector or bitmap)
ability to reference nodes from other project files
internal calendar
customization
custom color schemes from center node to braches (like gradient)
speed and small memory print :)

I have more ideas but these are the main things I d onto see many softwares support

what features would you like to see in it?
1233
I think powerpro can do that. You can either create the dock in power pro, or you can just create mouse controls for screen edgers(it has very extended controls) to send some shortcuts

Find And Run Robot / Is it possible to add custom Farrs to Farr toolbar?
« Last post by kartal on May 17, 2008, 05:18 PM »
I want to add pkill, timer etc plugins to Farr toolbar. So if I click on the icon pkill it will put pkill to farr edit box automatically thus I would not need to type pkill all the time. I know I can set a shortcut but It is overkill to waste shortcuts for all the plugins. Would there be some kind of commandline optionto invoke or call certain plugins from toolbar?

This works great especially when you create seperate hotkey(alt+tab naturally) with tab enabled by default. Amazing better than sucky windows default

pixelporter good point about installers. I myself hate installers, I prefer zipped executables as much as possible. One reason of system slow down is bloated registry

I have downloaded the FileBoss  trial version, It looks nice however I could not see any shortcuts customization. For me that is the biggest minus. Second I cannot find a way to change to thumbnails, or list etc.

BinderDundat, I feel exactly like you do about softwares. To me what makes software good is "thoughtfulness". If it is a well thought software user enjoys it. I find thoughtfulness in little details more enjoyable when I use a software. Little things that others do not have, little things that are embedded neatly into software environment. For example Farr has an embedded toolbar. This is such a simple idea but it becomes very powerful if you start using it. And it does not affect the rest of the functionality it rather enhances it.

Generally bad software overlooks usability and customization. Good software does not dictate but lets you enjoy the tools.

Nice tip Hamradio, but to be honest I am out of shortcuts on my keyboard :) I prefer it if it is more streamlined and tied to only one hotkey. That is what I like about Farr, I can even use it as toolbar without using another shortcut.
1243
I personally think that spending time more on extending commandline and argument passing would be better spent. Because most of these websites offer basic connection to tools like curl. I successfully sent twitter messages from Farr using curl. It is just an alias. But RTM could be little more daunting for novice Farr user because you may need to define multiple inputs.

that looks very creamy. Good job

Icons are coming soon to a Grid near you  :D
 (see attachment in previous post)
Two types:
  • Item icon, shown left of the item text. Can filter for a specific icon. Possibility to have it dynamically attributed (i.e. when a task is late, the icon automatically changes to a red exclamation mark, or when a number is negative, etc
  • Within the item text. Place bitmaps anywhere in the cell.

Users will be able to add icons, simply by adding icon and bitmap files in icon specific folders

Currently I made my own hack to grid system. What you need is
power pro  http://powerpro.webeddie.com/
winsplit http://reptils.free.fr/

What I did is that I assigned winsplit shortcuts to mouse and window titles with powerpro.
So if I middle click to right portion of any title bar my window moves, resizes(half of the screen size) and snaps to right side
So if I middle click to "minimize" my window moves, resizes(half of the screen size) and snaps to bottom of the screen
And I covered all the corners(left, top) etc this way. You do not need to use shortcuts or enable disable anything.

I thought this was a damn good hack and works beautifully. If anyone is interested I can give my powerpro and winsplit settings.

Also you can do this without winsplit in powerpro but I found this hack easier.

Mouser how easy would it be to make fc little easier to use? They way I am thinking is that we should not be needing any suffix to enter calculator. if someone starts typing 12 probably are going after some math. 12+24= should calculate the result without needing any alias in my opinion.

Or at least invoking the calc should be little more convenient. For example "`" can be a nice invoker rather than typing fc and space.

To confiscate someone`s property either physical or virtual, law enforcement should need court order. These kinds of laws should be universal laws. Goverments are using these gray areas like tborders to practice illegal activities. I just cannot believe that border agents can stop you and download whole content of your laptop to their system. It may be ok if border agent wants you to turn on your computer to make sure that it is not a cover up hoax device for dangerous content.

People who think that they are immune from such practices are wrong. I know many of us say if you are innocent why are you afraid of. I would call this such a naive understanding of powers of goverments and turbulances we are going through in today`s life. People, we are living in the future we just do not know about it. I am not saying that we should be paranoid, not at all. What I am saying that as long as there is no resistance to such inhumaine practices of goverments, goverments will push and ask for more. I would not be surprised if goverment would ask you to put security cameras that is connected to their servers in 5 years. It may sound something from future, but people are already installing cameras willingly. And our streets are full of cameras. Are we safer? Are we really safer? You know the answer everyone is living in fear so people who think that technology and forceful goverment practices are solution to these matters are dead wrong. What we need is better human beings which can be achieved only with better education and better society. Better technology and  more brutal law enforcement should not be our last hope for civilization.

I am referring this topic under slashdot, which is about laptops and border agents.
