Direct consequence of voting for one party, getting mad at it, going to the other but later returning to the first. It's easy to say that politicians (and judges, some of which are elected) are 'evil'. But when they are not punished there is no incentive for them to be for the people.

Locking out a massive user base (those who have used desktop forever and still need to) will not be easy. ... Even Apple would have failed if they want/wanted that fully on Mac computers.

Uh, Apple does it all the time. Remember the transition from 68000 to Powerpc?
From classic os to os x?
From Powerpc to x86?

Just dump the old API. Provide a crude emulator. Let the PR machine roll and tell the story that the emulator works marvellously, and you shouldn't need it anyway.

Wait and see that the PR machine of MS telling the story of how you don't need legacy desktop applications anyway, and if you need them, there is a virtualization solution in win9.

Granted that Microsoft does not have the hypnotism powers Apple has over the media, this may fail, but the failure is far from certain.

Yes, but to me hardware changes or programs not running on new code is very different than having the walled garden.
The temptation to do the former has existed at MS too, for a long time, believe me.

Locking out a massive user base (those who have used desktop forever and still need to) will not be easy. Remember Apple did it - at least as a start - with something that was practically a new device altogether (iPod, iPhone). Even Apple would have failed if they want/wanted that fully on Mac computers.

Am I the only one here who believes in the cleansing goodness of a good curse filled rage-based primal scream?

I do that when I am alone and no one around to hear me  :P

I remember I had an issue with the CH+S database years ago, didn't even report it...things happen, sometimes it is a serious bug other times the pc or user himself. It is not really relevant if mouser minds the tone or not.

My :two: cents.

Living Room / Re: $10 for a Facebook Post? Huh?
« Last post by rgdot on September 23, 2012, 12:43 PM »
If it's going to reach people already my friends or already subscribing I will just re-post 5 times a day.
If a company started doing that, I kinda expect that followers would get pissed.

Ah well, we're seeing the beginning of investors wanting to monetize facebook. This will only get worse with time <3

It's already being done, if you disguise it as a blog post and post the link many times and then write a part II. The question is what the $10 buys you, targeted 10 impressions is better than million random places or places I can just 'spam' myself.

Whose feeds? How does it even work? Just bumping it up and 'promoting' on your friends' or subscribers' time line?!

Please tell me that's not the case

That's hardly a good deal even if for a million people. If it's going to reach people already my friends or already subscribing I will just re-post 5 times a day.

Before skwire or someone else chimes in with a better (and correct!) answer try another directory. Not Program Files, instead on the desktop for example.

Message Annotation

This could be big, the features page doesn't make it sound like anything though

Editing / Annotation

Edit inbox messages just like a word processor.

I guess I will try to see.

I want to thank Microsoft for Windows 8 - I really do.

I published an article in 3 local newsletters about what is coming in Windows 8 and have got a lot of work building new Windows 7 boxes and upgrading Vista and XP before 7 disappears off the shelves.

Thanks Microsoft. ;-)

Please write a blog post about this so I can share  ;D ;D
