Funny, serif 8 is a pdf publisher, yet it can't even read a pdf! And certainly if it won't read a pdf it can't edit it.

Strange....
1202
Since you are checking your options-

http://www.nitropdf....ssional/edit-pdf.htm

There is a lot in Nitro.

Sorry serif wasn't what it needed to be.
I'll look into it myself as well.
And see why you can't save as pdf.
Sounds stupid for a pdf program.

I'll post if i find something.
1203
You can mess around with pdfs using Infranview.

Ghostscript needs installed first though.
As far as I can tell in 5 minutes, annotating works fine.
But actual editing may not be possible. I don't know.
I haven't tried yet.
Infran will open a pdf with Ghostscript installed.
So it could be possible to edit.
Ghostscript-

http://sourceforge.n...mp;release_id=658337

Other then that it's a pdf printer or converter, to edit.
Then convert it to pdf, a lot of work.
For free pdf work anyway.

Here's Serif page plus 8 for free if it still works.

http://for-free-on-i...mercial-licence-key/

I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for, but free is worth a shot....
1204
Maybe set one up as a game controler.
Not sure if that would work.
But that would separate the two settings.
Wouldn't it?
Depends if windows can see it as a game controler.
1205
Maybe this can be set to do it.
If drag and drop = copy and paste.
It looks like it can do more as well.

If you have the space on your drive,
the pdfs could be copied to a new folder and use the copies to test it.

I downloaded it but haven't messed with it yet.
I do like the idea of it so far.

And you could still keep the other copies however you like.

General Software Discussion / Paragon Software Specials

http://www.ghacks.ne...re-special-editions/

I have to say these folks seem to be going all out to get you to try these.

I have tried 3 of them so far, and they do work.
Yeah i know they are not the full versions, but they do work.
I crashed my test machine and did a restore with their software and it did work.
Didn't crash it on purpose but I had a corrupted boot file,
can't remember which one. Could not get in to safe mode either.

Currently testing their beta system recover program-not on the list.
It makes a recovery partition like the others, called a 'capsule'.

Scheduling the number of backups and time frames are a little flexible.
Mine is set to one a week, one restore capacity. Or you can do one and leave it alone till you need it. Needs the recovery disk if you can't get the 'press f1 for recovery at startup, or you can't get into safemode or any other mode.

No drive letter unless you want to give it one.
Seems somewhat hidden like in the ones gHacks has listed work.
Hidden as in not looking like a standard drive or partition.

Easeus and Paragon's partition managers see it though.
It's not a fat or ntfs file system, something different.
Called a 'bc' backup capsule I suppose.

Only thing is, I don't believe my antivirus even knows it's there.
So that may be good or bad, I don't know.
Doesn't show up in 'My Computer'.

With Titan it was files as usual, this is different to me anyway.

Well that's the backup stuff.
The defrag takes a long time, as discussed before.
Still don't know the benefit of the low level stuff.
Which the backup does also, but doesn't take a day to do it.

I've been using these for 2 weeks, and learning.
So no long term experience with it.
But I like it. Just passing it on......

Yeah you could be right.
Googling 'quick tray' brings it right up.
Not hard to find.

A better free alternative.

# Linking to CMB Software

   1. Use of special links to the CMB Software web site: Using a specially formatted link, which includes a unique Affiliate ID that we provide you, you will provide a special link to a CMB Software page. You may add or delete links from your sponsoring Web site at any time without our approval.
   2. You can add or remove links at any time: You may select and link to additional pages, or remove such links, at any time and without our prior approval. However, you must use the correct special link format with the unique Affiliate in order to receive proper credit for your referrals.
   3. You must link directly to the CMB Software web site and receive commissions on any products sold from CMB Software during that session provided you use the unique Affiliate ID and the correct special link.

An attempt to make DC a sponsoring Web site for commissions.
Will the special links, which includes a unique Affiliate ID to the CMB Software appear?

I believe pdfs are designed to not be printed directly.
That's the point of this format.
It has to be converted or extract the text.
Then that file can be printed.

And yeah Bullzip is a pdf creator.
Sorry about that one.

Other pdf stuff....

General Software Discussion / Re: Mind Map-Concepts-Illustrate
« Last post by cmpm on April 30, 2009, 01:55 AM »
I haven't read anything from Tony Buzan.
Probably a good thing.

All I've seen is the mind map I posted.
I do find this style very limited.
But posted it for and example.

So how I would like to illustrate/map thought/thoughts.
Would be .-> point or thoughts expanding.
Not .-. point to point or thought breeding another thought and stopping.

Maybe these types of programs would not wotk.
But I see potential in them.

