I have it on excellent authority that you can also do it with voice recognition software, provided you say the letters and numbers in Pig Latin.  ;)

I'm a big fan of BasKet Note Pad despite the idiotic insistence of the KDE crowd to cram a <*expletive*> 'K' into every application's name.

(***edit*** removed minor rant regarding the use of K in all KDE apps. I was having a bad day when I wrote it. )

Basket Note is like Tomboy on steroids. A good inbox for all the random stuff that falls out of your brain. One of the first things I load onto a fresh NIX installation. Highly recommended.

Also a good review of BasKet along with other NIX note taking apps can be found here:

It's a bit sad, actually, as he's coming out of retirement because he is getting divorced after 35 years of marriage and needs to money  :o I guess that solo four month trip across Canada and the US should have been a bit of a warning!

Going through a "change of wife" is often painful - and invariably expensive.

(I think Confucius said that!  ;D)

Surely changing something at this level doesn't infringe copyright

Actually... it does.

Whether or not the copyright holder decides to pursue it is a different matter.

Actually, Ive always wanted to ask if there's any truth to the rumor that I'm the illegitimate son of Buffalo Bill...

LOL - how old are you? If this is true you must be over 90 'cos he died in 1917 !

Well under 90. Which is what makes it so weird to begin with!

Of course you could always start scanning the two mother lodes of NIXapp goodness:

Gnome Geeks:  http://www.gnomefiles.org/ :-*

KDE Wonks:  http://www.kde-apps.org/ :-* :-*

Think of them as www.snapfiles.com for Linux

Looks like a web version of what Synaptic already does.

OOOHH, BUT WITH PICTURES!

Nice find, 40Hz

And less geeky descriptions!

What can I say, I'm a heretic. I actually liked Automatix despite all the criticisms and warnings. (Hmm...I used to smoke too...so I guess I still have a low-key closet death-wish someplace in my psyche....;D)

I think you still might want to contact Microsoft. There may be an 'unpublished' hotfix available for people that report the problem you're having. This type of hotfix will not be found in the downloads section of MSoft's website. You need to report the problem to get this type of patch - assuming one is available.

There is a thread over at TechTalkz that addresses what sounds much like your problem. I don't think the method they used to fix the problem is smart move, but here's the link anyway:

http://www.techtalkz...ervices-failure.html

I can't speak for it, so YOYO if you go with it. :tellme:

Luck.

Pretty cheeky for a company that based it's entire "new" OS on somebody else's kernal, core, and concept. The only original and innovative thing Apple ever did was the code for QuickDraw. And that was largely the work of one person.

Aren't these are the same guys that used to say "shame" to Microsoft for the deal they cut with Seattle Computer Products when Bill bought 86-DOS off them for only $50K, sold it to IBM as PC-DOS, and never paid SCP a penny more?

I went to the forums you posted, and I typed in that error code that I had in the event viewer, and every post that I went to, the error code was given because their copy of windows was invalid, but my computer says that it is activated, and is valid... huh

The time has come, the Walrus said, to...talk to Microsoft.

The Windows activation and 'genuine advantage' process isn't flawless. Run the MGA diagnostic & see what they have to say before you go crazy. :)

OMG 126 pages? What happened?
Did they finally release a Linux version of SQLNotes? ;)

I am really starting to like Appnr for Ubuntu.

It's not so much an app as a web-based way to install apps. I think it works better than Synaptic for newcomers (I don't use the word 'newbie'), and it's pretty convenient for older, grumpier, lazier types  -  like me! 8)

Check it out:

I can't shake the feeling there is something going on with your Vista validation/authorization. Might be time to contact the Mothership since only they know how their anti-piracy "feature" actually works.

Try this. Download and run this diagnostic:

http://go.microsoft....fwlink/?linkid=52012

If you get anything strange or odd looking in the diagnostic report, and the "resolve" button doesn't fix it, web over to this support link:

http://social.micros...enuinevista/threads/

Follow the instructions in the "Please Read Before Posting" announcement to submit your report for support assistance.

Alternatively, you could download Vista SP1 Stand-Alone (huge file!) and try reinstalling it, but I'd do the diagnostic thing first.

Let us know how you make out.

Aaaaaaaaaaaw, that's got to be the cutest depiction of Cthulhu I've ever seen :-*

Ain't he the cutest little elder horror you've ever seen? I'm gonna buy him a snuggly little pet Shoggoth for his 1E6th birthday.

BTW: you can get one here. http://paizo.com/sto...ures/myLittleCthulhu
At $29.95 it's a little expensive IMHO.  :)

Actually, I think you'd be better off just using one. Builds "brand recognition" and makes your post easier to identify.

And yeah, I much prefer the sextant thing too. Seems to be closer to what your post is all about. :)

(Of course the Minions of Cthullu are going to be disappointed that the octopus didn't make it. Maybe someday when the stars are right... ;D)

I just can't understand them...  :)
But I think it is better this way, we don't get bored.

Send me $1000 and I'll give you a few clues ;)

From my experience, I've found that just asking usually works best.

The far more troubling aspect of this captcha is this part:
"There is no zero."

I certainly hope this is a typo because it's going to cause some serious turmoil in the field of Number Theoryw if it turns out to be true.

Is that like saying: "Don't give me no nothing, dude!"

EDIT: The binary version of the code (real):

How'd you make out with the firewall ? Is anything blocking your RDC on port 3389?

One other thing you might consider trying is a reinstall of SP1. That would put a clean copy of terminal services on your machine just in case something didn't install correctly.

how about:

<b>can AI eventually demonstrate sentience/consciousness.</b>

We might actually live to see that before we die! 8)

also:

<b>can humans (as a species) move beyond superstitions</b>

My Ouija Board says: YES ;D

the aspect ratio of last one is not ideal.. better that it be wider rather than taller.

Couldn't agree more. It would probably work better as a bookmarker. ;)

like the first version (of the three) the best

I don't really have a use for fake telnet servers, because that won't fix my remote desktop problem, anyways, on with the previous post.

Sorry. That part was directed more towards f0dder... ;)
