N.A.N.Y. 2015 / Re: NANY Pledge: Dedicated Windows client for Slack
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on October 20, 2014, 06:40 PM »
OK, There is only so long I am willing to wait for somebody from Slack to e-mail me back, and I think 5 days is long enough.  If they do decide they have a problem with me releasing this, then I will deal with it as and when.

I will be releasing the Software within the next 45 minutes.

For the moment, you CANNOT save login sessions.  What this means is when you close SlackyApp and open it back up again, you have to login to Slack...It isn't a HUGE problem or hassle for now so I am not hugely focused on getting this feature functional for the moment.

If you do have any feature requests, then please let me know.

Current feature requests waiting to be added to my list: (See first post)

Living Room / Re: when will we eventually be able to
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on October 20, 2014, 04:44 PM »
hello!

when will we eventually be able to go to a petrol station, fill our car, and pay automatically, contactless, instantly?

by a system that will recognize our plate and charge our account accordingly?

ok, if you want we can enter our pin to authorise the transaction, but for me personally it isn't necessary

thanks!

Have you heard of this new invention called the wheel?

oh we don't have it here in UK
where are you based? do you have it?

You do realise we have Contactless payment available at Tesco Petrol stations amongst many many others...for the most part, ASDA petrol stations are unmanned and require you to enter your Credit Card before pumping fuel...which...to be honest...if you are refueling...you are going to be standing around anyway, so it's not like you could be doing anything other than standing there...so it doesn't really take extra time

In terms of having the car analyse the fuel you are putting in...that already happens...on my car (Ford Focus 2013 model) it will NOT open the filler cap unless it "Smells" unleaded fuel...if it "Smells" diesel, it just simply refuses to allow it - So analyzing these things already happens on most modern cars

Eisleigh is only ten months old, and already has a best friend.  Clyde, a pit bull puppy, born just weeks after Eisleigh, has taken to her as if she were a litter mate.  This video, originally posted to Instagram by Eisleigh’s mother, has got to be one of the cutest videos ever.  Watch as Clyde carefully makes his way into Eisleigh’s bouncer, and snuggle up to her so sweetly.  Her reaction is simply adorable.

Realizing just how darn cute this was, Brandi Hodges shared this video amongst friends, but wasn’t exactly prepared for what was going to happen with it.  They thought it was so cute the video made all over Instagram, a popular social networking site.  Eisleigh and Clyde became international superstars almost instantly.

2.jpg
As of yesterday, the 28th of July, the video has been watched by thousands, with 3,700 likes, and 1,700 comments.  That’s Instagram alone.  When Brandi posted the video to YouTube, it got over 1.3 million views.

According to Brandi, Eisleigh and Clyde really are the best of friends.  They spend almost all of their time together, and their favorite thing to do is take naps.  Check out this adorable video.

The only problem I'm having atm is how to store cookies so you can store your logins...difficult to work with a little known browser engine that is under-documented :(
[/quote :o

Are you using cef?
Nope, I'm using one called Awesomium. Not 100% sure what it is based on but it worked very nicely for the main functions.

To be honest, it looks like I am going to have to code together the functions for cookie and session storage myself as there doesn't seem to be a more viable solution using this engine.

Ahh well, I'll get her working :) for now, the main things are done and if you are willing to sign in each time you launch, then it isn't really an issue :)

Slack looks interesting, but I don't really know what I'd use it for. I was going to sign up so I could try it out, but it asks for a company name.

I don't want to sign up as a company. I want to sign up as an individual.

Personally I had never heard of Slack before making this...and the only real reason I have an account there is for the purposes of this Software...for company name I just put my own, it worked fine @Deo :)

Not entirely sure why you added loads of pre-defined text...but...

You want a key for WHAT exactly?

If it is for something from DonationCoder that ASKS you to visit www.donationcoder.com FOR a key...then click here https://www.donation...r.com/Keys/index.php

If not...then please enlighten us...without all the added pre-defined stuff that you didn't need to add

*edit* (He added the NANY Submission post info stuff...twice...but app103 fixed it so we didn't have to sieve though it to read what was being asked lol)

I must admit, I did like Matt Smith as the Doctor, he certainly made it his own...but Tennant was by far my favorite.  He could portray massive amounts of emotion without uttering a single word.

From what I have seen (One episode, where they have to rob a bank, and have no idea why because their memories have been wiped), Peter Capaldi isn't all that brilliant...but I shall certainly give him a chance and watch some more of his, even if it is for no other reason than "Hey...It's a Dr Who episode I have never seen) lol

Description
This is a Dedicated Windows client for Slack, with the ability to be minimized to the tray.  Inspired by DC User app103.  Slack lacked a dedicated Windows application, so I was asked to build one.  After fighting with Gecko and WebKit for Visual Studio and failing, I found a way to get it working (Slack does not work with IE).

Currently in Pre-Alpha so may contain bugs/errors and missing features.

Features
• Easily connect directly to your Slack Domain.
• Minimize To System Tray (To keep it out of the way).
• Links within the app open in your default browser so the app is NEVER directed away from Slack.com
• Status Bar:  See what links you are about to visit when you hover the mouse over them.
• Show/Hide Balloon Tip on Minimize.
• Remember the last Slack domain used, in the text box.
• Stores Cookies/Web-Sessions/Cache Locally Within The SlackyApp folder.

Planned Features
• Progress Bar: Gives you an indication that things are actually loading.

