there's a big discount due to the release of the new DLC, the Sacrifice. gotta love Valve for that, free contents and a discount. :)

i can't help noticing this in the IE9 Beta Product Guide but is it a coincidence that the XPS file size is almost 3 times smaller than PDF?

Hmm, cannot get Filezilla to connect to DonationCoder.  Cannot anyone specify settings I should use?

Currently, I'm using my DC username, my DC password, "Normal" connection with FTPES set, and port 21, trying to connect to ftp.donationcoder.com

it's not necessary to specify a port with FTPES, just leave it blank. also under server type, choose, "FTPES - FTP over explicit TLS/SSL". i'll try to post a screenshot later.

I use FTP Commander 8.02 by InternetSoft Corp, and like it.  Works great for the church website I webmaster.  However, I've not been able to use it to connect to my DonationCoder space.  But I suspect that's a problem with the user's knowledge.  Probably some setting I've not gotten right, rather than the software itself.

you need a client with FTPES support to access DonationCoder's ftp site. afaik, only Filezilla and Totalcmd has the support built-in. i'm not sure about other clients.

The main reason I liked it was it allows me to edit my HTML on the server without having to dn/ld -> edit -> up/ld.  Is this a common feature among FTP clients?

not sure about other but FileZilla can do this and so does PSPad (a text editor with built-in ftp features). i think all these 'direct edits' involve some downloading to a temp folder on the hard-disk and re-uploaded after an edit without the users' intervention..

FlashFolder has this feature but it only supports windows explorer and total commander plus it's not being actively developed. however i use it daily and haven't run into any problems.

(I'm thinking about the fate of Norton products when Symantec took them over, though from what I've read/seen they've been steadily improving for the last few years).

i'm not a big fan of Symantec but lately i've been using machines with Enterprise Edition and find them a bit more appeasing to the system's resource.

@jaden: a small request, can Snap MD5 be made to auto-copy the MD5 of a given file and exit after that?

something like: SnapMD5.exe <filename> /copymd5 /exit

PS. thanks again for SnapMD5, it works very well for me.

Thanks again lanux128.  I really like the new context menu position.  That's perfect.

Unfortunately, no go on folders still.  And some files do move, while others don't.

When selecting a small group of files and internet shortcuts, the shortcuts move to parent, while the files stay.

Selecting a single file, though, works fine.

Must be harder to accomplish than one would think, huh.  That's apparently why no one else in cyberland has yet done it.

hmm.. that's strange what is your OS again?

btw i'm working on the folders, would be ready soon.

Why hasn't someone come up with the idea of choosing the part of the page you *DO* want to print and ignoring the rest.

Aardvark can do this, you can select an element and choose 'Isolate' which will then delete everything surrounding the selected element, leaving you with just what you want to print.

Your little compilation works fine on files of all sorts, and on a number of files at once.

For some reason it does not work with folders.

Too, it would be one less step to keep it in the main context menu itself.

you're welcome, nkormanik.. :)

MoveToParent doesn't detect folders in its current state, i could that if you want. i'll also move the menu item to the main context menu as well.

btw, i've created a new thread here for this tool so that we won't go OT in this thread.

i guess Skwire will have his version soon enough but here's my take on this, MoveToParent. this tool will create a menu item in the SendTo folder, which will move selected file(s) to its parent folder. do give this a try and let me know if it works. a word of caution, please do some tests with sample files first before committing important files.

incidentally i borrowed the filename collision routine from Skwire.. :)

Move to Parent, a coding snack based on a request by nkormanik.

the context-menu item has been added but still only files are processed. use the older version to uninstall existing context-menu or shortcut.

Small program request:

Context menu item in Windows Explorer.

shortened name: "Move To Parent"

long name:  "Move Selected Items To Parent Directory"

In the old DOS days, it was easy to type in "move xyz.txt ..", or "move *.jpg .."

In Windows there is nothing similar.  And searching through Google turned up no simple program to accomplish this.

Can any of the gurus here do it?

Thanks,
Nicholas Kormanik

this sounds like a coding snack.. what OS are you on?

Living Room / GOG.com confuses everyone including themselves!

recently Gog.com, a download-only games retailer announced that they're closing shop due to publishers' insistence on implementing DRM on the games that were sold to which they could come to terms with. bear in mind that GOG stands for 'Good Old Games' so they sell only classics and some other old games that they can get hold of.

however in an ironic turn-around, they made a new announcement that they're back again and the earlier notice was due to the end of a  two-year beta stage and now they're "launching a brand new GOG.com with new, huge releases".

hmm.. curious way to end a beta. :tellme:

It's almost kinda' creepy. I'm running Chrome dev. channel.  The updates are so silent, the only way I can tell what version I have is to look in the about box.  Although now and then an extension stops working.  Still, it's way less intrusive than FF updates.

it does sound creepy since you put it that way. maybe an optional tray tip wouldn't hurt, i guess.. :)

An Answering service ? Orange CRT monitors ? Elevator operators ?
Remember any of these ?

btw, mimeograph is known as cyclostyle here. i remember my dad working on it at his shop.
