Found Deals and Discounts / Re: [FREE] Mastering Docker
« Last post by Deozaan on December 05, 2018, 01:38 AM »
Sounds like this thread needs to be renamed to something like [FREE] Packt Book of the Day.

Unless you don't mind updating the title to the current deal every so often. That sure is helpful. :D

Excuse my ignorance but who is Cody?

Cody is the DonationCoder mascot bird. He can be seen at the top of the site, with a coin in his beak.

Off topic: You keep posting videos of things that I've either already seen recently (such as those speedrun history videos) or videos that YouTube keeps recommending to me. So either YouTube is just pushing the same videos to everyone, or you and I seem to have similar tastes in videos.

Living Room / Re: texting from Windows 10 PC
« Last post by Deozaan on December 02, 2018, 04:53 PM »
Microsoft has software to allow just that. It's called "Your Phone."

And yes, you need to link it to your phone using an app on your phone, but after that you should be able to text from your PC.

But if you don't have a phone and just want to send SMS messages to people using your PC, then I second Google Voice as an option.

It might help if you provided some links to some "newspaper" or "propaganda" sites which prevent access due to ad blockers so people here can test them and let you know.

Advocate of the devil here:  Would it then not become just a numbers game?  This post is liked by x amount of people on this forum? What does that add exactly?

The point of it would be so that you could express thanks or approval or give some form of feedback without having to create a new reply which would therefore ping everyone who has signed up to be notified of new replies. It also helps keep threads on topic instead of having a bunch of superfluous "thanks" or "nice" replies.

This would be especially handy, IMO, in threads such as the latest Steam or GOG giveaways.

As things are now, I have to choose between no reply at all (which can give the OP the idea that nobody cared about what they had to say/share) or possibly bothering a bunch of people with notifications just to say something like "thanks" or "I enjoyed that" etc. Often times I choose the former.

I managed to get the October Update this morning and I seem to be the only one here who got it without serious incident. Anyone else?

1809 still hasn't been pushed to me yet. I'm running 1803 and just checked for updates and it says there's nothing for me.

Same here with various projects going ring and run is the norm.

I wish they'd ring before they ran. I don't care if they stick around for me to open the door. It just would be nice to know something was dropped off.

I've had a "Packt Free Learning" tab open in my browser since around 2014-2015 or so, and check it almost every day.

A somewhat recent change is that I do occasionally have to fill out a Re-Captcha when trying to claim a free book, even when logged in, and even though I have in the past purchased books using that account. But I've never had any trouble with any of it. Not sure why that happens, but it hasn't stopped me from getting any books I wanted.

I don't even know what a "beading thread" is.

Me neither, but I'd guess it's a thread used for stringing beads together. I'd guess it may even be somewhat elastic, too, but then she did call for a "strong beading thread" and I don't think of elastic threads as very strong.

These Delivery Drivers Had One Job And Failed

I can relate.

I've got a weird doorbell that will immediately silence itself when you release the button, and also takes about a second of holding it down before it starts making the "ding dong" sound. This means that most people who just press and release the button never actually make a sound. I put a sign out by the doorbell telling people to hold the doorbell for at least 2 seconds or knock loudly. I've had an unusually large number of deliveries the past few weeks and only a single time was there a ring of the doorbell.

I wonder if it's a new(ish) policy to just drop off the package and leave.

Isn't there a way to get your web browser to launch IMDB.com links in the app?

Something legible would be nice. How about black? Or if you must change the color, how about a nice, dark, forest green?

Or just black.  Use Italics, Bold, and Underline for emphasis

That's what I said.

Bold, italics, and underline added for emphasis. :P

You may need to reboot before K will show up. And also you may need to make it so that Keybase launches on startup, or at least is running when you want to access K.

The obvious answer to that is... maybe.
1196
Exactly what determines "k:" ?

I thought maybe you simply set up folders private and public in the keybase folder.  Do I have to do that fancy file system download?

You need to fully install the Keybase client, including the Dokan stuff. This sets up the "cloud" part of the file system as a local drive K: on your PC.

As I stated in my original response: Using Keybase for this is perhaps a little unorthodox and not entirely uncomplicated. Even though you can use Keybase for this, there may be other, better solutions to your original request.

sounds like clipstep. and the link is dead

You replied to a post that is over 9 years old, and hasn't had any activity for over 8 years. The age alone practically guarantees a dead/broken link.

That yellow font colour should be illegal.

What color would you suggest?

Living Room / Re: Funny Video: Multiplayer Flight Simulator Air Traffic Control Job
« Last post by Deozaan on November 14, 2018, 02:37 PM »
It's a multiplayer flight simulator (Flight Simulator X) where people can take on different roles, including as pilots and air traffic controllers, without rules and governed only by their own love of the protocols of the real world jobs they are performing.
They play around with the real lingo and rules, and put their own psychotic little twists on things. LOVE IT.

In other words, it's like a bunch of young children playing "office" and making everything up as they go along.

  • Child who inevitably volunteers to be the "boss" and orders everyone around? Check.
  • Child who is eager to gain approval by obeying the "boss" who has no real authority over them? Check. ("Permission requested to taxi to gate to load cookies.")
  • Child who plays along while it suits them, but still wants to be the center of attention? Check. ("I'm going to put on a show for you. Play some cool music.")
  • Child who has no idea what they're doing but just wants to be a part of the social aspect of it? Check. ("I'm flying a Cessna.. uh.. it... uh... um... er...")
  • Child(ren) who completely ignore all semblance of rules and order and just do their own thing? Check, Double-Check, Triple-Check, etc..

;D  :P

Or Bluetooth Headphones that use bone conduction instead of plugging your ears:
