Very handy
yes, agreed.. in fact, a quick search on the forums would give an indication of KatMouse's wide usage.. :)

depends on how the forum search engine is feeling on the day of search!!!  :P
-
when I searched the yesterday it found nothing -
but I first came across KatMouse in the "tray" thread so I know it is there.
(I know Wordzilla has a "forum for download" but I havent been bothered yet)

I think the Office 2006
is the real deal here -

I dont know much about Word Processers but I know it the best one I could find at making Word.docs that can cleanly be read by Word
And it starts quickly...

Thanks Lanux & Crush!

I just got it - (Advanced File Organiser) - myself

see also "15 Min Review" here from:
Clipboard Image.png

This application is quick at loading all the information from media to the application, considering the sheer amount of information offloaded from the media to the catalog. This helps a lot for those who are willing to take the leap from another application into this one, and has hundreds (Thousands?) of CDs and DVDs and doesn’t want to spend a month re-indexing their collection. There is a lot of features to help you with your organizing as well. You can change the name of the media (As well as folders and sub-folders) to reflect what may be labeled directly on the media as opposed to the volume label (Which may be a less-than-helpful date code or similar.) You can also add a description to each media unit, as well as folders and files. The same goes for categorizing; You can organize your entire collection by category as well to aid you further in searching later.

Something I haven’t seen often in my previous searches for similar application is the ability for the application to crawl through ZIP and RAR files as if they were just another folder; Very handy indeed. This means that you don’t have to worry about ZIPping up previous versions of a project and the files not being indexed as well.

The author has included a feature to make indexing media other than CDs and DVDs useful. Rather than removing and adding an entire drive (USB, hard drive, network attached storage, rewritable CDs & DVDs, etc.) to have it re-indexed, you simply select the drive under ‘My Catalog’ and click ‘Update Disk’ button. It retains your descriptions and categories for all folders and files when you use ‘Update Disk’, which is definitely nice.

The print options are stellar as well. The number of options are pretty impressive; From full catalog printouts, to simple disc listing, and a lot in-between. This is nice to have because it is not always an option to be able to sit on the computer to go through your disc index, or you have a rough idea already what you are looking for and you just need a quick lookup.

One aspect I did find nice is the ‘Export’ functionality. You can export to HTML, Excel, XML or CSV. I’d likely use HTML and place it up on our Intranet just so others can thumb through the index as well without having to come and antagonize me to find an old file they are looking for.

Thanks Lanux  :)

Katmouse seems to be generally very good but didnt work with Qimage, a programme I'm trying out for printing photos.
In fact it stopped it from scrolling at all
So now I have it on KatMouse's ignore list.

Very handy

General Software Discussion / KatMouse Query
« Last post by tomos on May 15, 2007, 04:26 AM »
I know there's a few people here who use KatMouse

Purpose

The prime purpose of the KatMouse utility is to enhance the functionality of mice with a scroll wheel, offering 'universal' scrolling: moving the mouse wheel will scroll the window directly beneath the mouse cursor (not the one with the keyboard focus, which is default on Windows OSes). This is a major increase in the usefullness of the mouse wheel.
I'm trying it out & like it a lot

BUT
I got rid of the try icon
(I believe that was an option in properties if i remember correctly)

& now
I cant seem to find how to get it back, or, more importantly how to get to properties.

Any ideas there?

I have wrote the author but am an impatient geezer so thought I'd ask here  :D
thanks,
tom

tomos, i know you are tired but i have a little suggestion to make.. :) why not incorporate the app name and its website as one column since hyper-linking them would reduce the table's width..

good idea Lanux

I tidied up the URLs so on my screen I can now see these columns
Cataloger   Homepage   Free-/Shareware

Off-screen to the right are-

Price   Last Version/Change    Remark

I was combining the Remark with the Homepage colums -

I could maybe also combine Price column with Free-/Shareware

then i think all the important stuff will be visible without having to scroll to right.

Theres a difficulty with multi-line cells
and converting them to a Table but hopefully that will be sorted soon..
[I had started trying to edit the Table version but that was a nightmare so went back to spreadsheet ...)

This is really a problem. SED goes through the CSV line by line and I see no way to change this. One possible solution is, that you dont put multiple lines in one cell, but instead use some kind of seperator - # for example - which could be translated to a simple
[br]
.
I tried to save the Spreadsheet as HTML, but then you lose the Linebreak. Hmmm... I try to find a solution.
didnt really understand till -
only saw the "br" when I quoted you  ;)

sounds like a good idea!

OOps

'fraid I'm running into problems again, but this time they definitely are at source - i.e. Open Office

I have a spreadsheet where there's more than one line in each cell -
in other words Ctrl+Return (OOo) has been used to create new line in the cell.

