Banking giant JPMorgan Chase may drop support of some popular browsers because they do '...not all offer the minimum levels of security that we require while others may not perform well with our site.' After July 18 you may not be able to access the website with a browser that they do not support. The list of browsers they currently support seems outdated: Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher, Firefox 2.0 and higher, and Safari 3.0 and higher (for Macs only). With usage of IE6 plummeting and concerns about its security well known, the inclusion of that browser seems suspect. On the other extreme, rising star Chrome appears to be left out, too. What does Google think of that?

Chase website FAQ

What are “supported browsers”?
Supported browsers are browsers that we consistently use and test with our site to help provide a secure experience for our customers. More than 95% of our customers use at least one of the browsers we support.
We currently support the following browsers:

    * Internet Explorer® 6.0 and higher
    * Firefox® 2.0 and higher
    * Safari® 3.0 and higher (for Mac systems only)

Note: After July 18, 2010, you may not be able to access our website with a browser we do not support.

This bodes as another blow for Opera. I feel chrome support will be restored as chrome is gaining in usage every month.

Living Room / Comcast wins "Worst Company In America" Award for 2010

After two years as a bridesmaid in Consumerist's Worst Company In America tournament, it was finally the cable company's time to walk down the aisle when it was handed the WCIA crown this morning. And now that Comcast has tasted victory, it's not asking for seconds.

In a statement released after hearing this morning's news, a rep from Comcast says the company is taking it seriously:

“We’re working everyday to improve our customers’ experiences with us, including offering a Customer Guarantee that’s backed by significant operational changes. We’ve taken steps over the past two years to improve our product reliability and service, and if a problem does occur, we work to quickly to resolve it, find the root cause and make changes so it won’t happen again."

Microsoft office is already terminal server compatible (Install on server, run on client on demand). Has been since O2K.

I upgraded. There are several features regarding tables, document formatting, excel vba functionality, powerpoints master slide editing abilities as well as slide options and various other small tweaks that make using the software that much easier. The ribbon is now standard across all applications which makes me very happy. I can customize each ribbon and make it function in any way I want. I can remove ribbons and have a single one which hides when I need it to so I can maximize screen real estate while working on a large document.

That said, I own two licenses to 2010. One Pro and one Pro Plus, both either free through technet or very cheap through my university. Yes, 350 (250 per year renewal) bucks for a technet subscription which gives me license keys to every MS product for personal use is fantastic and a great investment.

So yes, I upgraded and will continue to use MS Office as no other solution is as robust, easy to use, or functional. OOo does not hold a candle although I will recommend it to someone who has no means to find a cheaper copy, although a simple google search will return enough results for cheap copies of the suite.

Every one of my search results has had the result I am looking for in the top 3 depending on search terms used, usually the first is what I require. No change noticed here.

It was more of a hypothetical, not a real call for people to disclose. I grow weary of listening to persons who have never dealt with this type of system before talk as thou they are the end-all-be-all when it comes to knowledge on a subject. Information is classified for a reason. Some persons might think this is to cover up something illegal happening but often times even those in the know do not know everything. The only thing I say is when claims such as this are made, please realize that while you might know one piece, there are probably 200 other pieces to a puzzle. On that note, I gracefully withdraw my comment above as it was not intended to have people violate their NDA.

Apple has just outed a press release for Safari 5, which curiously didn't get a mention during the company's WWDC10 keynote, but should be ready to download any minute now. Safari Reader is making its debut, as we'd heard it might, alongside a claimed 30 percent performance improvement over Safari 4 and -- mirroring the iPhone 4 -- Bing as one of the preloaded search engine options. Google and Yahoo are still around, don't freak out. Apple is also adding in Extensions (think Firefox's Add-Ons) to the browser, allowing devs to use HTML5, CSS and JavaScript to pretty up the browsing experience.

Opera is now the only MAJOR browser to NOT support extensions. I guess all that innovating with such useful features as: Built-in torrent support, opera unite, opera turbo, and the ever-so-updated wand are just preventing them from implementing something as frivolous as extensions.

