Hi iphigenip, thanks for that link :) .

Indeed "Right Click" does look like it would do the job. It's perhaps slightly expensive given the amount of it's features I probably wouldn't need (plugin's, skins and such). I wonder if others hear know of similar apps.

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Add a folder to right-click context menu similar.
« Last post by Eóin on March 02, 2007, 09:47 AM »
Context menus have been mentioned here in the past e.g.

https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=6411.0
https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=3101.0
https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=3241.0

I gather they are unwieldly beasts to code, not least cause they use COM. But what I was thinking of is small in comparasion to say the suggested ContextMenu Commander so it might not prove too difficult.

Basicially I use a small taskbar menu as a custom start menu organised just how I like it. See small screenshot. What I'd really love is if I could add this to the context menu associated with the desktop, or even all right click menus if possible. Finally the icing on the cake would be if it could be cascaded like the 7-zip menu shown below too.

If you're doing .NET I say stick with C#, if you want to go native then switch to unmanaged C++.

Aside- everyone should download the demo video for RPG Maker XP, it's the funniest thing I've seen online in a long while. Ok sorry for dragging this off-topic... I'll go now...

Living Room / Meebo.com - instant messaging from absolutely anywhere
« Last post by Eóin on February 22, 2007, 05:29 AM »
I hadn't seen this mentioned here before so I thought I'd post something about it. I use it in college where I'm behind a proxy. Obviously there is a security issue with giving out your passwords, but my IM identity really isn't worth stealing. Plus they do have a privacy statement, if you trust it :) .

meebo.com is a website for instant messaging from absolutely anywhere. Whether you’re at home, on campus, at work, or traveling foreign lands, hop over to meebo.com on any computer to access all of your buddies (on AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, Google Talk, ICQ and Jabber) and chat with them, no downloads or installs required, for free!

People might like to give Cream a try for a more accessible interface to Vim.

For you eventual goals I'd say Java or Flash would be the way to go. wxWidgets is more about standalone applications over those that run within a browser.

[edit]Alternativly if you thinking of a server-side game (like say Kingdom of Loathing) then you'll be wanting to look into something like PHP.[/edit]

Matlab for me, but that's cause I have to use it for college. It's nice though so I don't mind :) .

Well 2) and 3) would really clinch it for me too, C++ sounds like the way to go. Good luck, it's a fun language

If you're coming from VB.net then C# could be a wiser option. It's still got the whole ".net thing" but also it is proving to be quite popular so there'd be a lot of resources out there.

That said I'm a C++ programmer myself, and really love the language so I am certainly not discouraging you away from it, but there is no harm in looking into other options :) .

I would almost suggest getting a beginners book to C++ and forgetting about what you've learned from VB initially. Once you get past learning the syntax then all your VB knowledge will really stand to you, but initially it could be just confusing because of the subtle differences like those two you've pointed out.

SMF Forum Mods / Re: Is there a better way to handle Gri's posts?

Just my two cents, but if we are to take what Gri is doing over on his own forum as some form of art, then his constant postings here about it constitute nothing more than advertising, or more simply; spam.

Hmm, I don't find the winner the slightest bit funny at all, the other two are excellent. Maybe its just me.

Hi, reviving a old thread I know but I thought this was relevant- A new game, Knytt, from the creator(s) of WaDF has been released recently. It's not at all on the scale of WaDF but is still very atmospheric and a pleasure to play.

Knytt v1.0.1

Hi kyrathaba there are two very popular free installers out there: Inno Setup and Nullsoft Scriptable Install System.

Personally I use Inno, here is a sample of what a script needs to register with a file extension-
...
[Tasks]
Name: associate_app; Description: {cm:AssocFileExtension,Application,.extension}; GroupDescription: Other tasks:; Flags: unchecked

...

[Registry]
Root: HKCR; Subkey: .extension; ValueType: string; ValueName: ; ValueData: Application; Flags: uninsdeletevalue; Tasks: associate_application
Root: HKCR; Subkey: Application; ValueType: string; ValueName: ; ValueData: Extension File; Flags: uninsdeletekey; Tasks: associate_application
Root: HKCR; Subkey: Application\DefaultIcon; ValueType: string; ValueName: ; ValueData: {app}\Application.exe,0; Tasks: associate_application
Root: HKCR; Subkey: Halite\shell\open\command; ValueType: string; ValueName: ; ValueData: """{app}\Application.exe"" ""%1"""; Tasks: associate_application

...

That script registers "Application" with ".extension" files. So you can change the word "Application" and "extension" to fit your needs. If the above is a bit confusing read the FAQ entry.

In the early part of any instructions I have read it says Go to Start... Run... type cmd.  When I do that I get a cmd is not a valid Win32 application?

Try Start Menu >> Programs >> Accesories >> Command Prompt instead.

I also note that my computer does not have a system32 folder under c:\windows. Only a system folder.

Now that is odd, maybe someone else can help you here.

like i said, i don't really know. but i would assume that directx 10 would be made available for xp or are microsoft going to deliberately keep it to vista.

At the moment they are saying it will not be available for XP >:(

The game has a nasty bug whereby a tower sometimes randomly disappears when you build a new one. Makes the game very frustrating.
