Living Room / Re: TouchPad for PC w/Windows 7 vs. carpal tunnel ?
« Last post by Ath on July 30, 2015, 03:34 AM »
Unfortunately, the only remedy for CTS is an operation on your hand/wrist. Prevention should have started years ago.
A good mouse, probably a large enough Logitech (good quality button-switches), could have postponed the CTS, but nothing will eventually avoid it with intensive keyboard/mouse use. (I'll eventually have similar issues you mention.)
You could check out specific mice and replacements like touchpads, but it'll require a very personalized adjustment to you way of working (with trial and error), and a lot of rest, to enlighten your pain.

Under 'Coding Snacks'/Post New Requests Here would be fine.

that's an invalid regex...
First remove the extra new-lines, that'll help a bit, but it doesn't flag invalid an e-mail like name@domain, so it's probably bogus.

Skwire Empire / Re: Release: sChecklist
« Last post by Ath on July 20, 2015, 01:46 AM »
I'm not sure if you were commenting on my post or just making a general observation.  Unfortunately, sChecklist doesn't allow the data files to reside anywhere but the \program file\sChecklist subfolder so moving them to another directory is not possible.
-BeenAroundTheBlock (July 19, 2015, 06:34 PM)
I made a general comment on your use of the C:\Program Files folder for 'installation' of portable software: You shouldn't. Then you don't need to turn off UAC for running generic software as it's supposed to run, and other software as safe as possible.
I was trying to say you should move the entire sChecklist application to a different folder.

That is one of the reasons I have my personal computer set up to run under Administrator mode all the time.
-BeenAroundTheBlock (July 19, 2015, 06:34 PM)
As said above: You shouldn't. This is 'less secure' (to use an understatement), as any application, viruses for instance, can now change any file in C:\Program Files without a warning, spreading themselves whenever you start a legit application...

Non-installer / portable tools shouldn't be placed in a C:\Program Files (sub)directory, as Administrator rights are required to be able to create/change files there (Windows security feature).
Moving all files to f.e. \Portable\sChecklist should give better results.

For a continues display of memory and CPU load I'm using True Launch Bar (shareware), with the System Monitor plugin set for "History (line) 16". When hovered with the mouse it shows a lot of relevant information:
Screenshot - 17-07-2015 , 08_28_45.png

The Page(file) info I hardly ever user, but the CPU and memory lines (green & red) sometimes give me a clue why my system reacts a little slow (i7 4800MQ @ 2.7 GHz with 16 GB :P).

Oh, and the other problem is that I haven't figured out how to lifehack myself a decent digital camera, yet, to take pics for a blog.  :P
ebay? (we're not going to let you get away with it, we all want you to start that blog ;D )

Maybe mousers World Cup Predictor could be a start for you? It's not exactly what you've asked, but it does give some kind of a prediction :)

Hm, why would I, or anyone for that matter, buy that if there is GitHub or Visualsvn, to name a few proven and tried solutions, for free?

In my case, it was my antivirus.  That's when I finally got rid of AVG.
@mouser, didn't you say in another thread you are running AVG on (some of) your system(s)? :o

Tooltip time is rather short at it's default setting
Ah, the developers of .NET would like to talk to you. Anyway, yes I agree entirely, and a (somewhat tricky) fix is forthcoming. In the mean time however, all the info from the tooltips are available in the main help section.
That is an application-wide setting, but I couldn't find or recall from memory the exact attribute to set :-[, as most of my code isn't on the laptop I was typing my remark on.
1191
I've had a similar experience, a couple of years ago, and a simple reboot cured it at that time, probably because I had previously (a couple of days before) installed some funky display-link drivers (those are funky by default :'().
System has been working just fine after that, but the backup reminder is very valid

I think I like it, especially for (regex) n00bs it'll be very helpful, as intended.

A few remarks:
  • Resizing the window isn't very polished
     Screenshot - 7-06-2015 , 16_29_59.png
  • The window is quite big, it may not fit correctly on smaller screen resolutions (and then the first item comes in)
  • Tooltip time is rather short at it's default setting
  • You might want to add the regex code inserted by a button into the tooltip, for the more technical/interested users

Hi Matt,
Welcome to the donationcoder forum.
Not many guidelines here, but a friendly approach and clearly stated questions is going to get you almost anywhere you want to go
(yup, you got that covered ;D)

A few questions:
- What application is triggering/shooting the urls into your browser?
- What webbrowser(s) are you using?

I think I can enhance my WinButtons project with the features you require here, but detecting an url in some browsers is kinda 'black magic' it seems, and there are no timers in WB yet, but those are the kind of challenges I can use atm.

Partition 4: Reserved for Windows "ReadyBoost". (around 3GB)
AFAIK, ReadyBoost requires that the entire usb drive is available for its use.

And besides that, I remember reading somewhere (possibly on DC) that the usb (software)driver doesn't allow it to be partioned.
Edit: It needs the 'removable drive' bit changed: http://wikihow.com/P...tition-a-Thumb-Drive

You could probably get some improvement by updating the graphics driver. Don't expect updates through Windows Update, you'll have to actively search for it at the Intel support site.

Ath rushed to judge
Hmm, we could agree to disagree here.

by GPS I meant basically Google Maps, which ONLY works if you have internet (otherwise it says that it is not available because there is no connection)
That's not what you said before...
There are several free, turn-by-turn, navigation apps that work off-line, by downloading the maps beforehand, and only using GPS for the current location. That's how I (could) use my tablet for outdoor navigation.

« Last post by Ath on May 31, 2015, 04:05 PM »
I want to be connected to GPS at the same time with receiving SMS or being on a phone call, does that need dual sim standby or full active?
GPS doesn't require any sim at all; my tablet doesn't have a sim slot but has perfect gps reception.
And why is receiving an sms limited by any phonecall you make? The linux based OS beneath either Android or iOS is perfectly capable of multi-tasking.

Please turn on your brain before posting a question  >:(

Of what purpose/use that is, I have no idea.    :tellme:
Maybe to avoid it being used for captcha recognition?

If we were living in the US of A and looking for a new home, I'd surely come over and have a serious look...
