[Yoann Bourgeois - Fugue / Trampoline sur Metamorphosis II]

this is a real gem.
Couldnt stop watching, and at some stage just had to laugh at it.

Games generated from your list -- can you please check the words in the games and make sure the character encoding is correct?

the character coding is correct so far, but I'll have to get a native speaker to look at that list, I see one word I'm not 100% sure of (sorry, should have gotten that done first :-/)
1128
Simply translating the list wouldn't really work -- as you say, many of the words have a couple of meanings -- that would be lost in translation.

I'm not so sure -- I don't think the specific words make that big of a difference to be honest.

With the help of phitsc's Text Inspection & Manipulation Utility, I now have ~240 german words which are all 'Teekesselchen' (homonyms).

I know that might make it too easy, but how about we go with that for the moment?
and I can get a couple of people to try it out and give feedback, and maybe improve the list for a future version

^ thanks mouser

^ thanks for the wordlist mouser -- mind if I ask where you got it?
was it from that boardgamegeek.com thread? if so any chance of a link for it -- search there is not working at the moment (504 error).

Simply translating the list wouldn't really work -- as you say, many of the words have a couple of meanings -- that would be lost in translation.

Reminds me of a german spoken game:
Teekesselchen, literally meaning 'tea-kettle', but today used to mean homonym.
Two people choose a word with two different meanings, then each person 'acts' as one meaning of that word:
'I am small' 'I grow' 'I am not alive' etc. etc.
others meanwhile try and guess the word.
1131
How did you choose the word list mouser?
Are they random, or is there a logic or conditions to it?

(Wondering about creating a word list in other language/s)

First play (of duet) this evening -- I really enjoyed it :)
We got confused about the black: I thought if something was black on my list, I couldn't guess it -- but once we figured that out that I could gues them (and it was the other player could not) it was fine.

Great photo

Will we non-coders be able to create our own word lists? (I'm thinking for other languages as well.)
Yep already implemented, and unicode supported.

For the examples above, I was using RIOT, which has a simple interface (and is used as a plugin by IrfanView).

this was updated in 2016 - there may be better out there in terms of compression, but it has a good interface:

Screenshot - 2017-10-13 , 18_24_34.png

it's slow with hi-res files, but does offer to reduce resolution as you open the file.
I'm happy, e.g. the file in image there got reduced from 280 to 85KiB
[note I didn't reduce the resolution of the file]

(Note that higher compression makes very little difference but takes much longer.)

General Software Discussion / Re: Adobe Acrobat - is there an alternative?
« Last post by tomos on October 13, 2017, 04:30 AM »
What did you get in the end techidave?
Do Adobe even 'sell' Acrobat any more -- or is it all subscription?

On closer look I believe FlexiPDF would have sorted your needs (but haven't used it myself).

General Software Discussion / Re: New PDF editor: FlexiPDF from SoftMaker
« Last post by tomos on October 13, 2017, 04:26 AM »
I'm looking at this again because Softmaker has an offer this weekend on FlexiPDF**

$19.99 https://www.ashampoo...ice-software/pdf-pro for 10 more days.

Yes, it clearly is a renamed version of FlexiPdf Pro.

initially I thought it was the only basic FlexiPDF version - but I see Ashampoo has "Find and replace across documents" which only the Pro FlexiPDF has
See
Ashampoo PDF Pro features
and
FlexiPDF feature comparision page

FWIW FlexiPDF coupon code is
flexioffer
=>
and prices in Euroworld are 25 & 35 euro respectively

^ have one of these, from Sharkroon.
Got it about 5 y.o. Still working fine. Works with 2.5 drives, even with IDE drives (probably wont get that any more though, but you probably wont need it either).

Non-Windows Software / Re: Backup my data

Hello everyone.
Thank you admin for introducing a new segment for us(MAC users). I am about to sell my Mac air in next couple of days. It carries of about 150+ gb of pictures, videos and other data. any idea of safely moving it to some other system ?? External harddisk is a rather slow process. please do suggest better ways
Thanks in advance.
Please reply the earliest.

Do you have no backup of them already?
If not, go for it: copy them to the external HDD. That *will* take a long time - just leave it run for a day, or overnight.

Was thinking of taking the jump
(my install is 1.70.0.1100 -- what can I say :-\ it doesnt auto-update nor even prompt)

Screenshot - 2017-10-06 , 10_19_04.png

4wd, wondering what the exact number of the file you installed was?
You can see there what they now offering -- I'm presuming they've updated it since, but cannot find release notes on their site

The one I am talking about is with no special combo it just DOES things, some of which overturn 100 years of "established wisdom" except it just somehow works. Besides the weird one I mentioned, a famous category is insane combos that somehow just all amount to getting one piece. Then you just lose from level 1 see above.

Below a couple videos from another channel I started following (agadmator's Chess Channel). I like him a lot -- he's got a very relaxed style, but is much faster moving than the other channel above.

Following on from your quote there:
Two interesting untypical games (especially the first). Both with interesting back-stories, both played by humans :p
