do you mean like you'd like to draw or type "on" the PDF? (edit it?)
superimpose whatever you want on top of it?

I am looking for a program that would duplicate this functionality.
on screen/modifying the file?

just a bit unclear what exactly you're looking for  :)

wonder what a "GB-Month" is  :-\  that's per GB per month I guess ..?

if you go here they'll estimate your bill but you have to know what a GB-Month is  :P )

what's the situation these day with Win98 -
I mean it not being updated anymore - are there alternative sites that help keep it secure?

Check out Adobe Reader Lite at http://www.msfn.org/....php?showtopic=88167. If that's not what you're after, search the MSFN forum, there are a few pdf reader stripped down version circling around.

thanks Phil

I think you might be refering to pdfspeedup.
http://www.tnk-bootb...rted&id=7F7290B5 -Adobe Reader SpeedUp

thanks guys, but no, that wasnt what i was thinking of -
& this is one of those very rare cases where I'm sure there was a cleaned up version (for want of a better way of putting it) about a year ago maybe - but it probably just out of date now anyway.
Will probably go for the Adobe install at some stage, thanks!

If it's free why doesn't it (the website) or you say anything about the content?
-
I mean what's in it as opposed to what's not in it...

So I probably will install Acrobat Reader as well -
there used be a sort of a cleaned up version available from somewhere -
somewhere beginning with "N" ? :-\ ... (I spy with my little eye... of course it could have begun with something else)

Ring any bells anyone?!

I thought it might have been Neowin or nlite but couldnt find anything there

tomos - there was a mini gathering?
tell me and i'll give you your badges.

Well,
I had been hoping to get up there for a while & in the end the one week I was able to get up I didn't have a car so had to borrow one which was touch & go for a while so to cut the story short I think we only confirmed thurs evening the visit for friday.
Journey up from Kaiserslautern took 5hrs instead of the 3 in google's perfect world - 2 traffic jams & 1 short detour in search of petrol - I'm marked on the map, Mike is up there somewhere in the top left.

Tom (tomos) and I had a lovely vist at Grotte Scladina ...

Yeah, it was especially nice hanging out there where Mike works, sitting outside at the foot of a small steep hill in top of which is the cave they're excavating ..

Hey!
got to visit Mike - nice guy - well worth a visit :D (but sure we knew that already, didn't we!)
we hung out yesterday (friday) evening and again this morning (first time I ever slept in a museum!) & did a bit of sightseeing with some of his co-workers today.
Yeah,
nice time.
me gotta sleep now though, too much driving -just back a couple of hours- & a strong Belgian beer at the journeys end..
take their toll

Automation is my goal for everything, but the speed limitations of UNMAINTAINED COMPUTERS :P, dialup, snails, etc keep me from being able to automate things.
-wreckedcarzz (July 20, 2007, 02:45 AM)
you could produce a dialup version & a broadband one  :-\

Maybe a "recommended software" area, for programs like Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice, Pidgin, etc?
dont understand?
10766
sounds great  & getting better!
how about throwing in dcupdater in there for luck  :P
10767
quick post
re viewers again:

tried to dl Adobe Reader today & it did it's damndest to include "Photoshop Album"
Then it would [NOT!] allow me to save it - wanted to install straight away (in FF anyway)

So I tried out the PDFXChange Viewer - it does look great, great image quality.
I miss though zoom keyboard/mouse options (Ctrl+scroll, crtl+/-Alt+Spacebar + mouse drag)
Once you get used to them it's a real pain to use toolbars/menus
Unfortunately  PDFXChange doesnt have hardly any shortcuts... but I'll definitely be keeping it

So I probably will install Acrobat Reader as well -
there used be a sort of a cleaned up version available from somewhere -
somewhere beginning with "N" ? :-\ ... (I spy with my little eye... of course it could have begun with something else)

Word Processor Roundup / Re: Writing Software
« Last post by tomos on July 19, 2007, 03:26 PM »
Tomos, thanks for the alert about TextArranger.  I just looked it over and tried to figure out just how I would use it.  I haven't come up with any ideas that are not covered by other software just as well.  Maybe I'm missing something.  How would you put it to use, as a writer?

