General Software Discussion / group lines
« Last post by kalos on May 16, 2012, 05:07 PM »
hello!

looking for a software or something that has the ability to display text as shown below
ie. where text lines are grouped in a treeview with the ability to expand/collapse, etc them
the grouping criteria will be a regex match or something
also, it would be nice to highlight (paint in specific color) groups that all their lines have some specific regex matches

thanks!

General Software Discussion / Re: FORTRAN - All your problems will be solved.

For example, I think "GUI" was not a term that had been invented at the time FORTRAN was invented or being used.

oh, didnt know that, thanks  :)
that "all your problems will be solved" is so misleading  ;D

General Software Discussion / shut down with one click
« Last post by kalos on May 16, 2012, 01:43 AM »
hello!

I need a tool that will let me shut down my pc with one or two clicks

while this seems very easy at first thought, I am basically searching for a solution that will properly shut down all processes and programs that are possibly unresponsive or they run and their shut down will result in data loss, and all the other possible popups that WinXP or programs display and you have to click them in order to shut down your PC

so, I need to click it and leave the office, being 100% sure that the PC will shut down

also, any solution that speeds up shutting down, is extremely welcomed

thanks!

General Software Discussion / Re: powerful undo
« Last post by kalos on May 15, 2012, 02:40 PM »
well, I basically mean what current undo does in WinXP's Windows Explorer, ie. undelete, unmove, unrename files etc

but it offers to undo only the last action, while I would like to undo any previous too

also, undoing closing of windows, applications, or whatever else could be useful, would be nice too

how does it compare with AHK, and particularly with third-party GUI automation?

any serious input???  :P

But Fortran: "...should virtually eliminate coding and debugging..."
Heh. I liked that. Pretty optimistic enthusiasm there.

this rang my bell!  :D

General Software Discussion / Re: web dir in excel
« Last post by kalos on May 09, 2012, 03:07 AM »
thanks for your input
I will use the tools you mention
I have realized that EXCEL is not the best solution to store files in
trying to store a large amount of potentially big files, will make it irresponsive and prone to corruption and data loss
creating a "local webpage", is an interesting idea, but would require more programming skills
I think I will go that way and see what I can do :/

EDIT: if only EXCEL had a function to download the web link of a file in a cell to a predefined folder and then store the hyperlink of that file to the next right cell, it would be sufficient

General Software Discussion / Re: scanning sofware
« Last post by kalos on May 09, 2012, 03:01 AM »
I think I need something specific:

I want to click the scan button and display a list of icons that will execute specific procedures, without any more clicks:

- scan, split to pages and save to predefined folder
- scan and email to predefined email
- scan and watermark
etc

any idea?
:/

hello!

I know that question is so common, huge, vague, already extensivle answered, etc, but I suppose there is always something that one can learn, so:

what can one do (in terms of software) to increase PC performance?

thanks!

The latter has been added yesterday (XYplorer beta v11.00.0004), the former will come soon. :)

is it possible that previews XYPlorer preview pane have resolution/size that fits the content to the pane dimensions or have unlimited resolution dimensions?

also, I wonder if XYPlorer uses some internal viewer for eg. pdf files or uses the system default or a specific program (eg. if I have in my system both Adobe Acrobat and SumatraPDF, and I have set as default the SumatraPDF, will it use that or Acrobat?)

XYplorer has a bunch of tabs for searching. So you can search for various things - e.g. a filename (or part of it) and content from within the file.
See where the mouse arrow is? You select which aspects you want to search for & the relevant tabs are highlighted with blue text
 (see attachment in previous post)

I think I will settle with XYplorer, but I will take advantage of its 30-day trial for now, thanks! :D

if it included an as-you-type filter of files inside a folder, and if it allowed me to move the preview pane at the right, it would be best :/

Can I suggest my Screenshot Captor tool -- though primarily for screenshot taking, as a very straightforward minimal interaction Scanning feature set that includes save-to-pdf in predefined folder.

You can watch a video demonstrating the Scanning features in Screenshot Captor here: https://www.donation...c/3ds/sc13/sc13.html

very interesting, thanks! we have the same scanner as well :D

I am basically interested in as solution that will scan the paper and save it as pdf in a standard specific folder, with just clicking the scan button, without any questions, GUIs, dialog boxes, confirmations, etc

(in case filename already exists, just rename)

thanks

General Software Discussion / scanning sofware
« Last post by kalos on May 02, 2012, 05:02 AM »
hello!

I use the scanner software that the scanner was shipped with, but it too much verbose, it asks me to click a button in order to create a pdf, after I have scanned a page (while it should just do it automatically) etc

I have used AHK to try to automate it, without much success, because its GUI is troublesome

anyway, is there a software to replace it, but fully compatible, without interfering with scanning quality and speed, but more customizable and handy than this one?

thanks!