When this is saved as a csv file there is a new line for each internal "Return" in cells

e.g. this .csv file
4cat140.zip.exe;http://files.chatnfi...re%203/026/files.htm
DOS Cataloger;Freeware;;

When opened in OOo (or converted as per batch file above) this would ideally be (& was originally) like
4cat140.zip.exehttp://files.chatnfi...re%203/026/files.htm
DOS Cataloger
Freeware

but unfortunately ends up as [when opened in OOo or when converted][EDIT]
4cat140.zip.exehttp://files.chatnfi...re%203/026/files.htm
DOS CatalogerFreeware

The problem is with Open Office -

I wonder could it work in Excel -
I mean i wonder does Excel save a more successfull .csv file & if so what the difference is
would some kind person know already :) or maybe try to create a similar spreadsheet -
(i.e. with more than one line within a cell) in Excel, save it as .csv file & then see if it opens okay??

Thats a good bit better.
(I tidied up the urls)

Thinking of moving the comments,
which are maybe of most importance,
to under the web address which will make the post a lot longer but more accessible but that,
& other corrections will have to wait ...

See post Number 2
in this thread for a list of 213 (or is it 214  :) ) created by Crush
and facilitated by Crono's convert from spreadsheet to Forum Table batch file

This is a test run
I actually think it should go in Post #1
Cause Post#1 is now a shown up as a fairly arbitrary collection/short list

I believe there is still the option to post the long list in it's own page instead of here
or simply to post it in it's own thread

Please post your opinions !!
I notice theres a few minor corrections to be made to list - will make those *shortly*  :)

See Below!!!

Hi Crono,

I did step 2) after which unfortunately it still doesnt work
(If I open run box and type sed I now get a flash of a (DOS?) window but nothing more which seems to indicate it has found the path - previously i got a window saying something in german along the lines of it couldnt be found)

but still no joy ...

You say change the path in the batch file
is there a path already there  :-[ ??
I cant see anything obvious ...

sorry for bugging you ..
-
HEY - I figured it out - well YOU figured it out really  :-[  :D

the file name had spaces in it & didn't work when I dragged it onto the batchfile shortcut

So I just changed the name  :D

thanks crono, that's brilliant
I will post a link to the relevant post when I do post it - want to check it out a bit first ..

PS
I notice my csv file has varying amounts of separators -
sometimes three at the end of of a line, sometimes just one
Hmmm... Sorry - must be a problem with OOo. Maybe there are some Blanks in the cells?
Yes,
it was shooting [for the] blanks!

I should qualify the last post by saying that I'm not very knowledgeable about what goes on "under the hood" in a soft or hardware sense

so
its well possible I'm just doing (or maybe not doing) something silly (or sensible as the case may be  :) )

I'll go before i tie myself up in verbal knots here ...

Keep it simple - this sounds like a job for sed (download it from the gnuwin32 Project). You can run a Batch file with some sed commands to replace text and convert your CSV

The Batch file

.....

bye

Okay,

I tried this -
without success I'm afraid but I suspect it may be to do with my csv file.
The final table.txt just has
[table]
[/table]

I notice your demo input has ";" as separator and no inverted commas "" to delimit text.
So I made a csv file like that (Open Office)
but
I notice my csv file has varying amounts of separators -
sometimes three at the end of of a line, sometimes just one

any ideas there ?
thanks!!
tom
-

PS -
or maybe I should have rebooted after installing sed ?
or maybe I have to have batch file somewhere special ?

If you wanted to do it straight from Excel then the following code should work without too many issues. To use it you just have to copy and paste it into your Excel Code Editor in a new Module. The Procedure formats a string and puts it onto the Clipboard:

.........

When I worked at in University we ran a Java based Wiki, and I did many other similar macros to convert from other Office documents to its markup.
-Perry Mowbray (May 14, 2007, 01:44 AM)

thanks Perry!

I'm afraid I don't have Excel myself,
but sure that will be of use to others

tom

EDIT or could it work in Open Office too ??

I don't know how off hand, but I'm pretty sure AHK will read and write lines from a file. You could easily read a line, add the necessary characters to the beginning and end, do any find and replacing you need, and write the line back and go to the next.

This sounds like something I'd be capable of (with my very limited programming skillz) so I'm sure a lot of y'all would be too. I'm heading off for the weekend, but if someone hasn't made anything by the time I get back I'll take a stab at it.

That sounds great Hirudin

I'm back in 24 hrs myself,
will have a closer look at csv file then
I think a comma (or something..) will have to be stripped from the end of each sentence as well
but if everything else could be done on auto,
that could easily be done manually.

can try save as html in Excel.

You have any idea what that code looks like? It's a mess. Possibly worse than OOo. :o

Yeah, OOo html is a pretty scary business :)

thanks, app

think I'll have to reconsider ...

It's the List of Disc Cataloguers that Crush prepared that I was hoping to fit in a post on thread of same name.
The list now has 213 entries, with, I think, four columns ...

You can see why I'm looking for some kind of automated solution ...

Do you think the idea of replacing separators in a .csv file is a non runner
(see post one, esp the second code box, for anyone who hasn't a clue what I'm on about :) )
