Non-Windows Software / Re: *NIX: Relatively Minimal Host OS for VirtualBox Use

Mods forget to edit quotes. Hmm.

Above list is incomplete, given that (obviously) a couple of BSDs and derivatives work as a host too.

*YAWN*... (now that's something of substance.)

I told ewemoa where to look by giving one of the possible answers to the question asked initially. If that's not enough, ewemoa might come back to it, right?

Yep, the host software and the guest software. Now how does this invalidate my thesis?

(Interestingly, you emphasize a different part every time.)

and the VirtualBox Guest Additions[2] with the operating system.

Guest Additions are installed on the hosted system.

Either way, I'm more familiar with using BSD to create bespoke servers rather than VM hosts, so I'll defer to you to provide instructions or links on how to do it under OpenBSD.

RTFM...  :D

Your quote is related to using PC-BSD as a guest system.

OpenBSD works as a host (or doesn't, depending on who you ask). - PC-BSD is not exactly "light on resources".

easy to install (so recognizes hardware well) *NIX -- though light on resources

Not having read the rest of the thread:

OpenBSD.

Much less than 100 MB RAM usage on my "hey, let's test OpenBSD" machine (latest 5.5-CURRENT with default X installation), fast and clean base system installation. It even found my Radeon card immediately.

"This content is not shown because JavaScript is disabled"  ... well, can I finally shrinken the giant DO toolbars in v11?

Time to check it once again...

On Android, I fell in love with Solid Explorer, although I try alternatives (namely Lime and Fx) every now and then.

Listary 4.20 has a "Launch Applications" feature now.

Seems like FARR is redundant.  8)

+1 for Music Bee in case a full-featured audio center is what's needed. (Personally, I use AIMP3 which has a simpler but different user interface.)

Aw neat.

See, this is a good example of a political party which would never had allowed the NSA things to happen. Why didn't they get enough attraction? Right: because they are not "the ones"  nor "the others".

Sigh.

Considering the NSA has back-doored Windows

... and, according to Edward Snowden, every other major operating system, yes.

which "Liberal Party" are we speaking about not listening to?

Any!

(Is there a Pirate Party USA?)

I really wonder how this is related to "OS".

Also, US-American elections are a bad joke. Republicans, "Democrats" or...? I wish the Liberal Party had more influence, but no one votes for them. Why not? Stupidity.

I meant mostly.  ;)
(Admittedly, most tech sites mostly allow it...)

I like OpenID but I don’t get many chances to use it.

Large tech sites mostly allow a sign-in by OpenID, some board systems added that... well.

General Review Discussion / Re: Best spreadsheet

Technically, I'm currently stuck between PlanMaker (very fast, very mighty, quite cheap) and Quattro Pro (very, ehm, just mighty). While I have Excel 2013 (for university-related stuff) and LibreOffice Calc (for everything else) on my hard disk, both of them lack a sane user experience.

Too bad that Wikipedia fails to have a real "comparison" regarding actual functionality available.

I usually just add appropriate "display:none" styles to my Wikipedia account's CSS file. Easier to manage.

There is nothing better than Directory Opus.

This was true until the "Vista-styled" versions were released which look bloated and a bit boring, no matter what you configure.

(Does dired count as a file manager? It is a serious competition to FAR Manager [which I also like as I stated a couple of years/pages ago].)

One tool, one purpose. Now what is the "one purpose" for file managers? Managing files? If so, it's actually sad that Proto development seems to have been halted.

It's a German version that will not be freely upgradable

Not sure about the language (XY's language files are usually exchangeable...?), but interesting that my work is "freeware" now. Bah.  ;D

Back on FARR now. Launchy seems to be dead. Initially I switched due to Launchy's better performance, but that seems to have improved...

Any chance for a better font display on the options window/status bar? It could need more blur.
