Hi Brett,
thanks (1) taken care of.
I mean the file edit ... toolbar. I don't think you can hide that one... and the bottom one neither.
(3) I like to do say 'u' for underlining, etc. Not all functions have shortcuts, right?

dealbreakers for PDF-exchage:
no keyboard shorcuts
no way to undo a highlight
No way to remove toolbars

These are minor things, I bet it takes less that 24h dev. time to fix them... are they responsive to user requests in their forums?

Testing visagesoft expert PDF...
Before anyone install this on their computer, you should know that someone who actually makes a living out of designing software thought it was cool to waste about an inch of top-quality screen real state just displaying the name of the product.

Do we have a price for this person? expert PDF font rendering is magnificent; the feature set is actually very good for the price. But you have to be a special kind of stupid to waste this much screen when basically anyone wants as much of the reading area displayed as possible.

visagesoft CEO, if you are reading this... push that button that triggers the trapdoor under the current designer's feet!

So Darwin, is nuance v.4 rock solid? Any random crashes? They don't seem to have a trial version...

Any info on a cheaper alternative that can view and edit pdfs? I only need to highlight and and annotations. I don't want to pay hundreds for adobe 8 pro for my new laptop... :(

Word's autocomplete feature? never heard of it? Is it any good?
How is directAccess + Word's autocomplete feature doing? Which autocompleter do you use, Darwin? Have you tried intellicomplete?
1082
Has anybody familiar with these scripts AND intellicomplete tried them both?
This could be the starting point, if they work well.

Is anybody up for the task of mimicing intellicomplete?

Now that I think of it, most of what I write now goes to onenote, and that does away with the need of folders/files!

Ok, The idea is simple, the comercial program is long-dead, and the current implementation sucks -it doesn't work with opera 9.23, for example; hit and miss with most programs. it just dissapears sometimes and has to be restarted-.

To anyone well-versed in ahk/other langs... is this technically difficult? I don't think so.
I'd be very useful to many people to reimplement the idea of an autocompleter that work system-wide. There is an open source one, let-me-type, but it's unmaintained (see here).

Anyone up for the task?

More evidence.
It's only TC and an ahk program called activ'aid that cannot follow shortcuts. Weird.

I did change labels, but I reinstalled the OS since then. I don't think that's a problem.

General Software Discussion / my system has stopped following shortcuts (!)
« Last post by urlwolf on August 24, 2007, 09:10 AM »
I have no words to describe how frustrating it's been for me to miserably waste most of my last week configuring my laptop. And this is a task that cannot be delegated

One of the last things I did was to install firstDefense-ISR (bought two licenses! thanks DC discount!).

I copied most of my shortcuts to portable applications (I have them all in a 'portable' directory). Now my system has stopped following these shortcuts (!).

I have no idea how to go from here...
Are shortcuts computer-specific? Note that I have the exact same partition label (e:) and paths... No idea why it doesn't work...

Thanks

bummer about mp3 only. I have lots of ogg/flac.

No new posts in the musicIP blogs either?
1088
Well, musicIP does do recommendation, right?
That's the whole point of it, is it not?

I just cannot find a changelog anywhere. I have been submitting feature requests that would make MIP a killer app, I'm just wondering if any of them has been implemented.

it's not working again with 9.23 :(
the screenshot has horizontal black bars, and it takes a long while to get it.

If this is secure/legal, it's interesting in may ways. One of them: it's a great backup. After traveling for 1.5 month without my music, I missed it. This would be a solution.

The recomendation part, I must try. Looks like my previous favorite, MusicIP, is half dead, no new features added in over 2 months. andd now, I added a few CDs, just to discover that most of them are unanalyzable. When did things go this wrong?

How about this shavlik technologies business?

I have 'updated' my clean XP install after the mouse drivers went wrong. Now, it is suppossedly installing updates... only that it isn't.
The windows update is borked. Again. I have spent over a week trying to get this comptuter into shape.

I hate how M$ is making me waste time like noone's business.

Is Shavlik recommended? Anyone using it?

What can I do if the updates don't get installed (with a legit dell XP CD!)...

NOTE: I think this section should use evidence (links, screenshots, etc) of the behavior we are dennouncing;

THE PROBLEM: people cannot speak freely in a public forum. If you critisize the product, you are banned. If you mention a competing product, same thing. If you suggest an alternative database (freedb) same thing). etc. The moderators there have no sense of human rights, and for that reason, I will not support their product.

Example (from MediaMonkey forum):
http://www.mediamonk...19990&highlight=
BTW : I've just been banished form River's forum because I was talking about MediaMonkey and its 'auto-tag from Amazon' feature. This is really sad, now I won't certainly not give any money to them.
Quote:
you are banned from using this forum!
Mediamonkey posts belong on their forum.

THere are more examples scattered around the net (e.g., at last.fm forums). Even though the product is good, they have alienated many customers like me (won't upgrade), and I hope DC forumites agree that it is in their best interest not to support a software company that tries to 'bias' what their users/potential customers see in their public forums.

I use an e: partition for data.
THen I follow the unix approach, and have everything under my user name folder. this is monitored by superflexible and updated/refreshed often. I even have an USBstick folder where programs with no installation live. these are supposed to be portable, hence the name, although that folder is now bigger than any USBstick.

Inside my username folder, the biggest folder is the one that has pdf and endonte files.

For each new project (normally, experiments/papers), I create the following folders:
tools - progamming (R, actionscript, ruby, .... for running experiments and analyzing data)
data - obvious
stimuli - obvious. May have randomizations created with R programs in tools

The paper itself goes to username/articles.

It is a bit confusing, so if you have suggestions, please post.
I'm also considering moving "data" out of the username directory, as they are static and don't benefit from incremental backups. And superflexible takes a long time to index the entire username directory as it is right now...

Thanks

C: is the OS. win XP.

Success!
Thanks Carol, failed to notice that the CD was E:! After fixing that, of course, I could label my data partition as E:
(ashamed : ( )

@biox
More advantages of having different partitions:
3. defragging is faster

4. If you share files over a network, you can restrict access by only allowing sharing on one partition.
@carol
Thanks a lot for the pointer. It seems I'm wrong: I have converted the extended partition to a primary one; E: still doesn't show up in the dropdown list!
I wonder where E: is. It's certainly not used by any partition or CD/DVD (at least it doesn't show!).
Maybe there's a hidden partition?
1098
partitions.png
Well, it looks like it's inside the extended partition. I have attached a picture using paragon partition manager. I haven't been able to find a way to change this ext partition into a primary. But maybe there's one?
1099
Ok, I think I know where the problem is.
the data partition is embedded into an extended partition. No idea why the OS did that.
Is there any way of removing a primary partition from within an extended partition?
Or should I just remove the entire extended partition, and create anew a primary partition?

Thanks

Also, I have read somewhere that having a partition 100% full is bad.
That's the case for my music partition. Any idea why this is bad? Should I sacrifice some music for better overall performance?

Thanks