Downloading
Sometimes you may face an issue when downloading the installer and see the following:
SlackyApp Download Issue.png

Simply press the "Keep" button (Chrome) - Other browser may also have a complain about it, but there will always be a way to install it anyway!

Usage
Installation
Run the installer and follow instructions. (Follow the video below for help if you need it):

Updating
SlackyApp uses a lightweight version of DCUpdater to check for file version changes.  Simply right click the notification icon (Near your clock) and click "Update" or run Update.exe within the application folder.

Windows 8/8.1 users may get moaned at by the Operating System by a means of a large green bar across your screen telling you that I am an evil evil person that wants to steal your children and eat your pets and because I didn't pay Microsoft to recognize me as a real developer...then the Software I have made is probably completely messed up and will do stupid things to your computer.  Putting it simply...it lies...this Software will do NOTHING bad...I install NO extras into the software...no bundled toolbars, no adware, no malware, no spyware, no viruses, no keyloggers, no homepage changes, no changes to your search provider, no nag screens....the ONLY thing you will get, it SlackyApp...which does ONLY what it says on the feature list here.

I am fully open and transparent about everything I do and if you have any problems, then let me know ASAP.

Using the Application
Open and use - very simple interface.

Uninstallation
Run the Uninstaller

Known Issues
• If large amounts of data are passing through Slack at any one time (IE: Oeruse of the Giphy Integration), Window will go blank due to a possible memory leak - Bug has not been identified fully but I am aware of this happening.
• Cache and Memory not being cleared properly. - Resolution for this has been (hopefully) identified and will be resolved in the next build.

Please report any by Clicking Here.

DC Gamer Club / GamerGate: 'Press must tackle misogyny,' says developer
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on October 16, 2014, 02:32 PM »
More video game news sites must place a spotlight on the misogynistic abuse that could drive women from the industry, a developer has demanded.

Brianna Wu, who said she faced death threats after speaking out, said the sites could help change the industry's culture.

A debate is raging in the sector about claims of corrupt relationships between some developers and reviewers.

But it has also regularly veered into the issues of feminism and misogyny.

"Every woman I know is terrified that what happened to me will happen to them next. And this is a true campaign of terror on women in the field," she told BBC News.

Ms Wu fled her home on Friday 10 October after graphic sexual threats were made against her.

The next day, she shared screenshots of tweets from one user who had threatened to murder her and her family, and had posted her home address to prove they knew where she lived.

The abuse came after she shared pictures on Twitter mocking players with sexist attitudes, who had used the Twitter hashtag GamerGate.

'Drive women out'
Her latest comments coincide with Ada Lovelace Day, an annual event celebrating women's feats in technology and science.

Ms Wu, head of development at games company Giant Spacekat, also said that internet services needed to do more to help police trace those who posted abuse.

"As it currently is, when crimes occur, law enforcement frequently cannot locate the people that are doing it," she said.

"We need to get more serious as a culture about making it possible for law enforcement to act in very serious situations like this.

"GamerGate could very seriously drive most women out of the industry. I realise that's a very strong statement and I absolutely mean it. I don't know a single woman in this field who is not asking herself if she wants to stay.

Ms Wu's experience was similar to those of games reviewer Anita Sarkeesian and developer Zoe Quinn, who were also on the receiving end of abuse.

Allegations about Ms Quinn's personal relationships with journalists were presented as evidence of "possible corruption" in the industry.

Ms Sarkeesian was hounded after releasing the latest in a series of video blogs that criticised bestselling games for propagating sexist stereotypes.

Developer's Corner / Drupal Fixes Highly Critical SQL Injection Flaw
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on October 15, 2014, 09:56 PM »
Drupal has patched a critical SQL injection vulnerability in version 7.x of the content management system that can allow arbitrary code execution. The flaw lies in an API that is specifically designed to help prevent against SQL injection attacks. "Drupal 7 includes a database abstraction API to ensure that queries executed against the database are sanitized to prevent SQL injection attacks," the Drupal advisory says. "A vulnerability in this API allows an attacker to send specially crafted requests resulting in arbitrary SQL execution. Depending on the content of the requests this can lead to privilege escalation, arbitrary PHP execution, or other attacks."

We welcome all apps -- however I have bad news for you regarding receiving donations -- it's very rare to receive donations and they will be small.  that's just the reality of it.  if money is important you should try selling your software as shareware or making mobile apps that can be charged for in the store.
donationware will bring you appreciation and encouragement and interesting friends and users.  we love donationware here and we try to all support it, but the reality is that there is very very little you will receive in donations.

"If it makes some money, then brilliant...if it doesn't...then oh well.  So long as at least 1 person enjoys using it...or you enjoyed making it...then it doesn't really matter"

That is how most Software that gets released on DonationCoder is released as...it is about the fun, the programming, the friendships, and the community.  We love free Software  :D

Deo is just too damn good at this...Building all these things...and then there is me, floating around like "wut?"

What did I build? O_o

I hope you're not talking about that awful little mining spaceship. If you realized how long it took me to make it you wouldn't be in so much awe. I built it and took it apart and accidentally destroyed it and remade it several times while figuring out how the parts interact. It (my construction) is pretty lame. And time consuming!

I wish you could design something as a "3d hologram" and then start the actual construction afterward, rather than having to physically make the pieces as you design the ship.

Would be pretty nice if you could collect Blueprints, and simply select whatever it is you wanna build, and it builds itself lol

I tried building things earlier on and could not for the life of me figure out how to get anything to connect oO
