To state the obvious, unicode text would be necessary.

No, the timing could be easily handled by the GUI wrapper. When the button is pushed a timehack is taken. Any point after that you can compute how long it has been running.

As for how to use PsTools, I suggest you start with the article linked to toward the bottom of the page I linked to, "PsTools Primer".

This would be a fairly simple project for AutoHotkey/AutoIT folks that hang out here. I'm too busy to take it on as a project.

Somebody should be able to whip up a GUI to drive PsTools. PsExec will provide the functionality you are looking for.

I think the US $1 coin and the Canadian quarter dollar are about the same size... and about the same value the way the Greenback is trading these days on the currency market.

I use Firefox and the ImageShack Firefox extension. It does what you are asking for. There are plenty of tools available.
1060
every time I had an idea for an FF extension I was halted by not knowing where and how to hook up the extension to FF internals.

This is a WAG, but I would imagine you just need to look at the DOM and find the appropriate events to attach to. I'm not sure if in the JavaScript/DOM world they call them 'callbacks' or not, but that would be my guess.
1061
I have just spent a few minutes researching what it takes to build a Firefox Extension. In summary, JavaScript and XML knowledge. I suggest you start at the Mozilla Developer Center article Building an Extension.

Oh, almost forgot to mention, if you don't already have it, grab Firebug.

Thanks app that is interesting. It would be really great to have this turn out to be correct. I've always wondered what it would be like in the world when something like this was discovered and turned into practical applications that were impossible to even conceive of before.

Developer's Corner / Change Version Info Via Command Line Application
« Last post by tinjaw on November 18, 2007, 08:16 AM »
I want to be able to change the version info in an EXE via a batch file. I will be using this with games I build using Torque Game Builder, but this could also be used for any application that has an unchanging master EXE but datafiles that change. For example levels in a FPS. Each time I change the datafiles and rebundle that game, I want to change the version number of the EXE so when somebody views the version info of the EXE , it corresponds to the version number of the game.

I have plenty of GUI based tools to do this, but I want to be able to do this in a script so I can automate the process.

This is for Windows applications.

Developer's Corner / 300 Ideas for Game Play Mechanics
« Last post by tinjaw on November 18, 2007, 01:45 AM »
Sean Howard, over at www.squidi.net, is making good progress on his goal to come up with 300 unique ideas for game play mechanics. At this point Sean had developed 58. Now, these aren't just one or two sentences like, "Make the blood blue, instead of red.", but are equivalent to full length articles. There are some real nuggets of gold in there. And Sean is nice enough to give them away for nothing more than a mention in your game. If you want to build a game, but can't think of an idea, or you need a little something to spice up an existing game you are working on, check out Three Hundred Mechanics.

You need 667 - satan's retarded brother.

The following is adult humor. Do not read if you are under the age of 16.

As an outside observer in this thread, one who has never looked into all of this, my guess is that the dpi of the screen (like 96 DPI on today's average LCD) would need to be calibrated to the DPI of the graphics tablet. They don't need to be in a 1:1 relationship, but once that is calibrated, you should get your "absolute" mode, nudone. If you held a gun to my head and asked me to speculate further, the software you had, nudone, might have been calibrated to a 72DPI screen, or some similar disparity may have existed.

What's the Best? / Re: Package Management for Windows
« Last post by tinjaw on November 16, 2007, 03:39 PM »
I think this is as good as any to explain one reason why apt-get, yum, etc. work. It is not apt-get, yum or any other program if its nature. It isn't even because they are *nix-based. The only reason it works is, well... It's the data, stupid! There is absolutely no way you are going to get the necessary participation of the enormous amount of Windows developers to 1) conform to one standard, let alone a dozen 2) provide the necessary data in a timely manner to keep the backends current, or 3) in this day and age of spyware, malware, etc. get people to trust such a mechanism.

Just look at how long PAD files and PAD databases have been around. There is even an officially sanction means published by the ASP on how to extend PAD files. It is trivial to make an extension to the PAD file to provide the necessary message format. It is easy to say everybody should package their installers as MSIs as that is an official Microsoft standard that is supported by open source tools available from Microsoft. But there are a baker's dozen of formats used.

Until there is an economic reason for this to happen, it won't.

wolf.b is doing a good job as an instructor. I see one question has been unanswered. One about renaming. I will throw out a hint that batch files can take optional parameters. And a second hint - there is a reason why it is %%f and not %f. Keep that in mind when using your optional parameters in your batch file.

wolf.b, back to you wise teacher.

Regarding the app itself, I dislike the "toilet paper" model.
Although I also dislike the TP model, some of my coworkers believe that most of what I write is complete crap and is best suited for toilet paper.
That may be so, but it's hard to stop when you're on a roll!

I know from personal experience. I was worried my mail-order-bride payment wouldn't make it. :P

LOL. I'm Polish. I almost got a mail order bride. You see, one of the light bulbs in our living room when out, and with our small family we didn't have enough to change it. So I thought about a Russian bride, but I couldn't figure out how to get all that rubble in that small Air Mail pouch.
