I *think* that sri is primarily interested in the mouse-over preview function. I half wonder if a plug-in for DOpus (or one of the other File Managers out there) is available/possible for something like this? I guess in a round-about way I've simply rephrased sri's original request... All we're looking for is a plug-in (even for Windows Explorer) that will tap into the view feature Curt talks about above...

Dopus does do that - "mouse-over preview function" - via plugin but couldnt tell you anything beyond that ...

... FMView 2.0 ... will allow you to preview all sorts of Office and other productivity apps' file contents, in addition to viewing most graphics formats, and is a bit cheaper at $16.50 vs. $19.95.

even at that price you'ld probably be better off buying a file manager that does the job ?

Tomos, you can create such a table with saving to .html in OpenOffice. You only have to copy the result into the modify-Message Window.
Otherwise there are tools like http://www.winload.d...9.7.html?empfehlung2 or http://www.hidekik.c...sv2html/csv2html.cgi to convert .csv-files.

Did I tell you that there are now 213 Entries in my list?

Thanks Crush

the OOo HTML file looks great in browser

DiscCatalogHTML.png

but
when I copy & paste it in here
it looses its table formating, & well, looks very scrappy -

Furthermore, actual code writing is not the most productive activity, as surprising as it sounds. That's because if one writes code exclusively for too long, his mind will run in circles and he'll lose his edge.
[from the IT article]

nicely put -
that seems to me to be relevant to all work I've ever done

I get out of my depth after that  :)

there was a post somewhere here (I'm sure it was dc) lately about a GUI for Robocopy -
I got the impression that the download included Robocopy but I could well have been wrong.

Yeah, theres a link there for GUI version at the bottom of that lifehacker page.
It's just over 1MB.

PS I havent forgotten about putting up Crush's list somewhere.
Just very busy at the mo & still dont know how the feck to do it.
It would be nice if I could automatically make a table here from a .CSV file, maybe I should post that as a request/snack ...

OK auto rant over. Hope the analogy was clear -
well no ...

but
I wouldnt bother explaining it any further for my benefit at any rate
:-[
Hey Mike,
I just meant I havent a notion when it comes to cars ...
10962
Reminds me of the horsepucky about Chrysler in the 60's having the monopoly on engineering smarts. Hello! The big three were all building monstrous cars powered by monstrous, iron, 90 degree OHV single cam V-8's! And don't bring up the Hemi... Hemispherical combustion chambers were NOT invented in Detroit circa 1953 - they were around in Europe for decades prior to that and in common application... OK auto rant over. Hope the analogy was clear -
well no ...

but
I wouldnt bother explaining it any further for my benefit at any rate  :P
mind you if I look at it from the Mac/PC side I can imagine what people were saying about Chrysler :) learn all sorts of things here!

funny I've been thinking of requesting this very behaviour (getting sent to the last post) for All Unread
which I tend to use rather than recent posts

Suppose it depends if you check in regularly or not which behaviour you might prefer -
and maybe on length of thread  :-\

General Software Discussion / Re: What fonts do I actually need?
« Last post by tomos on April 30, 2007, 04:09 AM »
Yes, those fonts are professionally designed...

- and, by God: they are professionally priced!   :o

Helvetica
Futura
Frutiger
Palatino Family

good design has it's price ;-)
after all it's a work of art and skill
I could never understand that -
if you want a meagre half dozen fonts (I mean "font families")
you would have to pay over $3,000 - going by those links..

Do you designers keep using the same fonts  or do you just charge a fortune :)

Any takers for the DOpus advantages short-list ?
Ooops,
I didn't mean to stir things up any more than already shaken/stirred

I did want to say,
but for some reason didn't in last post, was -
to be fair, while the DO developers may have an unhelpful approach at times towards liscencing/attitude towards the public at large, I dont think it's fair or helpful to say they "presume registered users to be thieves and pirates".

I was actually seriously interested in hearing the advantages of DOpus from someone who knows both programmes. (of course maybe I should just go back reread the thread  :-\ )
I'll probably get the DO upgrade eventually (or sooner!) but I think it's about equal the cost of XY so...
But as Hirudin says without dualpane...

:) How about Microsoft Windows XP?

If you drag a folder from your desktop to one of the edges of the screen, it creates a dockable Explorer window. You can also detach it and have it floating freely.

Skrommel

thats great  :-*

unfortunately,
I cant Alt+Tab to it and when I change to programme which is using full screen I cant get back to it - except by minimising everything (Win+M).
Ok, solved that: right click title :-[ (who'd a guessed) > change settings > "Automatische im Hintergrund" does the job
But
then it seems to default each time new one opened to Large Icons & hiding in the background - I wonder is there a way of changing default settings??

Hah, it moves your desktop icons which positions i have long NOT backed up. Oh, well!

I purchased a license for exifPro a few days ago
I finally got mine yesterday.

If you live in a Euro land,
buy it in dollars - it works out almost €5 cheaper (you get charged VAT either way)

hmmm ..  :-\
I was afraid it was just getting too busy - could still be the case - as I say, was only slowing with sending mail from Thunderbird,
just over the last week or so,
I'll recheck my settings

If it stays this way I can always follow your examples and just use webmail & get other mail redirected to gmail - which I've been planning to do anyways ... downloading mail doesnt seem to be a problem - nothing I've noticed at any rate - so can still have my backup.

Thanks!

Living Room / gmail slowing down??
« Last post by tomos on April 24, 2007, 05:34 AM »
gmailTbird01.png

anyone else having problems with gmail?
for me, it's been very slow to send mail of late, sometimes will only go on second attempt [EDIT: using email client]

I dont think it's my connection,
or client (Thunderbird)
as I get mail from other sources without problem (in fairness though I dont use other addresses as much)

Just thinking though I send all my mail from gmail and thats where the problem is noticable -
just sent test mail with attachment from another address - no problems sending

So, how is it going for gmail and you??

« Last post by tomos on April 24, 2007, 03:08 AM »
I have a "multi-level" taskbar  :)

When i mouse over icons in systray, the tip always shows above the icon
obviously hiding the icon above, but its manageable.

EDIT: thats the case for me for the top row of icons as well..
If your bar looks like this there must be something wrong!
This is not how its supposed to!
Yeah, it shouldnt hide the icon you're mousing over
