i just wonder how such people make it through a complete day without running into a fatal accident. seems like an absolute miracle that they make it into maturity and reproduce.
Public servants aren't born, they are trained to behave like that  ;D

General Software Discussion / Re: CLCL Clipboardmanager - random discussion
« Last post by brotherS on March 24, 2006, 11:07 PM »
Yes, in ClipX you could use the hotkey to pop up the history of the last (say 50) clipboard entries and just hit "s" to search them! Very helpful, every clipboard manager should have that IMHO.

Since that is a rather special question you might not get many answers from DC members. In that case I suggest you try Google, then the Winamp forum, then maybe one or two forums of (smaller) radio stations that are using what you want.

Good luck!

brotherS, when you say adblock, do you mean adblock plus?

AdBlock Plus vs. AdBlock Normal?
When I say AdBlock I mean AdBlock :) --> http://adblock.mozdev.org/

I didn't test that "plus" version.

Oh yeah, bag-head guy +++!

@AbteriX: CLCL really looks like a powerful app, it it could do everything ClipX can I'm willing to consider to switch :)
1132
it's not just that freer is not always better, but also: more powerful does not mean better.
you have to decide how much time you want to spend customizing and learning, tweaking, etc.
I believe more powerful IS better for just anyone, but ONLY if all those features are added in a user-friendly way. The average user should still be able to use a program, the pro user could then enable more options or head to the advanced settings.

I like ToxMox' latest version best, also slave138' idea of putting some emphasis to "DC" (marking the D and the C)!

I used to use Firefox' AdBlock extension, and so I was skeptical at first - but now I'm really happy that I switched: AdBlock really seems to have a memory leak, since I'm now having no more memory issues with Firefox! It's also great that it works for every browser!

I felt I need to quote myself, it's so cool that Firefox finally stays below 100 MB RAM usage even when I run it for more than 24 hours!

(Yes, LOTS of tabs are opened all the time here)

General Software Discussion / Re: Free (and opensource) Hotkey Tool - Tip!
« Last post by brotherS on March 23, 2006, 08:27 AM »
I stopped using it this week, because I found that it was hogging the keyboard hook that allows Google Desktop Search 3's neat Quick Search Box, and frankly I would rather have that than HotKeys, especially since TrueLaunchBar can give me all the hotkeys I need.
Another thing I miss(ed) is the lack of options: it seems you can't change that "5 second period" to show the interface - and I'd also like to use a key kombination instead of the Windows key (which I prefer to use for AHK stuff).

Ok, why don't you write a Proxomitron Mini-Review then? :) Is it as easy to set up?

Here's a program with one of the best ratings over at http://fileforum.bet...Muncher/1031644604/1

http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/3743/dcpostadmuncherreviewfileforum.png

Publisher's Description:
Ad Muncher removes adverts, popups, and general browsing annoyances from all popular browsers and Web-utilizing programs. It also removes banners displaying and popup generating programs like ICQ, Morpheus, Kazaa, Grokster, iMesh, BearShare, LimeWire, etc.

I used to use Firefox' AdBlock extension, and so I was skeptical at first - but now I'm really happy that I switched: AdBlock really seems to have a memory leak, since I'm now having no more memory issues with Firefox! It's also great that it works for every browser!

Ad Muncher has LOTS of options (great!) which you do not *need* to change to be able to use it (so even people who do not know their PC from the inside out will love it), but *could* change for some fine-tuning. For example you can add pages that you want to support to the "no filtering" category. I'll add here the *good and friendly* pages that I'm visiting, since they deserve to get some money from ads:

http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/5764/dcpostadmuncherreviewconfig18x.png

The list of default filters is really impressive, huh?

http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/1940/dcpostadmuncherreviewconfig24w.png

Lots of nice options here - I HATE it when sites change the window size... now I LOVE that I will never see that again :)

http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/1713/dcpostadmuncherreviewconfig34w.png

Ad Muncher comes with an in-built email-the-devs feature and live chat/tech support (using IRC) - I love programs that include something like that, very helpful for newbies!

You can also see how much insanity Ad Muncher protected you from:

When you download it it has a 30 days trial version - so go ahead and get it NOW at http://www.admuncher.com/ :)

Still not yet convinced? Take a look:

Sure, but I was thinking: "why use a program where I need to press a key down for 5 seconds when right now I can start programs in 1 second?"
That's all :)

"Rainy Day" color scheme, not windows theme, sorry :) (ie, desktop properties -> apperance tab -> color scheme dropdown).
Ah... :)

It's called slate here - and it matches the color perfectly:

You misunderstood - and I've should've used "seek time" instead of "search time".
Yep - and I misunderstood on purpose - that was just too good an opportunity to let it pass :)

www.meebo.com is no scam:

Found on http://www.techcrunc...rms-sequoia-funding/ :
Meebo confirmed the rumor that they have received funding from Sequoia Capital on their blog.

Found on http://blog.meebo.com/?p=78 :
December 18th, 2005 at 11:41 am
[…] For a while, the word on the street has been that Meebo, barely 13 weeks old has been out raising some cash. But did they? Apparently yes! The amount of money they have raised is $3.5 million, at about $9 million pre-money valuation from Sequoia Capital, and Roelof Botha has joined the company’s board. The company has been growing pretty rapidly, about 250,000 logins and 7 million messages as of yesterday, and the Meebo Musketeers have built a good platform. […]

Respect!

I have mainly used Miranda and Yahoo chat, but also Windows Messenger, Skype, and Google Talk.
[...]
For the last year or so I have stuck with Trillian, simply because I find it easy to setup and operate - flirted a bit with buying the pro version, but decided against it.
Did you read what taichimaster said in https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1201.0 about Trillian and Miranda?

I've been thinking more recently of just using www.meebo.com, since that would allow me to run one fewer program.  Actually, that said, I very rarely fire up my messenger program - or Skype, or Gizmo - since they're just a drag on my system while my friends slowly catch up on using this kind of technology to stay in touch.
Miranda for example doesn't use many resources, it's no drag at all :)

www.meebo.com could have a bright future, if they develop the idea to its full potential! I doubt that I would replace my Miranda (it's just TOO damn good and customizable! and there's no IRC in meebo!), but it's the perfect solution for when you are using a different/public PC and can't run Miranda from your USB stick there.

I use Verizon Wireless.  It's a voice based message system.  Instead of typing you actually talk to the other person.  It's kind of weird, but I think it'll catch on.
I don't think so... I'd find it annoying to always listen to voice messages. I prefer unobtrusive text messages, presented by Miranda :)
