The main reason I didn't respond to suggest Surfulater is that the O.P. seemed to be looking for something that would work well with Opera.  Surfulater used to be able to do so, thanks to some instructions in Surfulater's old forum.  However, as far as I can tell, those instructions no longer work with Opera 11.11 (the current version).  According to some messages in the Opera forum, the problem began with Opera 11.01.  It's a pity, because Surfulater is a terrific (though admittedly rather pricey) program.

I remember being interested in Surfulater before I bought UR (I seem to remember reports of UR capturing web pages more accurately) and have kept half an eye on it since. Never enough to buy it even on BdJ days. And I do already have quite a lot of ways of doing this, so there has to be a compelling reason to acquire another. Always open to compelling reasons though. Working with Opera might be one; although I cope OK with using other browsers when I'm acquiring info, it would be much more convenient to always do it in the one I am using.

For instance, after dropping an indeterminate number of clips, every drop becomes one (1) particular clip.  Only thing I've found to cure that is to kill, then restart, URP.  But it shouldn't be happening, and it's likely something else running is interfering.  However, I can't afford the time to hunt that particular needle - it's a big haystack  .

Completely agree.
And UR is very complex. My own approach was like my normal approach to many even slightly complex programs - a few minutes here and there seeing what it does, reading the forum regularly etc over a long period of time before I decided I got it and it would do some aspect of what I wanted and started actually using it. Pretty much the complete opposite of your situation.

Even though they are selected in the View | Choose Columns (?) menu window.  That is, both Web site and URL are selected, but neither shows in the item attributes window.

I don't have either of those boxes clicked there  
What I do have it those attributes ticked in the menu - Tools>Attributes  
And I bring up the Attributes panel by the menu - View>Other Windows>Item Attributes (or just CTRL 4)  
CTRL 5 brings up the item notes (or otherwise just go through the same View menu)

And for some reason, the UR folk apparently don't believe that, even with screen shots  .  I don't doubt that the product is good, but it simply does not perform as advertised on my system.  My next step, when time allows, is to deinstall, reinstall, see if something went awry in the original install.  That seems more and more likely, as new [non] events occur  .

I do sort of understand where they are coming from. This sort of thing just works in UR - as long as you know or can work out how to do it. It is, to my mind, rather like Directory Opus: lots and lots of possibilities and controls - but so many places to do it and so many things you need to understand. I don't think I ever read the manual; I did find some really informative key posts in the forum written by the developers. Just a question of finding the ones you need. My guess it is not your install that is a problem, just your settings somewhere.

To make that a bit more clear, a list of URLs is intrinsically worthless, since there's no indication what that URL references until you click on it.  Sorry if I misunderstand, but I've had that result.  Oh, yeah, it's also difficult, if not impossible, to edit the note attached to that URL.

Two egs: one in the child pane at the bottom, one in the attributes pane at the side.

Easy to attach notes etc if you want.

One just a copy page instruction, the other just a copy selection instruction. URL collected and saved without any other action.

Easy to do. I think you must have captured them. Are you sure you are actually seeing what you have got? I always go to the data hierarchy one up from the level I'm looking at (or higher) & look at the URL column in the child list (you do have to have marked that column as one you wish to see).

Which version are you using?  Does it have the "Univqersal Clipper," and if so, does that work with FF5?

V4.  No universal clipper for this one as far as I can see. I could use an old version, but I don't often use FF anyway. Pretty sure they will have a clipper working with it soon. Could also stick to v4 of FF but not really any point since I don't use it.

I'm just wondering what people are using for web clipping at the moment.
I've noticed that a number of my previous addons/extensions have stopped working with the latest versions of various browsers (eg ie & FF have broken a few).
Ultra Recall still works on FF5 but not ie9, Chrome or Opera; of course, it does work in its own browser too;
Evernote works in everything except FF5 (I assume they will update fairly soon as they seem the most active in updating);
OneNote works in ie & Chrome, but not FF5 or Opera.

I use Evernote for bits and pieces. Really useful, especially with the web access & mobile apps, but not for heavy duty work.
So at the moment, that leaves me having to use the browser that suits the prog I want to clip to (& can't rely on that always working in the future).
And neither Ultra Recall nor OneNote work in Opera, which is my favourite browser; I am used to that, of course, so I have got used to the inconvenience.
Sometimes I just use Clipmate or Snagit & organise later.

But it all leaves me wondering whether there is a better way.

I have DOpus viewer as default programme for all images, but can it be the case that I dont have to, in order for the viewer to be the default image viewer from within dopus?
Will experiment. I suspect a Catch22 situation but may well be wrong. ~ note to self: must stop having negative expectations ;-)

I double L click on image file in dopus and it opens it up in viewer, I right click on the the image in viewer and it gives me the open option which takes me to my default image opening program.

I'd choose something between the two and undecide on RAID 1.

imho, SSDs are well worth the extra cost for the extra performance you get.
But, given reports of batch (or similar duration within warranty) failures, the chance of the 2nd SSD failing when the first has done may be quite high. And all you get with the RAID is protection from the drive failure.

I would have one SSD & one HDD. I would set up frequent image backups from the SSD to the HDD. You can then keep some of the older backups and some of the more recent ones, thereby giving extra protection against viruses, accidental deletions, software installation that screws your system etc.

you're looking at images in the viewer and you see one you want to open in your image editor - you have to take note of the name, go back to the main window, find the file. A simple open [current image in viewer] in external app, or even just copy filepath would solve this.

