I'd expect 1 name (and not my own) to "stand out from the crowd", here

i must admit, i don't see any difference, though in my browser there is one.  The current forum code uses inline html <strong> to indicate buddies; let me change it to use css and lets see if that fixes it.
I checked page-source in Pale Moon, and even though 1 of my buddies is on-line, one of the <a> tags has an attribute <strong>, but it's not visibly different from the other items :-\

Then I fired up Chrome, and checked the source, (in the meantime a second buddy came on-line) to see this <strong><a href="https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=987654321" style="color: #0000FF;">user</a></strong> (userid and name hidden to protect the innocent) for the first buddy-user next to my name, giving it a blue color (strong isn't really recognizable), and this: <strong><a href="https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=987654322">user2</a></strong> for another user, making it totally not distinguishable from other users in the list :o

This looks like a bug(gy) in the buddy module.

The only difference I currently see is for the members that I clicked on their name to view their profile. Admins used to be red (saw that when you had un-hidden your status for a short while) and buddies used to be boldface, and possibly dark-blue, but it was quite different from both 'visited link' and 'un-visited link'. Now buddies aren't recognizable at all.

General Software Discussion / Re: urgent free AVG expired request!
« Last post by Ath on September 06, 2015, 01:13 PM »
Well, I've told before about my 'adventures' with AVG, and that I ditched it years ago because it was hogging the system to a crawl, even on an i7 860 (quad-cure, with HT) running off of a SSD. A couple of months ago I re-tried AVG on my system, and ditched it for exactly the same reasons.

I fail to understand a) Why AVG can't deliver their services like (most) other A/V packages with a normal resource-usage, and b) Why people are still using (and even buying :o) that system-hog application???
Yes, this is a honest question (I don't expect the a) part to be answered, btw :P).

Well, I think the set of bbc-buttons is quite on-par with the purpose of the (quick)reply forms.

I'd be more interested in getting the buddy-list visible in the current user list at the forum-frontpage by them having a different color (or colour for the UK based members) like old dc had

You might want to add a hex/dec/oct conversion option to attract the tech-savvy crowd here, but it looks refreshingly different in the awfully white Win10 world

You may be looking at an Avast (or other antivirus product) inserted certificate :o
Ath, can you explain, i don't get it.
Some AV programs insert their own certificate in your browser and man-in-the-middle your HTTPS connections in order to be able to scan/filter them.

The ones I've seen are usually not using the best encryption, probably because they only serve to re-encrypt the traffic locally for your browser.
^This.

After the forum-upgrade there where https-issues, then I looked at what FF reported on the certificate, and I saw both SHA-1 and SHA-256 encryption listed. After the https-issues where resolved I didn't check anymore, but now I only see SHA-1 encryption listed, even with Avast https checking enabled  Must have been related to the https-issues then.
The Avast mitm fake-CA reports SHA-256 encryption for itself, though.

Any opinions on this?  Looking at DC's certificate, I think I also see SHA-256 so may be it's not a problem.
Nope: (not SHA-256) so, Yes, it's a minor problem for Chrome and Firefox(based) browsers.

the list of active users, including buddies (not yet (3) highlighted like old DC had, hope that's returning too,
This is probably another css setting to tweak? Buddies aren't recognizable from the logged-in users-list at the bottom of the forum front-page

like (4) buddy management in the profile that I couldn't find yet)
Found it 8), it's pretty hard to find using a tablet (no mouse-hover fly-out menu's)

What do people think of the default option to show a popup messagebox when you receive a new personal message on the forum?
I'd like to turn it off, but it didn't happen often enough yet to dive into my profile setting to find that setting :-[

(1) I can't recognize the links that I've read from the ones I haven't read; On old DC the link-color changed after visiting he link, but on DC2 the link color stays exactly the same :o This may be due to the color-scheme in the theme, I can't tell, but it is a nuisance hunting down the unread links from the Active Topics list.
This issue seems to have been tweaked out, thanks!

