Nokia Is spreading its tentacles across software world by  purchasing Symbian & Trolltech, they're in both Mobile and Desktop market now.

I wonder how long Mouser would take to completely rewrite FAAR into QT, 2, 4 or 6 months? rewriting a program into a whole different language seems a lot of work.
If most of us on DC starts to develop using Cross-platform toolkits then i'm sure we'll make more linux/mac users happy with software.

IMHO: If they are, it is only to get close enough to hit the F/OSS community over the head when it least expects it.

it will be either under Microsoft's own terms - or not at all.
Yes. 100% Agree.

I'm not the world's deepest thinker, but I don't see how you can reconcile the goals and behaviors of a free and open software community with that of a multi-billion dollar corporation whose dominant global position depends on their continued control of a closed, proprietary software product family.

With their strategies behind these projects:

  • Heroes Happen Here
  • Codeplex
  • Oxide
  • Funding for Mono

I found them moving in that way. So that's why i made the point. Even though Vista was failed, Linux Distros unable to take advantage of diverting Windows Users to Linux. Still people prefer Windows, and this is where Microsoft made their business move by releasing Windows 7 Beta openly. They never made such move with XP (Or even Vista, i think Vista betas were leaked and not official;y distributed).

So i agree, Microsoft will always watch out for numero uno. They wouldn't be Microsoft otherwise.

I'm not sure people here agree with me. But i think microsoft is moving towards Opensource and Free software movement slowly. Heroes happen here program and Windows 7 as free download is proof of it i think.

And Sabayon is perfect for those people who haven't the slightest clue about what they're doing - but still want to look incredibly cool while doing it.

Ubuntu is sometimes not the best for trying out Linux because it hides stuff rather than introduce stuff to Linux.
Yes. But for those switching from windows then there is no problem, it is user friendly & with less details like windows.

Mint is better in that it's an improved Ubuntu.
Yes. Agree.

I just don't recommend it as a diving board for jumping into Linux. There are friendlier distros out there that give you the same OS under the hood, and a smoother ride than Ashley experienced in these posts.
Which Distros are much friendlier than ubuntu?
Mepis?or Mandriva?

Got a link to an emoticon set you like better? I personally like the set used at DC a lot, they're simple and clean and small.
Yeah, i have specific Set in my mind. It is from Kirupa froums. But recently they switched to smaller smilies  :o but still those are interesting as well. So i'll try to find Medium sized Smilies just like we see on Wordpress Commnets/posts.

@Karol:
1. In-line images>> You mean Lightboxes for forums?

Back to Topic:

1) Other than paypal, please mention if Alertpay, Western Union Payment methods are available or not.
2) New Emoticons (these looks too fat)  :P
3) Maybe a place(extension within this site) where we can collaborate for open source/in-house DC Software

I like this idea.  :) It is a good way to encourage new/existing programmers at DC. We've to check Barnes and Noble and other similar site for this concept. Why not setup feature within DC that direct to webapp for making it possible to donors to help buy DC coder a book from his/her book wish list?

Perry,

You did good job as volunteer for NANY.  and i would like to see you as blogger for DC(for newsletter at least). You write good emails and event coverage as well. Why not write for your column in DC newsletter. I like your feedback and writing throughout NANY event.

Found Deals and Discounts / Giveaway of the Day
« Last post by mahesh2k on December 28, 2008, 08:46 AM »
I found this Site from the Official support forum of my webhost. I'm not associated with this site. Today i found the software "Win utilities" so thought i could share this with DC members!  :)

The idea behind this initiative is that many sites and publishers offer trial downloads; but only we offer giveaway downloads. What does that mean?

Basically, every day we nominate one software title that will be a Giveaway title of that day. The software will be available for download for 24 hours (or more, if agreed by software publisher) and that software will be absolutely free. That means - not a trial, not a limited version - but a registered and legal version of the software will be free for our visitors*.

The software product will be presented in its full functionality, without any limitations save for those mentioned in Terms and Conditions.

Another site is for games, where they offer games totally free of cost. http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/