I just checked in the viewer. I right click and one of the options is open. You would need to have set your editor up as the default program for that file type, of course.

Problems zooming into images - on my machine I often cant get over 200%, I have no problem with the same images in other viewers. I have yet to report this officially (but it was reported in the forum in 2009).

Checked this too. No problems going up to 800% with any of the images I tried.

Also problems with one bit Tiffs only showing as an enlarged thumbnail. Again, yet to be reported officially but reported in the Dopus forum here.

I have both. In many ways I prefer the USBsafelyremove. I bought Zentimo just to support them really. I suspect the real problem is getting significant numbers of people to pay for a function they think they already have in the OS and that will always limit how much anyone is prepared to pay. Both work and I always have one installed on a machine.

There will be other possibilities, but not simply about liking. There has been quite a bit of fMRI research into religion (as with many other things, including liking), so they will have known what they expected to look for with this case. AFAICS, they just looked at one fervent Apple lover & checked to see whether the pattern fitted with previous research on religious people. It should have been easy to discount most obvious alternative possibilities. But it's not a study, just a single test used given all the spin by a journalist. Doesn't mean that other Apple lovers will be the same (though the behaviour & belief of many is very similar), &, if they were, they would then expect to see the same pattern with other things that engender the same apparent fervour.

Agree with all the comments about staying away from the leading edge. That said, I'm sometimes there (eg to get USB3, SATA3) because the timing of my build meant it was either leading edge of not having those options (which I knew I did want).

For Audio Technica, I looked at their mics a while back, but everything I liked was significantly more expensive. A friend bought their USB mic and it was very nice. I forget what he paid, but it wasn't cheap either. Came with a nice stand though.

The 2020 is very cheap for what it is - the USB version costs a bit more but is also reasonably priced.

Not as cheap as the SM-58, but a good general purpose condenser mic for the studio.

The thing about Reaper is that you have to get the concepts behind the way it works, and they aren't the same as other DAWs you are used to. If you do get them, it is very powerful; but there's no getting away from the fact that it is very complex with any number of features that aren't obvious. I find it suits the way I think, but there's still a lot of stuff that will need to be discovered/learned to make full use of all its features (at least to the extent that I'd be interested in doing so); that's where the forum community comes in - there's usually someone who knows answering queries fairly quickly. I've only been playing around for it for a year or so and have a long way to go (and might have spent more time reading the forum than using the program  ). I'm certain I'd've cracked it fairly quickly with full immersion, but I have other programs I use and no spare time to allow me focus on it for a period of time.

I'd certainly recommend Reaper, even if you do soldier on with other DAWs. Very actively developed, very reasonably priced and with a very knowledgeable and helpful community; lots of veries in one package. When I think about what I'm doing/going to do, it is always with the idea that I will pull it all into Reaper in the end.

Not so sure about the Shure. Good for live voice; not so good with studio & a lot of instruments.

One other option would be to run a version of Linux from a CD (making sure it is one that has the required sound/video codecs etc). That would exclude Windows specific issues and change nothing on your system.

If you think it might be something to do with your hard drive, then run a portable player + mp3 from a memory stick (or just load both into RAM if you have a RAM disk). That would also make sure they are using a local codec, so no issues from any that are already installed.

Liquid Story Binder XE looks really complex but I'm intrigued is there ample documentation included with the program to help figure it out because  without that I can see myself getting lost quickly.

Manual here and Online Tutorials here. Lots of help available in the forum. IIRC, the developer's general advice is for people to start off using just a few types of screen/file type and then add others as they feel the need; I don't think most people use anything like all the options and which ones are useful depends on what you are writing. You can make it very simple if you want.

But he's not throwing the money away. There is an advantage to things failing within the warranty period.

I was going to say that there can't be a real need for 240GB, but then I thought of apps that make massive use of lots of scattered bits of data files to work (eg DAWs). and I can see that I might start thinking that it might be worth it.

I use a SSD for my OS & apps; I don't use it for any data at all. I take and keep images of the SSD fairly frequently which I keep on HDDs. If/when the SSD fails, I will replace it with another. The speed of the SSD is well worth the higher price - to me anyway.

I don't think Evernote 2.2 was free, at least my version wasn't.

Business plans changed when Evernote was taken over by someone with a clear idea of where they wanted to take it. And had the program completely rewritten.

I should have put it better: handing over control of my data.  I would feel very vulnerable if it was only stored on their servers.

Agreed - except that the cloudy versions always have a copy on the HDD too. I don't think there's a way of making it cloud only (I suspect using sync minimises their transfer costs).

I doubt it would remain free very long, but, I thought the storage was part of what you paid for when you paid for Evernote > 2.2.  I don't want to go on paying for evermore...

All versions of Evernote are free (well, since they were taken over they have been). The free version allows datebases ("notebooks") to be synced to the cloud or just kept locally. What you get if you pay is a much bigger upload limit (1GB a month rather than 60MB) and the ability to sync any file type instead of just PDF, images & audio. I'm willing to pay if I need it, but have never wanted to sync other file types or upload more than I do.

Apart from the sync with the cloud, the big issue a lot of 2.2 users had was the inability to organise/reorganise by switching around in a note hierarchy. I've come around on that eventually since I do use the cloud availability. They do have tags - better now than they were - but it is still not the old functionality. But then, if I need that I just use Ultra Recall instead    I always did only use Evernote for snippets.