First:
well I just came across it in my download folder & went to the web page for a look (hadn't even gotten round to installing it.. so thanks for checking it out!)
Second:
I'm not very familiar with software for writing (learning from your blog though!)
Third: :-[ I aspire to write ... as opposed to being "a writer"  :D

PS you can just paste a URL - it will automatically show up as a link. I'm sure there's a post somewhere telling you how to get fancier with links (if you want!)... will look see

Situations like this can only be mandated by public policy (the merits of this mandate not withstanding), and is what is most commonly seen in most free-markets today.  Often these regulations can be seen as protective and/or anti-free-market; but in a global market, there is no
way a consumer or even a significant sub-group can hold sway.  It is only when the TOTAL market (or significant portion thereof) deems this to be against THIER values, does the "consumer" hold any sway over the corporation.

Look at food -
Nestle who has always been one of the big bad corporations is now producing a lot of organic food - it's quite possible they're paying paltry wages etc., but the fact is when people want something, the big corporations (& everyone else) go and produce it or grow it.

I am very confused by the example you showed, as that has no bearing (that I can see) on the moral values the market places on the corporation.
well I was following in the footsteps :P of the Nike example -
shoes, food, it's all the one in terms of how it works
Whether you like organic food or not -
it seems like a big improvement on what Nestle have gotten up to in the past -
which isn't relevant here & I wouldn't know enough about it anyways to talk about it properly - rather the point being they are responding to peoples wishes.

In ways I'm saying the only "morality" brought to the table is by what people accept or dont accept in terms of behaviour etc.
You can try & regulate for that, but I still think it will boil down to what the people accept... and the less people accept something the less it will happen.

That's just my opinion* - I havent anything to quote to back it up and I'm no expert like some of the people writing here - but I believe it's a fairly fundamental "thing" (cant think of a more appropriate word :))

* probably influenced by having lived in Ireland in the 80's & 90's - a time of major corruption, in particular amongst developers & politicians - it wasn't the regulations (those in place were casually ignored) or lack of them that affected their behaviour...

You may want to see if disabling WinXP's built-in CD writing might help out:

Wow, that sorted it :tellme: THANKs mwb :D

so it's probably a Windows problem  ...

Well, after a updating multisession DVD, the most recent additions didnt show in the Plextor drive but did show in my other DVD drive

I'd check Plextor for a firmware update on the drive.

well,
I updated the driver & it's gone even stranger...

If I burn a disc in the Plextor drive - it burn okay*, but reads in the same [Plextor] drive as -
"Momentan auf der CD vorhandene Dateien"
which is Windows speak for these files are ready for burning or something to that effect

* - It reads fine in the other DVD drive..

If it's multisession & I update it, again it shows fine on other drive,
but Plextor one is still showing the same file list as previously (cant remember the english - available to burn?)
Also deleted files arent deleted but I cant remember what the default is there with Nero Express.

Been using just Nero Express - will try something else & see how it responds...

I haven't had a chance to read all this thread but I definitely will!
I hope I'm not repeating anything already said but felt I had to respond there -
I gotta disagree with you there Steeladept  :)

Look at food -
Nestle who has always been one of the big bad corporations is now producing a lot of organic food - it's quite possible they're paying paltry wages etc., but the fact is when people want something, the big corporations (& everyone else) go and produce it or grow it.

Likewise, using your example, the less people who want something, the less companies produce that article.
Or, the less people accept the conditions under which something is produced, the more the companies will be willing to change work conditions etc.

Basically, corporations, politicians, etc. (individuals too!) do what they reckon they will get away with - I think they are a good reflection of what we accept as a society. In times when politicians are very corrupt, it's usually the case that people are fairly "corrupt" themselves - even though they might complain bitterly about the very same politicians...
10775
Good,
you seem to have it all covered  :)

...
I found a program called EasyCleaner, and it looked like a really good program but I can't test/use it because it isn't compatible with Windows Vista :(. And it apparantly hasn't been updated in a while...
-wreckedcarzz (June 30, 2007, 01:11 PM)
Just for the record (though  :-\ )
there is a beta version of easycleaner http://personal.inet...s/toniarts/betas.htm and it's portable - I've no idea does it run on vista (you'd think it would but...)
I'm happy to see it's still in development anyway

I haven't personally experienced problems with it - with Windows Vista I have had some odd bugs though, but I haven't really linked them to a source yet. I just (right now) looked through CCleaner's list of things to clean/delete and I didn't see anything about startup options (unless it fixed them in the registry cleaning part).
-wreckedcarzz (June 30, 2007, 01:11 PM)

Yes that (minor) problem I had was it cleaning the registry of disabled startup progs (I had planned just to disable them temporarily)

EDIT added link for Beta
