You might not want to do that on a leather, vinyl, metal, or finished wood chair. Some surfaces should not have prolonged contact with skin, especially in summer. Think diner booth + shorts + peeling your upper thighs off when it's time to leave and you get the picture.

Just out of curiosity, are you using only a few test contacts? Or did you toss the entire phone book at it out of the gate? It's possible a corrupt entry - or the massive size of you legendary contacts list - may be causing the issue.

The issue as I understand it is booting to a partition larger than 2TB, not necessarily having one. If this is to be a file server, then the goal IMO should be to have a maximum sized single storage partition. There is no valid reason why the users would need access to the file servers OS files.

Put the OS on a separate 100GB partition. Then copy over the old 2GB partition, convert it to GPT, and resize it to take up the rest of the remaining space.

When applying 3TByte disks in my computers I always had to use software from Seagate that enabled my computers to make use of storage capacity above 2TByte and always ended up with 2 (GPT) partitions in the process (one of 2TByte and one with the remaining storage space). Happened even on a Asus motherboard that I bought less than a year ago.

I remember Seagate's DDO software from years ago (Win2k days), when the IIRC 8 GB limit was all the rage. It had three very bad habits then...that I would still suspect it of pulling now:

It never verified if it's presence was actually necessary, it just auto installed.
It made it impossible for Win2k to boot, because it was just in the way.
It was next to impossible to find and remove - I basically had to beat it to death with a hammer while suffering through a ton of dire and ominous "warnings" before it finally released its demonic hold on the drive. Now after the exorcism the drive - which previously couldn't make it through the 2k install without BSODing - ran Win2k perfectly for several years.

Set one up as a temporary for an underfunded NP about 3 years back. It worked for them with about 20 users for half a year. Can't really say more about it than that. Ideal? Hardly. But it got the job done.

I'm currently running straight MS IIS POP/SMTP. It ain't feature rich - the Exchange server at the office spoiled the hell outta my ass - but it does what I need ... Although aliases would be nice..

They eventually shifted over to a hosted service once they got better funding. Which made sense. They really couldn't afford IT support on their budget.

I generally don't bother "budgeting" for IT But I do have to budget my time, so moving parts need to be kept to a manageable minimum. There are obvious risks to self hosting and I don't need to complicate them with flakey systems that want to tie into things they don't need to...or are unnecessarily complicated in their implementation.

If you have serious security concerns, I'd probably forget about freebie solution for email.

Not a damn thing. I actually love it ...(for MySQL administration)... I just thought it was a really odd thing for a mail server to require.

...It's also a 4 day holiday weekend - which has been total shit, because -  I've got some kind of flu, and I'm feeling a bit old and tired of having to keep up with all of this shit.

Take a look at hMailServer. It's about as easy as it gets. And it can even be run on a vanilla workstation machine. No server OS required. Got an old Win7 box with decent RAM just sitting around?

Is this a solution you've used successfully in the past?? I spotted it in a web search too, and it seems pretty popular ... But then again so was AOL..

There's a couple of things about it that I found troubling. Like, why is PHPMyAdmin (mentioned frequently in the support forum) apparently part of the setup? If the thing has a browser based configuration, that's an added level of exposure I'm not tickled about. I also didn't see a lot of professionals commenting in the support forum...which makes me a bit uneasy.

As Windows Server 2003 is quickly approaching EOL, I'm faced with the prospect of having to migrate my Email server to something else...and I do not have the (hardware) resources to run a full blown Exchange server here in the home office lab. So...

I'm looking for suggestions on a lightweight free - preferably Windows - Email server, that will need to support no more than a dozen mailboxes. Straight POP/SMTP is fine, although IMAP might be nice if the resource usage can be kept tightly reigned in (it will be running in Hyper-V).

Several of my favourite software are modular, where you can either rearrange panes manually (e.g. PDF-Xchange Editor or ConnectedText) or portrait/landscape mode can be toggled (e.g. Dopus). Maybe the square layout would encourage developers more to make their software to suit both portrait, landscape, and square views.

I have always gone by my own definition of what is to be construed as 'Fair and Reasonable'. If I'm going to be deciding on the purchase of an application that is hundreds or thousands of dollars...then my 'Trial Period' will be just as long as it takes for me to be comfortable with said applications fitness to preform said task.

I've been hustled through demos by ISV reps far too many times to fall for the slick sales tactic of saying "Oh Sure It'll Do That"...only to find out later that the list of caveats - oddly enough - is a mile long.

So yes, there is - quite literally - a pirate flag hung proudly above my desk ... Because before I parts with any of me Spanish gold I'll be damn sure Ye's not foolin' me. Or the plank it will be with yer carcass for sure..

(condensed version)Laser draws image on drum, drum picks up toner where laser has altered the drum's charge, drum transfers image to paper, fuser (or fixing unit as they are sometimes called) melts toner into paper.

Side note: In certain really cold environments a laser printer will emit a visible amount of steam when the paper comes out if the humidity is high enough for the paper to be just a tiny bit moist ... Oh the fun we had on that service call..

Besides the tech, I think it's important to figure out the roles of the police when a superhero is around.

I'd think with billion dollar Homeland tech, a vigilante would have a far harder time now than 20+ years ago.

The Homeland tech is largely irrelevant in this case, as it will - and is -  only used for targeting crime/criminals with high political (e.g. vote generating) value. This way they don't have to run the risk of exposing how thoroughly they spying on everyone by accidentally eliminating - or largely denting - crime in general - As that would be bad for "business"..

So Superheroes will become the stalwart few that actually are foolhardy enough to attempt to protect 'We The People' from all criminals and criminal organizations ... Including the highly organized, funded, and outfitted paramilitary street gangs that have an undue fascination with the color blue..

The hardware was capable, but the OS hadn't caught up yet. That's hardly odd in the industry. Much like FireWire support in Vista. Sure you could order a machine with it, but it ran like crap - if at all - until somebody got around to shitting a proper driver for it.

The whole thread is about the lack of clarity regarding what if anything is required of/by/out of the hardware for proper WFD compatibility.

After the initial flurry of breathless "game changer" announcements, it seems to have stalled out around 2012. The biggest motivation seemed to be killing off Bluetooth - which is odd because that's something that never really went mainstream beyond headsets for smartphones.

All those commercials with people whirling around smacking their phones together while the picture jumped from device to device were using NFC (Near Field Communication). NFC was originally (and still is as I understand it) by design dependent on a secondary Bluetooth connection to do the actual file transfer ("work").

However some companies like HP are using the initial NFC handshake to trigger a WiFi connection for their quick print from your phone widget. Which may have much to do with it - for the most part - not working on any device I've gotten ahold of to try with in any fashion vaguely reminiscent of the brochure's rhetoric..

HP's on printer NFC (to WiFi) implementation does work, it's just way too many steps to really be called truly convenient IMO.