In the "Info Center - Active Topics" section would it be possible to re-enable the feature where it shows "Re:" at the start of the title for posts that are replies (as opposed to brand new threads without any replies)? This made it possible to distinguish at first sight between a new post without replies, and an older discussion with new replies.

fixed -- and discovered a substantial inefficiency in the code making that list, so forum should be a little faster to load now too.
Now there is only one thing missing from the Active Topics list: (1) I can't recognize the links that I've read from the ones I haven't read; On old DC the link-color changed after visiting he link, but on DC2 the link color stays exactly the same :o This may be due to the color-scheme in the theme, I can't tell, but it is a nuisance hunting down the unread links from the Active Topics list.
Unlike mouser, I also look at this list when returning to the DC browser-tab, press refresh and see a couple of new/updated messages.
From that same workflow comes the request (of others, but I'm joining) (2) to have an Unread Replies button/link at the bottom of the forum frontpage, like old DC had :-[ it also has the list of active users, including buddies (not yet (3) highlighted like old DC had, hope that's returning too, like (4) buddy management in the profile that I couldn't find yet) and the latest new member that I try to recognize for palindrome- and other nice numbers :tellme:

So that's 4 issues/requests... 8)

Finally, or at last ;D, I've been able to again capture a palindrome user-id, 491194:

Screenshot - 30-08-2015 , 20_20_49.png
Unfortunately, it does seem to be a forum-spammer, for what I've seen. >:(

Even though I don't recognize any Cyrillic writing...

NB: The new forum-theme makes it much easier to capture the name combined with the user-id :)

Another issue:
Some users seem to have lost their Avatar (f.e. Contro, Innuendo) in 'favor' of some default forum-avatar. Most likely because the list of forum-avatars has been revisited/added to/removed from (aka: renumbered). (Some of us are OK as we've uploaded a custom avatar 8))

can you give me the url of the pages where this happens?
The front-page of the forum... ('Active Topics' as the previous list of Recent Posts is now called)

Edit: Post #11 has a changed title, but it didn't show like that in the Active Topics list when it was the most recent

Another funny fact:
The recent list shows the original title of the thread, instead of the title (subject) of the last post of the thread (testing this now by inserting 'your' in the subject)
<snipped>
Advantage to me is that https refreshes the page when backing out a thread to the Recent list :-[ Very useful when on a tablet.
Additional advantage of showing the actual title of the last post is/was that most browsers display the link as 'visited', in a somewhat different color, after it's read, so any new messages can be easily recognized when refreshing the browser after returning to the page after some time (from other work). So yes, this is a feature I'd like to return

HTTPS does seem to work OK now, tested on Windows (FireFox and Edge), Android Phone (FireFox) (tablet is on the charger, I'll test that later)
Just tested on the tablet with Firefox on Android and all is fine there too, now that https is set up correctly

Now switched to Windows, and Firefox on Windows only started behaving somewhat decent after disabling Avast WebShield HTTPS scanning, as it inserts a fake root certificate, probably unacceptable to Mozilla.

The Donationcoder.com StartCom SSL certificate does support both SHA256 and SHA1 encryption, and SHA1 (with expiration after January 1st 2016) is declared unsafe by Google (first) and Mozilla (hours later), even though it should be accepted with expiration date until January 1st 2017 :'( (See SHA1 Deprecation)

Another funny fact:
The recent list shows the original title of the thread, instead of the title (subject) of the last post of the thread (testing this now by inserting 'your' in the subject)

Edit: Confirmed.

NB Could the http/https issue be a webserver setting? All links, like the Reply button switch over to http when startjng off on https.

Advantage to me is that https refreshes the page when backing out a thread to the Recent list :-[ Very useful when on a tablet.

Funny fact: When accessing the forum using https, the recent post links at the bottom connect over http :o (https wasn't available/tested in the trial conversion)
