yeah win2k and winxp you can select a messagebox and hit ctrl+C, and it actually copies the text.. im sure there are a lot of people who would have liked to know about that cool trick.

As for an effective freeware text grabber, I've never come across one.  Of the ones I've used, Kleptomania was the best but I basically gave up looking a year or two ago, so it's entirely possible (hopefully!) that my knowledge is outdated ;)

I'm almost positive there's at least one other . . . seems like there were a few at the freeware/shareware listing I'd found Oscar's at, but I didn't actually try them and have since forgotten where/how I found it.  Seems like Oscar's isn't the only text editor renamer, though.

My all-time personal favorite bulk renamer is Oscar's File Renamer.  The beauty of Oscar's is that instead of the traditional set up search/replace criteria limited by the power of the program itself, Oscar lists the files in a plain text with each file/folder on its own line.  You edit it like a normal text file, when you save your changes the new file names are applied to the old (The old file names/file info are displayed in a little pane on the left in case you forget what file you're playing with)



From here, Oscar natively supports case conversions, macros (handy if you're doing the same thing over and over, line for line), basic find replace and incrementing.  Not much, right -- but here's the real beauty of it -- you can copy and paste the file list into your favorite text editor, which is no doubt more powerful, and perform all the transformations/replacements you want on the files all in the comfort of your editor of choice.  When you're done, paste it back in to Oscar, save it, and vuala.

After using Oscar, I couldn't go back to the other query based method of file renaming -- this is just too comfortable. ;)

It could be good for PayPal fans -- if google puts together a great system, as I expect they will, PayPal may have to streamline their service a bit more and, who knows, take less off the top where transactions are concerned ;)

I'm really excited about this feature -- when GTalk first released, for some reason I expected it to automatically do this -- at least it's here, now.  I, for one, have always been a big fan of archiving communication indefinitely, chats included -- but since switching to gTalk exclusively had basically not been archiving chats -- this is cool.

All in all this is a stellar release -- I'm especially glad to see that they've taken care to make gmail work perfectly in it.  No use for the widgets, yet, but the bittorrent is worth giving a spin.

I, for one, am looking forward to it.  While PayPal gets the job done, I've always strongly felt that it only marginally lived up to its potential.  Kudos to them for being the ones to break first soil in online donations and direct person-to-person exchange of money . . . but I think a little competition, as is always the case, will be great for us, the consumers.  Here's to progress and price wars and the ever-expanding force that is google.  It's only a matter of time, their corporation will be an empire.

If you switch to, even if just for the reviews, dynamic pages -- store the reviews in a database or just as text -- generating printable pages would be a breeze.  An alternate way to do it would be to use another stylesheet.  Keeping the content separate from the design makes for much easier site overhauls in the longrun, though.

That said, I don't have a good example at the moment but I do have a "don't do this" example ;) -- lockergnome.com.  I've followed lockergnome since . . . well, long before he had html mail and have watched as, each year, the space for the articles gets smaller.  On a low resolution, I have trouble figuring out where in the sidebars, links and ads the article is hidden.

Not that this was somethign I was worried about happening :D Just sayin'

I, personally, am not fond of reviews being broken up -- usually because it's at the end of the article that I know I want to bookmark it for later.  I don't always remember to go back to page 1.   That's probably rather trivial, though.  And a printer-friendly all-on-one-page version would solve it.