General Software Discussion / Re: Is Nero 10 returning to good form?
« Last post by Josh on June 07, 2010, 05:46 AM »
FWIW, InCD has defaulted to unselected when installing Nero.

Talk about irrelevant. Nobody discusses/uses packet writing software anymore.

Isn't that because it has been built into Windows since XP?

Why would you use InCD (or Roxio's poxy equivalent) when everyone knows they were flaky at best and media is so cheap now you may as well burn things properly in the first place.
-Carol Haynes (June 07, 2010, 05:43 AM)

Couldn't agree more. I have yet to see ANYONE use InCD in say, oh, 5-6 years. I do read the incessant ramblings of certain persons, however, about it not being compatible with AnyDVD. This is a complaint which urks me as AnyDVD should not be forced to work with a piece of software that is deprecated.

Roboform has apparently decided to stop waiting for opera to implement a decent API and as such has a pre-alpha build of RF which "works" with opera. It works, but I have yet to fully test functionality. See here:

General Software Discussion / Re: Can i upgrade to MS-DOS v6 or v6.22

I think you are confused now. Windows XP is Windows Version 5.1.2600. That is NOT the MS-DOS Version. Microsoft stopped running version numbers after Windows 9x/me was discontinued. You do not need to upgrade DOS in any version of Windows
Can u please rephrase this statement: U do not need to upgrade DOS in any version of windows:
Because some cmd line available for v 6.22 like APPEND,ASSIGN etc etc does not run in my version of DOS:

And u were the only who said  i can upgrade to v6.x, 6.22 etc

That is when I thought you were talking about the actual MS-DOS 5 product, not the COMMAND PROMPT included in Windows XP. You CANNOT "upgrade" the command prompt in any version of Windows. The commands you are looking for, as described above, have been deprecated (discontinued) for good reasons.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: HDMI Cables: $0.60
« Last post by Josh on June 05, 2010, 07:33 AM »
Thing to note about reviews are that the ones with problems will always be the most vocal. A good portion of the time, if someone does NOT have a problem with a product, they do NOT come back to review it. The opposite is true for when a problem occurs. When a problem occurs, people often times feel the need to make sure they DO post or inform people about the issue. Reviews are a double edged sword. If I were to rely solely on reviews, I would never buy anything as a good portion of reviews out there, not professionally or commercially backed but done by an individual end-user, are negative as they will always be the most vocal.

Why not buy a 60 cent cable? If the ends start corroding in a year or so, I buy another one. Why waste all of that money on a higher end cable? Digital signals are digital signals.

If you type VER at the command prompt, you can find out which version you are using. Or you can use the old MS INFO tool (msinfo.exe or MSO.exe i believe). And yes, you can upgrade from 6 to 6.22 or 5 to 6.22

Why not charge him with involuntary manslaughter? He left his gun out and the child shot and killed themselves with it. Leaving the gun unsecured like that should immediately result in his prison sentence.

My signature was about the idea of opera forcing MS to advertise for them via the ballot window for browsers. It solved nothing and is being "clicked through" like every other addon such as this has been in the past.

I don't see how letting him off will set any sort of precedent for people who leave their guns lying around for a child to access, loaded none-the-less.

But, if you teach something to try and enforce change, aren't you then setting up the people being educated for failure if they are being taught something they won't use, as was in my original comment? I am not saying not to try and enforce change, but if you are going to do it there has to be some basis and validity to the change and not doing it to try and change a standard that is, after all, a standard in the workforce.

Also, my "in the real world" certainly does NOT mean "just because". "Just because" would be used if the schools indeed forced students to learn something that major players in the job market are not using. Like it or not, MS Office is the standard and will remain so until major players switch away from it. Switching just because a software suite is "free" is not a good enough reason if the software switch involves massive retraining and additional support costs when the software does not work in a way that is intuitive to the end-user.
