any employee who goes away on vacation brings the monkey and takes on-location photos of the monkey back to share.

Does that result in a rhesus negative?

My reaction was neutral/positive (as in, funny-positive) most of the time. However!

For me it was more the thought of having to pull it out of my rear end that got me - coupled with the descriptions of 1. the several minutes of the worm's death throes (and being able to feel the same) and 2.  being able to feel the worm's carcass work its way through one's intestines as one struggles to pull it out. Very nice.  :o

Thanks, innuendo  I'm a DOpus devotee (but own a licence for TC and love it as well), so understand your position!

Fascinating! Thanks for the link, mouser  The description of the "cure" and its effects were cringe inducing  :o

rjbull - I'm going to have to track down a copy of New Guinea Tapeworms and Jewish Grandmothers: Tales of Parasites and People - I read the freebie first page at Amazon and like what I see!

I was running the Win7 calc in Vista for a while and usually have the Power Calculator installed as well. However, if I need to calculate anything when I'm on my computer I tend to fire up Excel or, more commonly, reach for a calculator. Somehow it just feels "right" to me, whereas using a computer based calculator leaves me feeling empty  :o

Is bumping your own thread a faux pas  :-[ I'll live with it...  :P

Just thought I'd post to say that I'm surprised more people on DC aren't interested in calculators - these are the gadgets that got me into computing! I suspect that it is a generational thing, though - younger members are probably more excited by cell phones and mp3 players...

The Novatix re-incarnation of PowerDesk that they dubbed Explorer Plus is without a doubt the most desirable version of the PowerDesk siblings.

Incidentally, I forgot to ask above (when posting the download link), what are the advantages of Explorer Plus 6.2 over the current PowerDesk version (7.x)?

If the PowerDesk way of doing things is anyone's 'groove', so to speak then it'd be very advantageous for one to track down a copy of Explorer Plus v6.2.

Download here!

Excellent work, fenixproductions  I have a licence and can highly recommend TotalCommander. The beta is working fine with Vista Ultiimate-64 as well...  :)

Heh, heh - will do, Steven.

PS to all - I apologize for the multiple exclamation points in my previous post... Giddy from lack of sleep, I guess  :o

also tried Ashampoo Uninstaller but didn't care for it. I forget all the reasons why but I do remember that it stayed resident in memory waiting for an install to monitor. I don't need another system tray app for that, I'd rather launch the utility when I need it.

Just to note - it is posible to disable this feature (which is how I install it). I don't have it installed at the moment, so can't give precise instructions on how to achieve this.

Steve - thank you for the informative post! I purchased a lifetime licence for Your Uninstaller at least five years ago and it pretty much relegated Ashampoo to secondary status! I'm tempted to give Revo a try, though...

Great post!

What's your take? Do you hesitate to use "however", do you avoid "which" at the beginning of a sentence at all costs? Do you think your English education in school was sufficient?

Which question to answer was a hard choice, however there are more here to respond than me.    ;)

Wow! The above is REALLY cringe-inducing (WRT grammatical construction). Bravo

No offence taken - I've not tried a 33s, so can't comment, but the HP 35s is a beautiful calculator and is touted as being a much better machine than the 33s. I bought it to get to know RPN... I haven't made much progress because I haven't had much time to play around with it (RPN) - after 25 years of AOS/EOS it seems kind of cumbersome.

I like Casio calculators too, BTW my first four calculators were all Casios (or Tandy/Radio Shack badged Casios) and I keep toying with the idea of picking up a 115ES (it's the 991ES up here in Canada) :) The TI-68 is awesome - the last great TI (non-graphing) Scientific (they made them between 1989 and 2002)... I can't stand the new ones.

PS Wrote the above while trying to teach...  :o Just wanted to clarify that the HP 41 is HIGHLY desireable, even though it has been out of production for 18 years or so and that they fetch BIG money on eBay. The 35th anniversary HP 35s is a bargain at $60, and a pleasure to use... Though I am currently most enamoured with the EC-4044 (TI-68), for reasons that I can't pin down right now. Not to worry, though, next week it will be something else  ;D

laser toner is going to be MUCH cheeper than inkjet ink isn't it?
If you mean black, laser toner won't be such a financial birden  ;)

Seriously, though, to address the OP's original question, I'm not aware of an InkSaver-type app for Vista.

Incidentally, what version of Vista are your running? I'm surprised InkSaver won't install/run. Have you tried installing with administrator privileges?

As I noted elsewhere on DC, I've switched to using PDF Converter 5 Professional as my viewer and am quite impressed with how light it is and how quick and responsive. Recently, I did download and install the latest Adobe Digital Edition and I agree with urlwolf about its speed adn low resource consumption. I haven't tried any copying within it though... Doesn't sound convenient. I WISH that e-books were universally readable in a pdf viewer and that the content was protected some other way... I object to *needing* Adobe on my system just to read a book I've purchased (given that the book in question is one I also own two paper copies of, maybe I should just blow off the $4 I spent on the digital version... as it's the sole ebook I own that is in the proprietary acsm format, which I suspect is just a fancy schmanzy wrapper for pdf?).

Most of them are, but there is also the old newspapers from the NY Times that is being digitized for preservation. I don't know if that is a commercial endeavor or not, but anything that preserves history can't be a bad thing even if it is somewhat commercial.

I kind of like the idea behind the reCaptcha though...

Really? Well...I'll bet your eyesight is a lot better than mine then. ;D 8)

Well... no. I have trouble with them as well. However, I don't think I've yet seen a reCaptcha in the wild. If I did, I wouldn't mind - it's for a good cause!

Thanks for that link, app. My understanding of it is that these are scanned texts from University libraries (primarily) and that the texts themselves are out of copyright. So I guess there is no reason for me to suspect that anyone is profiting from this  :)

I kind of like the idea behind the reCaptcha though...

I should probably be outraged somewhere along the line at providing free processing power for book digitizing given that at some point someone must be profiting from it, but I love the idea of electronically accessible text  8)

The contacts appeared in your Inbox ???? Doesn't sound like a good recovery tool if they don't manage to place contacts into a contacts folder.
-Carol Haynes (April 04, 2009, 04:58 AM)

Good point! Don't know why that didn't occur to me  :-[ ;D

My wife's OST file is for work - they took her notebook over a month ago to replace the harddrive and still have it... The tech guy they assigned to the computer was sick the first week or so, they replaced the HD, then discovered some other unspecified problem, and now the tech guy is on three weeks vacation... At any rate, point is that she's not willing to spend money to get at her e-mail and her employer is unlikely to cover the expense for her. Afterall, all she really needs to do is to copy the OST file onto a thumbdrive and open it from within Outlook on a computer at work. Difficulty is that she is not very teck savvy.

Anyway, thank you for the suggest re: empty PST file. If I do wind up recovering the contents of her OST for her I'll remember to do that  :)
