rolls: This actually isn't related to firefox. GridMove starts doing that after a long time, I've noticed it too. I have tried to understand why it happens, but still couldn't figure it out. Right now, I believe it's related to the language GridMove is programed in, but I may be wrong :(

:D Another happy costumer! Good to know it's fixed, ottenm. Now you can focus on finding other problems :P

You're a genious ottenm! Of course, just use:
^=(.*)$|^fc(.*)$
That should work perfectly.

PS: still, I think this should be solved at the level of the plugin

When I mentioned "default name", I meant the "alias (override)" field. Sorry for not being specific :(
Yeah, but changing the Regular Expression has that same effect.
This is indeed a problem that can only be changed by modifying fcalc, so I'll let mouser answer.

:) The aliases aren't designed to replace a search by another search, they are designed to be used to launch other programs. Only when you add one of those I mentioned do they work like you'd expect with an unix alias.
Probably, the name isn't very adequate :)

Living Room / Re: Computer mods: What odd things have you done?
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 16, 2008, 11:15 AM »
i think a cool mod would be a flat old style computer case (not tower but the kind that has proportions more like a pizza box), but with the entire top being one giant slow fan (like maybe a 20inch by 20inch fan).  now that would be cool in more than one way.
I think your cat wouldn't find it that interesting, if he(she?) got a paw in there ;)

I've posted my image here, so I'll just link to it instead.
That's the south view from my parents' appartment, I'll post the North and West views when I have some time to make more panorama photos :)

I do think though that we are going to have to start a new thread entitled "How to clean up your work space in 10 easy steps"..
;D But I think it's safer not to allow Carl and 40hz to post on that thread, or they might teach bad examples!

PS: updated my post above. f0dder: doh!  :-[

I had already posted my desktop at my home, but I'm now on exams, thus I'm at my parents'.
So, here's how my desk at my parents' looks.
IMG_0058.JPG

Notice that on the left there's more pink stuff and marker pens, because that's my sister's side at MY desk, she's been there for the past couple weeks, to study for her exams and easily ask for my help. My half goes up to the "distributed systems:concepts and design" book, which was the book I studied for yesterday's exam (which went pretty well :D) and I'll be packing somewhere soon ;)
Also interesting is that neither one of the laptops is the one I posted on the previous picture, since that one is now with Acer (and has been for the past 3 weeks) for the third time to replace the hdd with a new one (they keep sending it back with used disks, which I easily break in less than one week).

PS: You have a great taste for:) in computer mice, Carl! ;)

PS2: I thought you might like to see what's outside those 2 windows, so I posted a quick panorama view (courtesy of hugin!), attached to this post.

General Software Discussion / Re: 20 things Windows 7 should have

f0dder: I honestly don't think it's possible to use UAC enabled as of right now.
My father, for example, bought an hp computer. The regular use of the computer pops up UAC for no reason.
One example is that when he's browsing the web, some hp software tries to access iexplorer (for keeping passwords, I think) and UAC pops up. I know it's stupidity of the hp's people for not building their software properly, but until everyone is well aware of the needs of UAC, it is just unusable. I mean.. I can't even figure out how to make GridMove install without raising UAC! (I probably could with some decent effort, but I'm not really able to waste 3 days fiddling around inno... bah)
1211
;D ;D ;D I see that GridMove has existed even since before I could program :)
Actually, that isn't really a review, it's just the text from the PAD file, and it looks like they can't read the date on it, or the date it wrong :)

Hi echo!
I think you're looking for "dosearch", "restartsearch" or "dosearchontrigger". They're documented on the help file, under "Advanced Use -> Special/Virtual Launch Strings".
An example would be:
dosearch tm in 60 tada
The three different keywords are aimed at different situations, so just try each one and see which ones fits best ;)

too bad 64bit downlkoad is broken :(
Yes, I noticed that too. Only the xp 32bit version link works. And that version doesn't work in vista 64 :(

When I saw the title I immediately assumed it referred to a replacement for the Windows Task Manager, which is really a process manager. I guess that's what happens when you're a developer :)
Don't feel bad, I went there too.

JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / Re: GridMove simple grid maker
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 14, 2008, 10:38 AM »
At the risk of exposing my ignorance, I have yet to be able to correctly create a usable grid by editing the files.
Something I've learned at university: "When the users can't use your software, it's not their fault for not understanding how to use it. It's your fault for making it too complicated" ;). That's exactly why I'm trying to make it less complicated.
Let's see how many people would prefer this method ;)
1218
mwb1100: I think SplitView doesn't really create 2 monitors in one, it's just the way they describe it.
It's actually very similar to my own GridMove ;)
1219
Ok, found the software I used.
It's ZoneScreen. Unfortunately, the site is unavailable, but you can still download it through archive.org: http://web.archive.o...s.com/zonescreen.htm

JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / GridMove simple grid maker
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 14, 2008, 10:03 AM »
Ok, so I just had this idea:
For all of you who use GridMove out there, how would you like an application that allowed you to position a few windows on your screen, then press a button, and that application would create a new GridMove Grid for you to use (and share!)?
Would anyone use this? Do you think it'd be better than making the grid by editing the files?
1221
I think you most definitelly would need to code a driver, to add another monitor to the system. Actually, now I think I know how it can be done.
I think I've already seen some programs out there that make a remove VNC connection (similar to remote desktop) appear as another monitor. Thus, if you run a virtual machine, remote VNC to it from it to your real machine (running a VNC server as the 2nd screen) and then use it as another monitor, you'll be able to test stuff in 2 monitors whithout actually having 1 computers! :)

[edit] One example of the kind of VNC software I mentioned is Maxivista, but I think there are others [/edit]
[edit2] made a correction in the post [/edit]

PS: I've used some other software to do this in the past to another computer of mine in the network, and it works fairly well. To the virtual machine, it should be pretty much flawless.
1222
That's a very good idea. Virtual machines should have this feature (I don't know any that does, though :( ).
I would also find it very handy!

I'm impressed!
That's a REALLY good video. I sure wasn't expecting such thing.
I still don't understand if the sound of the harddrives (which do the vocals, from what I understand) really comes from the hdds or if it's modified to that it sounds that way.
