That is a really good idea as well. Some kind of alias stuff for urls, neat.

Find And Run Robot / feature request : shift+enter=internal html viewer
« Last post by kartal on June 09, 2008, 10:23 PM »
I think this would be very handy if it is implemented. For example I would type "search launchers", which would normally take me to firefox-google. How about if I press shift enter instead of enter and that would open the result window in farr`s internal viewer instead of firefox/ie/safari?

Find And Run Robot / More responsive Esc and enter?
« Last post by kartal on June 09, 2008, 03:32 PM »
Maybe I am pushing the limits but I use Farr to search 10 folders(with alot of subfolders). During any keyword search Farr is not very responsive and sometimes I need to wait until the search ends until I can press enter or esc. Is there a way to force Farr to be more responsive?

I personally do not have any objection. Browsing mode should be straight forward. One can also filter in browsing mode. Maybe we can have a (-) (+) operators in browsing mode? So one can type c:\pythong\lib -*.py +*.pyc which would remove all .py but show only .pyc in the current search? Maybe for convenience + operator would put whatever is defined with the operator on top of the search without blocking anything else ? If we can introduce + - operators then *.extension expression  could just work as it is currently.

Find And Run Robot / Farr should not ignore files in browsing mode?
« Last post by kartal on June 09, 2008, 12:44 PM »
I see that Farr would  ignore certain file types-files if they have minus rules in browsing mode. That is really usefull for searching but not when browsing.

For example if I have a rule for *.py that is -8000, Farr would not show them if I try to browse (ie c:\python\lib). Is there a way to make this work differently for different situations like searching versus browsing?

1108
I tried that with wds before and it did not work. I would doubt that it would work with wds 4 either.

Windows Desktop Search Thunderbird  maybe these work for you?
1109
How about an Rss plugin that works well with new html viewing mode?

1110
Sure, I can use grep to search emails. But it just does not look nice and hard to deal with visually. Unless I am desperate I would not use WDS or grep to search my emails.

Also WDS does not even support outlook express contacts which is a shame. I have just  checked v4 format list and Outlookm express .wab format was not listed there.

This one seems very nice. I just installed on my laptop. It has relatively small memory print.

Find And Run Robot / Re: How to increase scoring of item ?

Mouser, this behaviour does not happen here . I have tried "enter" ctr+numpad,"F keys" and none of them really increases hit. Is there a way to make sure that this works fine? For some files it seems to work for some other it seems to not work. I have certain programs and I keep using Farr to launch them. Everytime I try to launch them I need to wait 4 5 secs until Farr finds them in the directories.

Another REALLY IMPORTANT thing for people to remember:
FARR gives a big bonus to any program as soon as you launch it once.  so if the file you want to launch comes up not quite first place on your initial search -- it's very likely that after you launch it once, it will be at the top next time, and forever after, without you needing to take any corrective action.  it will also be found much quicker next time because it is in the FARR history cache.

Is  mybloop.com a hoax? Unlimited file storage?

-Its desktop application also installed Dealio tool bar and some search setting tool without asking me. It was greyed out in the installation window.
-When I tried to upload a file that is 40 mb it kept crashing.

I am also using Adrive for storing files. For mp3s only, I am using mybloop.com.

To my best knowledge the best way is to create a serverless multiple nodes system where everyone stores eachother`s data for eachother. But files should be encrypted in this case even thou storage is shared between trustees. So yes I would definetely support community based backup system where everyone is eachother`s insurance.

I personally do not want to spend over 30$ a year for online storage. All the options are expensive for me. I am thinking another solution which involves my brother who lives in another country. I will setup a private p2p server (sourceforge has some free private network applications) between my computer and my brother`s. I may even buy Powerfolder to do this which is a cheaper solution. Most of the commercial solutions out there is good for 5 10 gb backup but I need to backup very very huge files and projects that becomes very prices for me(over 80gb of project data, 40 gb of personal files, photos, and alot of mp3s). And to be honest I do not trust those applications provided by these commercial online storage companies. I have seen very quirky implementations like Xdrive. Fabolous free service but I would never trust its desktop application.

I used Adrive to store some files and share with friends it work fine. But biggest minus is the fact that it is only web application, no webdaw or ftp support.

My main problem with WDS is that it does not support thunderbird at all.

WDS is better in email handling, but it's tooooo slow. It slow down every things in my computer, I have to give it up.

Adrive`s website states that there will be premium service that would offer more than 50gb. In that respect 50gb service will stay free?

from theirf faq

Will my ADrive account ever expire?
ADrive does not delete nor expire any confirmed accounts. Also, your current ADrive account will not be affected after we leave our Beta version. With the launch of version 1.0, you can upgrade to one of our new storage plans once you are signed in to your account.

I just tried netdrive(which I have not been aware of before) and it works great (tested only under 32bit), also free for home users.

Thanks for the discount btw I had considered Webdrive in the past and it was pricey for me.

Expectations are going higher as well.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: RecentX at Bits du Jor, 4-Jun-2008
« Last post by kartal on June 05, 2008, 11:14 PM »
Recentx is not a bad application at all. But it does not meet my own expectations. For example I want to be able to create a group and drag and drop files to group. Recentx has only live search based groups. Also it looks like it cannot detect all the opened files if application is using non standard gui. But history based document and application search can serve very well for many people.