Like the pic I posted may not say peace or quite.
If another pic of a war on the other side of that little hill was there.

Or that grass and water could say growth or green.
Plant life, the need for water, or about bugs, fish...a lot there.
Depends on the direction taken with more added.
Can go as many directions as one can think of and then think of more.
It could go many directions as a starting point.
Providing many perspectives.

from here

http://www.nitropdf.com/free/index.htm

this

http://www.primopdf.com/

Though it's not exactly what you want.
It will work with any pdf, not just adobe.

http://www.a-pdf.com/text/index.htm

Then there's Bullzip, very popular, a printer as requested,
and the best as I've seen talked about.
Next to Primo.

Nitro (full version) adds a printer, for $99.

http://www.nitropdf.com/index.asp

Primo comes from Nitro.
Nitro supposedly the best adobe replacement.

Thanks for the responses.
It seems quite the task.
I may have at it....soon....:)

Learned a new word by posting this anyway!
"Compendium"
Although I'm not sure if it's the idea or a program.
I did look it up in Wikipedia. Though it may be a program?
Thanks for the "plethora" of thoughts Paul Keith.
Worth reading for sure.

And thanks to all, and app103 for the lead on the app.
Jimdoria, Morny, App, Thanks.

Yeah I can put together a few pages of thoughts.
My thoughts.
But I was thinking about giving that to visual aid.
So as to give it away, so to speak, and see what comes of it.
Cause if I can illustrate thoughts,
perhaps another or more could see something different in that.

It's not like I'm dead set on what I think,
but to reflect and bounce it off of others.
and see what happens that I have not thought of.

More like getting ideas from ideas type of thing.
I may see an illustration one way and someone else another.
And looking at it a bit, it may look different.
Same as paragraphs I suppose.
Meanings of words sometimes limit vision.
But a picture is worth a thousand words as "they" say.
So not necessarily like the mind map posted.
Could use most anything to represent thoughts,
other then words.....

Peace...or Quiet?

General Software Discussion / Re: What's your preferred File Manager
« Last post by cmpm on April 25, 2009, 09:59 PM »
Yeah the text is large in that shot.
I can't remember my settings when I shot it.
But these eyes can use larger text in most cases.
Honestly I don't know if text size is changeable.
I'm not sure what my resolution was,
or on which monitor I shot it on.
I use one monitor that 1200 x 1024,
and the other is less so I can drag stuff to it to read it better.

edit- and having two windows open helps with drag and drop
you can just have one window open

I tried Qdir I think its called.
4 windows and small text.

I usually use windows explorer, but if I'm doing tasks,
I'll open AC.

That is an impressive list.

AC Browser didn't make it huh....
Some just haven't played with it.
It's pretty customizable imho.
Or they have used it and don't like it.
That's cool.
One thing though,
you can turn off the panel on the left in 'view'.
Or turn off or on most anything....

I like the thing.
I'm sure there are others better though.

I was wondering........
Where do you start?
Yeah - the mind.

Perhaps jotting down notes here and there.
Then getting this on virtual paper.

Anyone ever do one of these?
This is a carrot on a stick I reckon...

http://www.docstoc.c...w.aspx?doc_id=715997

There's plenty of software around. And info.
Just wondering what gets it going.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_map

http://www.mind-mapp...-to-mindmapping.html

Seems better to illustrate then to paragraph an idea and ideas.
Quicker read anyway. And doesn't seem limited.
More like a person thinks on any given thought, thoughts...

General Software Discussion / Re: How to duplicate a file in the same folder?
« Last post by cmpm on April 20, 2009, 07:22 AM »
This can do what you want possibly.
It worked for me anyway.
Free to use for how long it does not say.
It claims to be shareware, but I don't see any limits.
The other one I found was FileMaker Pro-not free.

http://www.annoyance...g/exec/software/cept

http://www.creativel...ment.com/powertools/

Adds commands for right clicking a file.
There's more then 1 command to choose from after this installs.

'Power Rename' is the one I used to duplicate a file in the same folder with a time stamp.
1224
I appreciate the help but I'm just going to use what is already there. I didn't get stuck anywhere I think.....? Set it up just like your walk through, looked the same to me anyway.

it's "C:\gmail.exe" with or without the quotes?
I tried it both ways.

Not a big deal to me, which is maybe why I didn't get it.
I can just keep using the 'mail to' with the gmail notifier.

I guess it works for you, no one else has said yet.
1225
I gave up on it. But still have Gmail in my start menu, that opens the inbox. I suppose I could make a compose icon and put it there.

I use Poppeeper for gmail and yahoo anyway.
Although it doesn't do anything for system default settings.
