General Software Discussion / Re: How many of you use encryption?
« Last post by kartal on June 12, 2008, 06:13 PM »
that is what it says on the site. I will download and try now. Also they seem to be working only for files. I am hoping to find something like axcrypt (which can encode and decode files and folders).

"Omziff is a straightforward encryption utility that uses various cryptographic algorithms to encrypt and decrypt textual files. These algorithms include: Blowfish, Cast128, Gost, IDEA, Misty1, AES/Rijndael, and Twofish."

I am yet looking for a free portable application(no install) that can encrypt files or folder. I use axcrypt and truecrypt but they do not serve my need. truecrypt is good for containers and axcrypt portable cannot encrypt folders, only files. Any suggestions?

Living Room / Re: does win XP 64-bit suck?
« Last post by kartal on June 12, 2008, 09:50 AM »
I use 64bit xp, and it rocks in my opinion. Moving to 64bit was smartest desicion I have made some months ago. ( I have 8gb with quad core).

As others pointed out using 32 bit explorer replacement will resolve most of your pains. I use  FreeCommander.

I was hoping to look at my todo txt files with htmlviewurl inside Farr without opening any other application.

I will investigate the options you have mentioned here. Maybe they are more suitable for me.

Mouser would you mind explaning this stuff little more? I am little puzzled about what to achieve with these new stuff? Also what are the purposes of showfile and showhtml? SOrry help file is very limited and I did some preliminary tests and could not get anything spectacular :)

In my first post I was referring using htmlviewurl to show image and text files inside farr html viewer.

I am testing it  and it  works very nice so far. They seem to get it right as far as referencing the original Keynote goes.

I personally see no problem with stopping free developement of any software and starting commercial version of the application. People need to pay their bills and survive if the amount of effort they need to put into improve the software does not pay off at some point they will either stop or ask for compensation. That is why we have open source free software movement where you can download, use, donate and support. I generally try to stick to open source software for daily side job software (like compression, ftp etc)  and also I try to donate some amount every year. If you are not happy with companies that offered free software at some point, you can always find open source applications. And please make sure that you support them at least by testing out and supplying with bug reports, if you cannot afford to send some donation. Also please remember that even 1$ could be a good thank you to developer that will  show your support.

Find And Run Robot / Feature request: Sorting under browsing mode
« Last post by kartal on June 11, 2008, 04:32 PM »
It would be so great if we can sort when in straight browsing mode :)
1090
2.06.02  seems to resolved the problem for me.
1091
Thanks! I was spaced out here :)
1092
which same url? I would like to download it too.

can you download the latest test version (same url) and see if the problem persists?
1093
I agree

when exactly does the error trigger? does the web browser empty window show first?

vitalyb noticed this bug here but it's better that it has a thread of its own. anyway, to answer mouser's query. the error appears the second time igo is used. e.g. in the screenshot below, www,ratesfx.com is second url, upon pressing 'enter', the error pops-up. only re-starting Farr makes it go away. :(

as for other clues, i don't know but maybe some browser set-up would help i guess. such as my default browser is Firefox v2, no IE7 (only IE6) running on WinXP SP3.

I thought that with this new release we were not supposed to use "." "&&" etc to finalize any command and enter would just fire the command ?

I think one other thing that could be useful for viewing web pages is ability to define size of the Farr window when a web page is called via alias or similar predefined patter. So that one can define 800*600,1024*768, 400*200 etc. I personally hate autosizing :)
